The beach itself it fine - redish-brown sand that is hard from the volcanic rock that makes up the sand. If you're looking for white sand beaches & super clear water, this isn't the beach. But I can enjoy a warm beach wherever I'm at.

The main strip area, however, is just gross. It's dirty, there were presumably homeless people that were constantly hounding us for money & at one point my 2 friends & I were being followed (3 middle aged women). Prostitution is legal in CR & it was overly obvious on the main street through town. At one point we saw a man carrying sex toys openly on the street & giving them to women as they walked toward the known "brothel" in town. Just not something we were used to seeing.

We went down to Manuel Antonio one day & I would much rather have stayed there - the area was cleaner, the beaches are soft white sand & the water is much clearer. It was just a much nicer area all around.

So will I come back to CR? Absolutely. But Jaco will not be on my list of places to back to.

Jaco Beach is very nice for walking and enjoying the sounds of the beach, but not swimmable while we were there. We experienced beautiful sunsets from the beach.

A wide black sand and pebble beach. Chair/umbrella rentals, along with surf lessons. The day we were there had one meter waves with a good break.

Bus service from Jaco back to San Jose...... whilst the bus ride itself was fine both ways, the simple request to go on the 9am rather 11am bus was met with "no puedes"... you can't, even tho the 50 seat bus was 70% empty. This despite having gone online and and made the necessary change. After much consternation it turns out there was a way....all I needed to do was buy another fare....in cash.....payable to them. I don't wanna get wanna get a rant here but I suspect those Colones were destined for the drivers pocket rather than the Company coffers. #transportesjacoruta665

WOW! Just where do you travelers come from and leave these inaccurate reviews of Jaco Beach? No, this area is not super hot and humid, I live here and never seen it over 90 degrees at any time of year and the humidity is average, I relocated from the Gulf of Mexico (Mississippi/Louisiana) where 95-107 degrees is common in July and August with humidity so high you can't breath. As far as black sand goes just where did you spot this 'Black' sand? The sand here is Coco and dark cream colored and and never what some would consider un walk able. And where are you seeing all these extremely rocky beaches at? Not true at all, our beaches here are smooth sand all along the beach area but the north beach does collect some egg sized pebbles at the high tide line (maybe 5 feet of pebbles) then sand to the waves at low tide and there is 100 feet or more of solid sand with no rocks to be seen! There are PLENTY of RIP CURRENT signs every where but unfortunately the few guard stations are usually un manned be cause Costa Rica as yet does NOT spend any of the Billions in taxes collected on offering the tourists good safe life guarded swimming areas (A real negative if there is one) I can understand that some traveler that has never seen an ocean or a beach before my have no other beach to make a comparison to but yet that tourist may feel compelled to spout off a lot of UNTRUE opinions such as I have noted above. The rest is all common sense, keep valuables out of site on beach or left in your auto, don't go off with strangers looking to buy drugs and don't be rude or act like the ugly tourist for you just might get treated as one! Have you been to the United States if America lately, I feel 100 times safer in Jaco than any blue state big city in America and that is a fact!! All Ya'll come on down and see for yourself, leaving the States 6 years ago and moving to the Pacific in Costa Rica was the smartest thing I ever did :)

More like a spring break location for American teenagers below 21. Cheap hotels, cheap food and the condos by the ocean surely dont make it look more attractive. Costa Rica has so much more to offer than Jaco...

My family and I have visited Costa Rica on several occasions. Every time we visit Jaco we use Pikotravel to assist us with our activities. Piko held true to the excellent service they provide with this tour! We hiked, zip lined, rappelled, and swam. After all of that, we enjoyed an excellent lunch at a local soda. If you are traveling to Costa Rica anytime soon, I highly recommend using Pikotravel to assist you in planning your tours! They take great care of their clients!

This might be my least favorite beach I’ve ever been to in the entire world. There is a river that empties onto the beach and drains mud onto one side of the beach. The beach is extremely rocky and the waves are extremely rough and strong, to the point that you cannot even go into the water past your legs. It is very noisy beach with people playing loud music and smoking and limited parking. If you are into surfing this might be a good beach, but otherwise I would not recommend it at all. It feels dirty.

We booked a trip with JacoVIP with a group of 14. We stayed at Villa Los Amigos. Check-in was VERY easy and our concierge was named Pablo. He was amazing and knew the ins and outs of Jaco. The chef's and housekeeping came to the house on time everyday. They wore mask and gloves to be Covid friendly. At any time of day, Pablo was there to help with ANYTHING we needed whether it was to take one of us to the ER or to bring ice cream in the middle of the night. The house was AMAZING! I definitely give 10/10

Technically the beaches were still supposed to close at 6pm, but no one seemed to enforce that thankfully.
