Thanks to our guide Arnulfo Montes Torres, who guided us during our 3-days hike in Corcovado, we spotted a lot of animals we otherwise would have missed. Great guide who knows a lot about the forest and the wildlife! He also advised us on safety precautions and jungle hiking practice.

Carlos Gonzalez is an amazing birding guide. We went on a 3 hour early morning walk today with him in Drake's Bay next to the Corcovado National Park on the Osa peninsula. We saw 20 toucans some very near, all 4 kinds of local trogans , the colorful scarlet macaws, a number of motmots, plus the rare turquoise cotinga.I can't list all of the birds... Carlos is knowledgeable with a superb eye for spotting birds. My birding friend loved the experience. I as a non-border also felt it was exceptional.

Started early by pick up by a old miserable car. Had a nice riding tour and than trekking for nine hours to Sirena. Not much wildlife and a guide with an English hard to catch. We were asked to carry part of our meals Sleep over in dormitory. 2nd day trekking mostly along the beach. Saw some wildlife monkey tapir and scotie We’re picked up after a day walk by the same car. PRICE $450 pp.Is a RIP OFF!!

If you are visiting the Osa Peninsula and are looking for a great wildlife and nature guide too show you Corcovado, Cabo Matapolo or anywhere in the Osa, Cristihan is a wonderful guide. He grew up in the Osa Peninsula and knows it like the back of his hand. He is punctual, hard working, speaks fluent English and you can feel completely safe and at ease while he takes pride in showing you the best that his beautiful country can offer. My husband and I had the pleasure to have his company and his guiding expertise for 2 days over the Christmas holidays around Carate and Cabo Matapalo. Cristhian is a wonderful birder and found us trees with up to a dozen scarlet macaws at a time. At certain times of the year there are even more! He brought along a spotting scope and attached our cell phones so that we would have great pictures. He found us all kinds of hawks, eagles, vultures, owls, yellow headed caracaras, tanager, trogons, lizards etc. He found us the elusive sloth and led us on a beautiful riverine trail with magnificent foliage up to a waterfall that we could swim in. Cristhian even pointed out to us the much feared Fer de Lance snake…but we felt completely safe with him at all times. Cristhian will work with you to take you to see whatever you want and will work with you within your budget. We were staying in Carate and did not have a car rental. We dreamed of going to Matapalo. With his contacts he magically found us a car and driver for the day. Of course we had to pay, but it is considerably cheaper and more convenient than renting a car and we had the added bonus of a great driver who waited patiently for us before taking us to our next destination. Priceless. Cristhian also runs a hostel in Puerto Jimenez called Corcovado Wild Hostel. While we did not stay there, if you are on a tight budget and can rough it a bit, you will find a friendly, clean place with a fantastic guide. Costa Rica is a beautiful but expensive country and it is not easy to find budget accommodation that is safe, well located and affordable. While the hostel is a hostel, you cannot expect the service or facilities of the Four Seasons Hotel, but I can assure you that the guiding by Cristhian is five stars. You can contact him by email at c_almengor@hotmail.com The phone number at the hostel is +50689776128 If you found this review helpful, please vote helpful.
