About
Caribe Shuttle is a semi-private transportation service that started in 2008 as a shuttle service on the Southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, with one route between Puerto Viejo and Bocas del Toro in Panama. As of December 15th, 2015 this service will be running 3 times per day, 6 AM, 8 AM and then again at 12 PM. We have also expanded our routes to cover a range of destinations in Costa Rica including San Jose, la Fortuna, Tortuguero, and most recently to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua! In our commitment to provide our customers with the best experience possible, we are in the process of fitting all our vehicles with onboard WIFI. At this time while most vans have free WIFI for your use, there will be some without. We also specialize in private transfers, making it easy for you to get around quickly, conveniently and comfortably when ever and however you like. We offer tours and packages as well for many destinations in Costa Rica and Panama. Organizing both your transport and your tours quickly and conveniently online makes it much easier for you to plan your stay in Costa Rica and then enjoy your time while you are here.

The shuttle is picking up folks from _*near*_ SJO and since airports now do not allow vehicles to wait at the airport as well as they most likely would charge the shuttle company a relatively high price for each person/pickup they have decided to wait, stage and pickup in the nearby Denny's restaurant. So that most certainly is one of the things that is important for one to know if they are expecting a curb pickup and at the same time have a low transportation price for a nearly 4-7 hour trip to Puerto Viejo area.
Make sure to keep in touch via WhatsApp using the number provided on Caribe Shuttle's website. Keep the delay and flight schedule changes synchronized with the driver and company as needed.
I would say the $30 that I paid for the ticket were the best spent for the entire transportation pipeline.
Marco, the driver, was amazing in taking me 0.5 miles off the main road to my new residence. The alternative of dragging 2 suitcases up the hill is not very pleasant, so I decided to provide him a $12 tip, which was greatly appreciated after the long drive. Keep in mind that usually the drop offs are happening on the main road and not all side roads would be ok for the shuttle to go to.
To note the obvious, during a pandemic time everyone is required to wear mask at all times in or around the shuttle. Marco was happy to spray my hands and the luggage handles with disinfectant prior to boarding.
BTW a cab offered me to get me from SJO to Puerto Viejo for $200.
If you are to get the official bus, it is far away from the airport (Alajuella) in San Jose, that would require you to take a taxi, which is more expensive than the shuttle itself ~ $80.

We hired Caribe shuttle to take us from Puerto Viejo to Bocas de Toro in Panama. I knew the boarder crossing would be complicated without a guide and Caribe shuttle set us up for success. They sent emails in advance detailing everything we would need and our guide Kevin kept everything running smoothly. From pick up to drop off, the shuttle was on time. The shuttle was clean and comfortable and the WiFi was really helpful. When it started pouring rain while we crossed the boarder (everyone has to walk across the bridge), Kevin handed out plastic bags for our luggage and to keep us dry. All of our needs were anticipated….. all of this for a very reasonable price. A day after our Caribe shuttle return from Bocas de toro back into Costa Rica we realized that we had left something behind, Kevin and the whole Caribe Shuttle team pulled together to help return it to us. For great customer service and worry free border crossings, I really recommend Caribe Shuttle!

We would like to thank Kevin who assisted us on our journey from Bocas to Cahuita on 16 January. We could not have done it without him! There was confusion on our part as far as the health pass( ours had expired). He helped us with the new ones and all along was very patient and kind. The weather was extremely hot and the lines were long at the Panama- Costa Rica border. He explained everything to all passengers on the bus and was a first rate communicator. He unloaded luggage like clock work. Caribe Shuttle is fortunate to have Kevin as an employee.

We did the SJO - Puerto Viejo route both ways with them. Both directions we had the same minibus, which was a bit outdated and broken here and there. Wifi on board sounds like something you would appreciate but it was not working most of the time, no real added value there. From the capital to the Caribbean coast (early morning drive), the driver was very professional in all aspects (driving, communication with the passengers, schedule etc.), the only thing I would suggest a second stop around Limon, otherwise job well done. For the ride on the way back (afternoon shuttle), I cannot say the same. I think we were all frustrated by the delays (road works, accidents, Friday traffic) and this resulted in some speedy driving in heavy traffic with poor visibility in the mountains.

I originally contacted Caribe Shuttles when I planned a trip with my wife.

They had a chat function that seemed to be pretty convenient because you can directly speak with a representative. I started booking my trip the day before through that representative.

I sent my flight information over, the time I land, airline etc.

I let him/her know when I was on the plane and when we landed. I even discussed payment and was told cash works great. So had the cash ready to pay.

Once I got out and let him/her know we were outside of the baggage claim ready to go, I find out that they have an issue with their drivers and they don't have anyone to give me a ride.

I ended up just using another shuttle service.

They apologized and requested I don't review them and that my next trip would be free. Maybe they offered that expecting me not to return but I did in fact come back to Cancun less than two years later.

Booked the shuttle, showed the screenshots of my conversation with the last representative. my friends and I get on the shuttle only to wait for an hour in the shuttle while the driver speaks to the customer service agent. The agent decides they don't want to follow through with that offer and not only do they charge us they charge us full price and tell us to get off the bus otherwise. They tried to pretend like it was another company even though the conversation is saved along with all the company information on whatsapp. I sent screenshots and screen recordings along with all the flight info etc I had saved there.

Driver was nice, the service is unreliable and straight up disrespectful. Theres a ton of other shuttles in Cancun, I'd stay away from this one.

I read all the reviews and decided to go with this company for comfort and availability. We took a shuttle from San Jose to Puerto Viejo and were crammed in tight and there was 1 bathroom stop for a 5.5 hour trip. I only thought this one was uncomfortable. We had already booked a trip to Bocas del Toro and since all in all the first shuttle wasn't miserable or anything, we just decided to keep the second trip. I truly wish we had just taken the public bus (very comfortable and cheap in this area). They literally ADDED SEATS IN THE AISLE to pack this thing to full capacity. Honestly, I can even imagine this is legal as if we were in a wreck or had a fire the back half of the bus would be dead.

Clear guidelines on how to navigate the process on the Panama/Costa Rica border in Sixoala. The guide Kevin was thorough and did not tire to repeat the same information more than once to each passenger. His level of clarity, knowledge, patience, and professionalism were immense and made the process a breeze for expatriates with limited Spanish.

We took a shuttle from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca to La Fortuna yesterday. It is a 5 hour journey and we were prepared for some discomfort but it turned out to be a smooth ride in a spacious minibus with air conditioning and only us on board.

The traffic was slow on the Limón - San José highway due to road construction works but there were no jams. The driver was professional and also provided lots of information about places we drove by as well as general cultural insights. We enjoyed the trp very much and highly recommend considering a shuttle bus for a trip like this.

Traveled from La Fortuna to Monteverde. We were very skeptical of this shuttle because of the lack of info and some questionable reviews, but it turned out great! It started off with an hour long bus ride to the bottom of Lake Arenal. From there, we took a boat across the lake, which was an extremely serene ride with great views all around. Then, we took another hour long bus ride which had amazing views and dropped us off at our hotel in Monteverde. Very convenient and a great way to get between the two cities!

I waited for confirmation on my reservation I had already been charged for until the morning of. When the last email I received from Caribe said my reservation was pending, I contacted their WhatsApp. They told me all of their shuttles were full and offered a refund that I won’t have access to for a few days, at least. I am no struggling to find same day transportation. Very unreliable, I wish they would have just notified me and processed a refund with at least half a days notice…before I reached out concerned.
