My wife, our friend Sophia and I went on a sunrise birding "journey" with JC in Tambor. This Is not a job for him, he obviously loves birds and nature and is eager to share his vast knowledge. We saw many birds and added some to our Life List. We have been on guided bird tours elsewhere in Costa Rica and in other countries and I have to say that JC's is the best we experienced. We highly recommend.

JC surpassed expectations, he was friendly and knowledgable and knew all of the best spots to go for birds. You can immediately tell he truly loves nature and birding, and while I was already excited about the trip his own enthusiasm made the experience so much fun! He's also got the ability to tell you where to look when you're trying to see the birds he's just spotted - sounds like an easy thing to do but you've gotta describe the path to the bird in a very clear way quickly or they'll fly off before you've had a chance to see them, something I've learned the hard way on other birding expeditions. He also sent me a complete list of everything we spotted, and how many, at the end of the day which was really helpful for me so I didn't have to rely on my own spotty memory to look up the birds online later on. Fantastic guy, and a brilliant tour!

I booked a tour for a friend of mine who was staying with me in Mal Pais. I couldn't go on the tour because of a hurt knee but when she came back from the half-day tour she was thrilled! Said they saw about 40 different birds and JC told her all about all of them. The booking/reservation was very easy and he got back to me really quickly (I contacted him via WhatsApp). From what I understand, there are two times to go to see the most birds: dawn and dusk. The dawn tour begins around 5:30 am, just as the sun is rising. JC arranged for transportation -- the 5:30am pick up was right on time. If you want to see some hardcore bird action, JC's your guy!

I had a wonderful bird trip with JC. I’m an experienced birder and really appreciated JC’s expertise in identification, enthusiasm and knowing the good areas to bird. I added several lifers to my list. It was a great trip!

This was an amazing experience. Firstly, JC is a very friendly, extremely passionate about his job, and has an immense wealth of knowledge regarding nature. We booked a 2 hour nature hike in Cabo Blanco National Reserve through our hotel. JC was punctual, and picked us up from our hotel. In route, he shared the history of the area, pointed out various sites, and answered many questions. He also took the time to pull over and show us various different animals or vegetation that was in route where he would share his knowledge, take pictures, and help us see various animals or get pictures with them. He also would suggest and allowed us to stop at local spots to get a really authentic feel for the culture. We stopped at a local bakery, a local family owned business to get lunch, and a local vendor that makes amazing fresh pressed organic coconut oil by hand. He had top of the line equipment for us to use (thick heavy binoculars that we could wear harnessed around our shoulders, this awesome tripod for bird watching). He helped us navigate the reserve with ease, stopping to take pictures, show us the vegetation, insects, birds, animals, and explain history. Again, he is immensely knowledgable and passionate about nature and it shows. He also can expertly make a variety of bird and monkey calls that help attract these animals for better viewing. The whole experience was magical and one of the best and most rewarding things I've ever done on a vacation. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone go on a tour with JC. So in summary: it was beyond a hike. It was a hike mixed with bird watching, a botany and biology course, immersion in the local culture, history course, with fun stops along the way. It lasted more than 2 hours which was fine because we were having so much fun and he was putting so much into making this a memorable experience for my husband and I.
