The beach at Puerto Viejo is definitely not the best in the area, if you're around, I would avice you either go to Playa Chiquita or Punta Uva Beach. Puerto Viejo is a nice little town, but the beach in itself is small and uninteresting.

We were 200 meters from the playa niegra beach part of the Puerto Viejo beach and in early January they have some big waves. The sand where we were was black. The beach was clean except the part that is situated alongside the road. They...More

Nice sand beach area and not too crowded. Water was clear with good surfing waves in the bay. Very rocky near the shore so not great for swimming.

The beaches along the Caribbean side are all amazing! So many to choose from. The water was warm and the sand perfect!

Beautiful waves, lots of shops on the street, and wide sandy beach, what more can you ask for. Perfect Caribbean destination, lots of activities.

This beach was more secluded than some other beaches but still crowded and average waters. Definitely should still check out though!

Puerto Viejo has a special place in my heart. I spent over three months there and, despite the unusually cold and wet weather, l loved it. From the village, you can head to the many beaches such as Punta Uva and Manzanillo, either walking or...More

Its a nice beach, but you're better off to bike just down South to Playa Coccles, Playa Punta Uva or Playa Grande. They are nicer for swimming.

My suggestion is to stay in Puerto Viejo, since Manzanillo is about 20 minutes driving from there and you can easily move up and down the coast. I suggest you to book a guide as well, because Manzanillo park is not that easy... More
