Hidden gem
Sep 2021 • Couples
The beauty of this place is breathtaking. As we drove on unpaved roads to reach this gem, it was amazing to see the community. After some time we arrive at the forest! Our guide Marco made our visit! His knowledge and fun personality made the journey fun. He had another guide from Tortuguero on this trip and together they pointed out different birds. We saw crabs, owls, frogs and snakes! Thank you Marco for an amazing experience.
Note:
You have to make reservations a day in advance, so they can have a guide meet you.

Must visit!!!
Nov 2020 • Family
This is a very impressive project which is incredibly interesting for families. Everybody is very kind, the food is delicious and the activities are amazing. We walked on various trails, took the very impressive gondola to the river, went to the waterfall. The instructors and biologists on site thought I was about snakes, frogs, butterflies, bats, etc. it was a very interesting experience for the whole family. They original canopy tour is a must, very safe and lots of fun! Highly recommended to all families, for all ages!

Not worth the time and money
Feb 2020
I took this tour from my cruise ship. The description said it would be 5 1/2 hours and "less than an hour away." It was an hour and a half each way, and after the first half hour, the road was horribly bumpy and the bus moved at a crawl. It was miserable, and on top of that the guide talked nonstop. We were with her going through the exhibits and the rain forest. Again, she talked nonstop.

One of the problems, and this couldn't be helped, is that the animals are most active early in the day. So by the time we got there, no monkeys,no sloths, no birds. In fact, the only wildlife we saw was a group of howler monkeys and one sloth, which we saw from the bus about 10 minutes from the port.

There are exhibits of reptiles and frogs. Interesting, but not worth the time we spent there--with the guide telling us the life history of EVERY frog. I wanted to get out and see the rain forest, not be stuck in a zoo. The butterfly house is nice, and we did spend an appropriate amount of time there. The tram ride is pleasant, if short, and then we finally had a brief walk around in the forest. Our opportunity to "meet the researchers" turned out to be a 5-minute talk on the rain forest's diversity.

I know we were helping to save the rain forest with the cost of the tour, but prices at the park were high. $4 for a 20 ounce bottle of water?

This tour was sold by Holland America as "Veragua Rainforest Eco-Adventure." If you see that in your tour listings, choose something else!

My tour did not include the zip line. The ship offered tours to another place that had a longer aerial tram ride, but they were farther away

Outstanding

We went as part of an excellent tour with Limon tours (Jorge). Although it is expensive we enjoyed every minute of it. Our guide was Freddie, that young man was so passionate and knowledgeable. Freddie made sure we saw as many animals as possible and we were so thankful for his hard work. Make sure you go, and also we recommend you look up our review of Limon tours. Jorge will make sure you have a great time in Puerto Limon.

Veragua Rainforest was a trip of a lifetime
Feb 2020
First of all, the weather was glorious. No one can control the weather, but we certainly had something phenomenal to deal with. Second, the entire experience was one I will never forget. It felt one-on-one and very special. It was well-organized on every level. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly, answering any questions we threw at them. And the fresh fruit they served the visitors was the tastiest I've had in years. Another bonus. We saw monkeys, sloths, frogs, snakes, butterflies and even an ant nearly two-inches long. If I can ever go back, I will!

This was an outstanding experience. It was an excursion offered by Holland America Cruise Lines (the Zuiderdam) The guides were very knowledgeable, the excursion was appropriately titled (Veragua Rainforest Eco-Adventure), and nature lovers will be in awe of the spectacular scenery and views. It was a wonderful educational experience.

Above the trees
Feb 2020 • Friends
We loved Veragua. It was educational and entertaining. We started out with at easy walk, seeing reptiles and amphibians in a contained natural environment. An area tram takes you from above the treetops down. It’s a very high tech swiss type ski tram. There are two hikes when you get to the bottom. One is flat and easy, about 15 minutes. It goes to the river. The other is listed as strenuous and goes to a waterfall that is lovely. It was less than a 10 minute walk there and is listed as strenuous just because there are steps up and down. We were so fortunate to get to listen to a couple of researchers talking about their research and conservation in the rainforest, which was awesome. Lunch was included in our tour, which was a nice convenience. Hearty and tasty. There is a nice gift shop and proceeds support the foundation and its conservation efforts. It was a trip highlight.

Great Flora and Fauna
Feb 2020
What a great University tie in to educate the world. Sloths, toucans, frogs, water falls and such a great variety of trees and flowering ground growth. Passionate guides take you safely through the public area of the park at a pace which you can see, find and locate so many things. It is a rainforest. Think you might be prepared with a rain slicker or other garments. Paths are well maintained. Some of the best pictures of monkeys, sloths and flowers we have experienced.

Like it says on the tin

The one thing we wanted to experience on the island was the rain forest so this was a no brainier. Even the drive in gives you a good look at the island, its nature and people.
The walk, either with steps or on the flat gives you a very good look at what the island has to offer. Be it snakes, spiders butterflies or bright coloured frogs. Be careful where you put your hands on the rails though as ants with very nasty bites also use them as a roadway!
The gondola which takes you through the trees is also special.
A nice restaurant and gift shop are also on site
