Contrary to some negative press, Playa Jacó is an excellent option for families & romantics who wish to see a vast part of Costa Rica. From Jacó, one can take incredible day trips and over nighters to see very diverse regions and cultures of the country. Jacó has a vibrant community replete with families, athletes & nature lovers alike. Amongst... More

If you like "USA" type busy dirty beach towns, this is the place for you. Busy. Crowded. Dirty. Unsafe at night. Skip it and head on down to Manuel Antonio.

Don't leave even a single flip flop on the ground or it will be stolen. Other than that, we loved our 3 visits to Jaco beach. The southern point is ideal beginner surfer conditions, especially from 3-6(though perhaps that changes with the time of year, we were there in August). We love watching the surf competition! Super fun

Jaco is a nice beach, its big, its very close (1 - 1.5 hours) from the city, but being that close is the first place to get crowded. It has a big selection of hotels, restaurants and night life, you will have fun. Not for people who want to get away from the city and relax as Jaco is similar... More

We just returned from a trip to Joca, Costa Rica with our two teenagers and we all had a great time. The beach itself is very nice and the waves can be rather large so be careful of rip currents when swimming and surfing. The town itself is just now starting to be developed following a devastating collapse of the... More

Hot dark sand and pebbles; some waves; not much of a beach front - no idea why Jaco beach is supposed to be a good option. Parking a fiddle (main road best option) and few restaurants near beach - those that are are still quite far back. If you're nearby then take a look but otherwise not much to get... More

Spent an afternoon and evening in Jaco. The surfing looked phenomenal. The beach however was littered with too many stray dogs, sketchy looking folk and a lot of police which raised the question "why so many police?" If you're into surfing go there. If not, don't. There are way too many other better options if you are looking for a... More

Been here three times. South end of beach is great for newer to advanced surfers. Middle and North end a bit stronger waves. Whole beach great for body boarding. Plenty of board rentals and surf instruction right on the beach. All 3 times I've been here we've parked right mercy to the beach, close enough to leave our towels and... More

Jaco beach is great because it's so close to restaurants, bars and shops. It's very clean ,not crowded , but the two days we were there the waves were very rough and nonstop. They are having a surfing competition there so it's the perfect beach for that but to just relax and swim , you need to go elsewhere.

Jaco beach is a cool little funky beach. If I'd have known about this place when I was in my 20's, I probably would've ended up living here. Now that I'm in my 40's with a family, it wouldn't be my first choice. We like to come here because there is a lot to do as far as restaurants and... More
