A cool little place off the beaten path. It's a small little eco-sanctuary with a wide variety of native fauna. They have little displays with many different amphibians you won't see in the wild. They have several varieties of frogs, including some of the poisonous ones. The guide was extremely informative. Little did I know that the frog venom depends... More

This is a wildlife sanctuary (aka “mini zoo”) which we made an impromptu visit and learned a few things. Neo Fauna is about a kilometer away from the Hotel Pumilio we were staying at. We took a taxi there from Jaco town having finished some other activities and it was around 4,500 CRC, and we walked back to our hotel... More

As we drove along the narrow, winding, dirt road to reach this location we wondered, "What are we getting our kids (ages 13 and 6) into?" Had it not been for the comments we read on TripAdvisor we would have turned around thinking it was a scam. When we finally reached Neo Fauno we noticed it was very primitive, to... More

This family owned butterfly/animal rescue business is very interesting. Our guide was well informed. It was easy to see that he took pride in what his family contributes to the welfare of there charges. We were there the morning after a horrific storm that had caused some new butterflies to not survive. He was very sad.

I hate zoos but this place has a nice mission to help animals return to the wild (mostly). Guide was great and clearly loved the animals and his job. Great place to see different frogs you are unlikely to see without serious exploring as well as snakes you don't want to encounter in the wild. Awesome butterfly farm. Steep price... More

Andre gave a great tour. Really learned a lot about butterflies, snakes, and frogs up close. We got rained out on the butterfly part of the tour and came back the next day to finish. Learned that butterflies and rain don't mix. Great tour for young and old.

Neo Fauna is a very small amphibian rescue and butterfly reproductive project. The operators are well-educated, passionate, and knowledgable. It was smaller than expected but no less interesting. Our guide made sure we knew exactly what the tour consisted off BEFORE we paid our admission and was very fair and honest. The butterfly enclosure was fabulous! We enjoyed our guide... More
