I had the most wonderful and fun filled time surfing for seven sessions (spread over 10 days) with Surf the Jungle and learned so much. I had surfed before and was looking to advance my skill level by identifying and paddling into my own waves more often, riding down the line and beginning to carve. I was able to improve more than I had hoped when I booked the seven session package.
Misael is an amazing instructor and selected the best times and best waves for my skill level. We talked about what I was trying to improve and he identified what I needed to focus on during each session. I am now surfing bigger, more challenging waves and have expanded my comfort zone. Couldn't ask for more, but I got more because Misael and the other instructors who work with him (Darshan and Douglas) are so much fun, extremely talented surfers and always there to help, offer encouragement and provide pointers. It was such a great experience and I can't wait to return.
I highly recommend Surf the Jungle whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced surfer because of how well run the school is and how dedicated Misael is to providing a rewarding experience. All equipment is provided if you don't have your own as is transportation from the school located in the centre of Puerto Viejo to the amazing surf spots.

We were in Puerto Viejo for a month and rented boards with Jungle Surf shop almost daily. Wide choice of boards of excellent quality. I was very happy to find the perfect board that fits me.
We also took a coaching session with Misael. He's a certified instructor and the coolest guy in town. No joke! With Misa, life is all about fun and laugh.
And let's not forget to compliment Patricia who takes care of the shop and welcomes the customers.
I highly recommend Jungle Surf for their professionalism, humility, good vibe and great flexibility.

Surf the Jungle is more than just a surf school or tour company, it's the people that make this truly special. Misael grew up in Puerto Viejo and gave us an authentic experience, told us about his childhood, took us to the best waterfall spots that he remembers as a kid. You can't find this kind of stuff anywhere, it was unique because it was personal.
We started with a surf lesson, which I was convinced I would be terrible at but Misael is a renowned surfer and gave us the skills and encouragement to get better. Tbh I thought I would hate it but I LOVED it. Given our wonderful experience, we went back for a kayaking and SUP paddle board tour on the river, Misael picked a cacao for us to try, we also went for a short hike and he climbed a coconut tree and showed us 2 different ways to open the coconut. We were also accompanied by Cindy & Polina who were filming the whole experience and were a great addition to the group, very warm and friendly and made it feel like we were on a trip with friends as opposed to on a tour.
I can't recommend this place enough, and I feel bad for anyone who misses out on this extremely valuable gem that is in Puerto Viejo. We will be back to see our friends for sure :)

We were bloody beginners and so we needed a patient and experienced guide. With Misael we had the perfect match! He is funny and explained everything. He gave us just the one right hint to improve our skills and we got to stand (and keep standing) on our third attempt. On day 3 we catched a 4 foot wave, what fun!
At the end of an exhausting morning we even learned how to open a coconut just with a stone. It was so delicious after swallowing all the salt water 😁.
We highly recommend surflessons with Surf the Jungle!

After 2 months of learning to surf on the Pacific coast, I decided to spend my last 3 weeks on the Caribbean coast in Puerto Viejo,
With an intermediate level, I wanted to continue to progress well, so I decided to take lessons with Surf the Jungle Surf School, what I can say is that I was not disappointed at all : I took lessons almost every day for those 3 weeks and on the days I didn't have lessons, I would rent boards from the school with some friends.
Everything was perfect. Misael, the instructor, beyond being an amazing teacher is also an incredible person. With him I saw my surfing level improve day by day. I was able to go to lots of different spots (Punta Uva, Cocles, Playa Grande, Cocles Island and Salsa Brava) and on some days I surfed the biggest waves I had ever taken, and that I surely would not have dared to take alone. But with Misa you feel safe, he chooses spots suited to your level and all you have to do is surpass yourself! We have only one hurry at the end of the lesson, to start again on the next day!
In addition, Patricia, who works in the surf shop is also extremely nice and you will always be well received !
In summary, great progress, incredible sensations and superb encounters, surfing with Jungle Surf School and Misael will undoubtedly make your already superb vacation in Puerto Viejo totally unforgettable!
The only downside is that the departure will be all the more difficult... But it's totally worth it, now I can't wait to come back!! 😉

I have taken a number of surf classes in many visits to Puerto Viejo. My lesson with Misael from Surf the Jungle was by far the best. After years of “trying” to surf, my lesson with Misael ended with me catching several green waves on my own! Definitely recommend. Pura Vida!

We are so grateful to Misael for teaching my partner & I surfing on Christmas Day. He was so patient, informative & positive. I would 100% recommend this yoga company as you’re guaranteed to have fun on the waves and learn. We both stood up & it was our first time surfing. Thank you so much!

We had to best time and very successful surfing lesson today with these instructors. They took care of me and my family as if it were their own and really encouraged us to learn. They paid close attention to my son and made him feel so safe and confident which allowed him to catch so many waves. We’ll be back for more lessons!

I have always wanted to try surfing and for my 40th birthday, I finally decided to take a lesson. Misael was an amazing instructor, clearly knowledgeable about the area, the conditions, body mechanics, and how to instill confidence in his students. After practicing the basics on the sand, we hit the waves. While athletic, I don't have the greatest balance, but I was able to get up over and over with Misael's guidance. By day 2, I was surfing Cocles on waves I didn't think I could do. He helped me catch waves that were within my abilities, safe, and challenging. I'd come back to Puerto Viejo just to take more lessons!

The staff was very helpful and was able to give me exactly what D needed at an intermediate level to improve. I felt safe in the water with Misael and a very fun, energetic lesson. They were attentive, supportive and especially dealt really well with my request.
