This was our gem of a find! We don’t recall this being there in our previous trips.

We had spent the morning on a tour with some lovely folks from the UK who were also staying at the same guesthouse as us. When we were finished, we told them we had not eaten breakfast yet, needed a coffee at least and suggested we do this together. They suggested Caribbeans, having been there previously.

It is a really cute place. You can do a “chocolate tour” through them if you so desire. They have a climate-controlled room with a variety of expensive chocolates you can purchase (and we did) and they have a coffee shop that serves up amazing coffee and we each had an omelette and banana/chocolate muffin as well. The omelettes were amazing, delicious and filling. The muffins were a very special treat. The combination of the fresh banana and hand made chocolate is indescribable and the best I’ve ever eaten. Equally, the coffee was full bodied, aromatic and “good to the last drop”! We sat in the open second floor to enjoy the breeze and the view.

The owner makes his way through both levels chatting with the patrons to ensure we are enjoying the offerings we’ve chosen and that we’re enjoying our time in Costa Rica. The fellow who is behind the counter taking orders on the main level is delightful, a little shy but once you get him chatting he is wonderful. He was great at helping us understand the differences in the chocolate … they all list percentages of cacao in them and it’s not always easy to understand what that means when it comes to taste. He cleared that up in no time while we spent US$40 on four bars of chocolate … large bars of course … some of which are gifts.

We liked this place so much that we went back for breakfast on New Year’s Day. Sadly, it was closed so we missed out on a second visit. That said, we highly recommend this place.

The Caribeans chocolate tour was one of our best experiences during a fantastic Costa Rica trip. The guide Dexter was extremely knowledgeable about the chocolate-making process as well as local plants and animals. He was kind, patient, and personable. We got to sample dozens of delicious chocolates and received a discount on purchases in the cafe--we came home with chocolate presents for friends and family. Highly recommend!

Such delicious and smooth chocolate!! Their vegan and gluten free options are legit and so yummy! I had their vegan chocolate chip and banana bread muffin and I would come back for that alone - the other vegan options sounded amazing and the next time I’m in town, I’ll be by to try them out!! The young lady behind the counter was so friendly and patient with us as we figured out colones (haha) and she did everything with a smile! The entire staff really did - welcoming, funny, and just such good vibes. The upstairs cafe area was also so peaceful and would be great for working remotely, reading a book, or just enjoying a coffee with ocean views. Everything is sustainable and ethically sourced which just solidifies the goodness in the hearts of the people who own and operate this place!

We walked up on a Saturday at about 9:45 and took the tour. Our guide Oscar was immensely knowledgable and just plain old a lot of fun to spend time with. It's a easy hike up the hill to their production facility, where he walked us through all the steps of making chocolate in the artisanal, small batch way. We tasted the beans at every stage, and then had a number of different chocolates to compare at the end. I'd go again if I could.

The tour truly delivers on its promise to show the entire chocolate making process "from bean to bar." The entire experience lasts about 3 hours, which we felt was the perfect timing to absorb all of the information without feeling rushed. Andreas, our guide, was absolutely amazing. She is starting a cacao plantation of her own in the area, so she clearly has a lot of expert knowledge on the topic, which she shares with the perfect dose of humour and enthusiasm. The tour itself is great, but Andreas made it pitch-perfect! The chocolate tasting is very well set up. After doing some research on different chocolate tours in the area, this is the one we decided on and we are happy we did!

Our guide took us through the entire process of making chocolate from selecting the right cacao pods to tempering.

Our tour started in the jungle and a mini nature tour. We walked to the facility at the top of the farm and got to understand each step on the process and taste everything along the way - from the raw cocoa bean to the roasted bean to the finished product; and we got to sample many varieties of their chocolate.

Our guide was knowledgeable and open to all questions and spoke both in English and Spanish.

Excellent coffee drinks as well as chocolate drinks, both hot and cold. Sipping chocolate, cocoa. Chocolate tasting was fantastic. We also did their chocolate tour with guide Dexter. Beautiful hike, saw the process of producing chocolate by hand. Then an incredible chocolate tasting at the end. Their chocolate is phenomenal. We ended up buying 15 bars to bring home

A great way to spend a few hours hiking up to see how chocolate is grown, harvested, treated and made. They do it all! Our guide was entertaining even pointing out many animals along the way. We got to taste test various chocolates, drink a favorite that Montezuma used to fancy (minus the blood) and take home some chocolate from the store at the end. The views were spectacular and the price was just right! WAY better than Hershey's!

This tour was extremely enjoyable and so informative! Our tour guide, Danielle was wonderful, showing us all the amazing wildlife and flora on the short hike up to the chocolate factory. We learned so much, not just about the chocolate making process, but about the area in general and the importance of making sustainability an integral part of the process. Really highly rated, a must do with Danielle if you are in the area and the chocolate was delicious!

Very cool tour from a very knowledgeable guide, Andrea, who has skin in the game! Co-owner and restorer of former cacao plantation in process of changing the cacao game in Costa Rica. I had no idea terroir also made a huge difference in chocolate as well as wine. Fascinating and as good as, if not better, than anything else in the area...and no false advertising. Don't leave the area without making a visit and taking the tour!
