Well, we didn't saw it. while we got there. It is private territory and that made entrance of $20 just for path to the waterfalls. As many national parks in costa Rica cost less than that we were quite dissapointed. There are also amount of waterfalls in Costa Rica you can see for free or much less. So, we decided not to go

Yep it’s a tall waterfall. Is it spectacular? Meh. $20 for a hike is ridiculous, and then there is the trail. Most of it is on a steep, undulating red clay road, what that means is that you are constantly going up and down steep slopes. If it’s the rainy season, it would be really slick, but would otherwise be passable in a 4x4. You should also know that you are literally hiking downstairs approx 500 feet once you get to the turn for the water fall vs the pools. I generally found the information on the trail limited. There is at least one other entry point, not as far up the road (we did not go via that trail head, we went to the higher one, which may be longer/steeper). Total distance according to my iWatch, 4.15 miles and we did not go to the pool, just the fall. Total elevation gain 1250 feet.

20$ per person but worth it! Pretty decent hike! Definitely need good shoes and take the walking sticks they offer. I wouldn’t take my young kids but my teens could do it! It’s totally worth the view and up close view of the waterfall. Bring water and a snack to take a break before you head back up. It was pretty shaded and not to hot but we we started around 8 am and finished up around 11.

This was my 5th time hiking to this fabulous waterfall. Previously I had hiked with friends, husband, adult children, etc. However, on this occasion I hiked with another female friend. We enjoyed the hike, loved the waterfall. We brought plenty of water and a lunch. While enjoying our lunch and everything about this incredible waterfall we were approached by a man that was extremely intimidating and made us very uncomfortable. On this day we found ourselves alone because there were not many other visitors. Our hike back was extremely unnerving and we felt we were in danger. The waterfall is amazing the hike is awesome if you are in great physical shape, however, be aware that this is hike that would be better to be accompanied by a guide and/or male companions because there is no access to alert anyone if an urgent situation should arise.

This was such a great way to start the day. The tour only took a few hours, but we got to go to a lookout point before diving deep into the rainforest to see the waterfalls. The road down to the falls is a bit scary if you're not used to doing treks like this in Central America - 16 passenger van driving down what feels like an 80degree angle at some points! But it's worth it (and we were all fine). The woman who sold us the tour did not tell us to bring water shoes - if you have them, bring them! I did it barefoot but I've done a trek like that before and it was fine. The guide was worried about it though. Three of us didn't have shoes. He stopped us at almost every waterfall and had great creative pictures to take. My biggest problem was I lose circulation when I get cold, and my fingers and toes got super cold during this time. I don't know if the water temps change throughout the year, but the trees block the sun here so be prepared for that! Otherwise it was fantastic! And the pineapple at the end was delicious and well deserved!!

Beautiful surroundings along the way and loved the waterfall itself; a must see for any hiker who is vacationing in the area. However, as a novice, I definitely struggled on some parts along the way so I would not recommend going unless a fairly seasoned hiker. Also, for personal safety, be aware of your surroundings as the track/trail to the waterfall is on the off beaten-track. Although rare, we (my group) were told of single individuals who were robbed. In summary, best if traveled in a group as I did.

My boyfriend and I found this hike on TripAdvisor and we are REALLY glad we did. The start of the hike was not hard to find, and there's a little section for parking (we got there at 8am, but not sure how filled it gets later on in the day). The guy that owns the land was waiting there for us where we paid $20USD each and grabbed some walking sticks he had (definitely get those...).
I believe my boyfriend and I were the first on the trail that morning, which was great because within the first few minutes we had seen about a dozen little dart frogs, lizards, butterflies, birds, and even a small snake!
The trek down to the waterfall basin was not as easy as expected going downhill... Especially if you are not used to the heat. Luckily the trail was gorgeous and well marked so we had no problem getting to where we needed to. We got to the waterfall after about 40 minutes, which was what the man told us it would take.
After wondering around the basin we walked back towards the two river pools (which were labeled) and climbed around the big rocks/tree stumps. The water is calm/deep enough there to swim (we did not, though). Finally we made our way back up, which is pretty much what we expected - HARD.
My boyfriend and I are in pretty good shape, and would have had no problem with the hike had it not been for the heat/humidity. I am really glad we did this hike mid-way through our trip when we had gotten a little bit acclimated to the weather. Nonetheless, we still managed to get back up in a reasonable time. The whole round trip took about three hours (that includes several stops on the return hike and messing around the pools).
We both really enjoyed this hike. Getting up to the top feels like victory and was totally worth every penny. I would highly recommend this hike to anyone in reasonable shape. I probably would not bring kids/elderly... and I would bring LOTS of water (and snacks).
Also- DEFINITELY bring hiking shoes. Some people showed up in flip-flops/sandals. No idea how that went for them...probably badly.

This hike is not for the weak. I do every year and the experience is always great. Make sure to carry water and good water proof hiking shoes. I just love swiming at the different pools and standing infront of the water fall is a must the power received and the feeling has no explenations. If you are not a hiker you can go to pura vida gardens an imagen how cool it could be to feel the waterfall. I go to Costa Rica to have experiences like this,

This was a moderately difficult hike but well worth the climb. I did this hike with my fabulous surf camp (Tortuga) who introduced me to the gentleman that paved this trail with his father. While it was a wonderful hike a few things should be noted:
1) It is not really for children or elderly who cannot do strenuous exercise
2) A lot of rain had come in the past couple of days and caused some rocks to fall from the top to halfway down the waterfall which was a very scary/thrilling situation you don't want to be in.
3)Make sure you don't go alone and better yet, have a guide because they are also aware of crocodile sightings and warnings in the water pools below!

We will be staying in Jaco next week and are very interested in doing this hike, but are a bit concerned about safety - in regards to rain, mosquitos, and if there are any other dangers. Is Costa Rica similar to Florida and Panama, where you know it is going to rain every afternoon and you just have to do your activity early ... or is it more unpredictable? All the weather apps just show rain every day. Also, how are the mosquitos in July ... is it safe to just wear regular shorts and t-shirts if you have mosquito repellant on? Besides taking water and snacks, any there other safety aspects to consider? Thanks in advance for any tips you may have!

We were there a few days ago. We were wearing shorts and mosquito repellant and and it was fine. I would try to go early in the morning primarily because it gets quite hot towards noon. If it rains it can get slippery and hence more difficult in the steep parts. But it is mainly close to the waterfall where it is steeper. We have been here over two weeks and so far we have had rain in the morning only once. Enjoy your holiday!

Perros son permitidos? Mi perrita es pequena/mediana en tamano y la tendriamos en correa. Are dogs allowed? She is small/medium sized and very well behaved. She also walks on a leash. Thanks, we want to go and bring her with us if possible!

I really don't know but a good guess 800 feet since that is the drop of the water fall. It is worth the hike
