- Melissa SNew York City, New York45 contributionsCool to see but seriously overpricedThe park was nice but the cost just to get inside the park itself comes to $78 USD per person with tax. If you book a tour off a cruise ship this will be included in the price of the tour or you will be notified by your tour agency of the price of admission to the rain forest to pay on site. Either way, I thought it was waaaaaay overpriced. It’s about 2.5 hours where you go on a walking tour through a snake house with about 10-15 snake species, a frog house with some frogs and a butterfly house (which was the best IMO). It also includes a tram ride which takes about 10-15 each way and an optional hike. They tell you that a portion of the proceeds go to rainforest conservation which I am happy to support, but $78 is a rip off. There is an option to pay $106 USD on entry to go zip lining. I didn’t go zip lining so can not comment on that activity. I just left the park feeling like Costa Rica was ripping tourist off at their finest.Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 26, 2023
- Ontario76Sherwood Park, Canada1,101 contributionsGood guides to see what there was, but pretty tame.We were on a guided tour, so we had lots of guides to explain things, find things and generally take care of us as we walked and swung in the gondola. There are good displays to bring some of the timid wildlife into view (behind glass), and that's especially useful for the ones who come out at night. We walked some boardwalks, climbed some stairs to the waterfall and back and (with help) found some of the critters we had seen in the picture displays and terrariums. So pretty good, but I would like it a bit more on the wild side. This was in second growth forest and seemed just a bit too tame. Mind you, the big natural park is too far for a day trip like we were on.Visited February 2023Written March 15, 2023
- Jim SMount Dora, Florida119 contributionsGreat way to see rain forest but should provide more info on waterfall optionI took this tour as part of a cruise ship excursion. The park is well laid out and easy to get around. Our excursion description implied the walking was difficult but my wife could have gone on it if she knew how easy it was. They ask if you up front if you want to either see the waterfall or go on the nature walk at the bottom of the tram. They imply that you walk down to the waterfall using 360 steps?. I opted to take the nature walk which was flat only because I figured the waterfall would not be very impressive during the dry season. But I could have easily walked 10 minutes to the waterfall from the bottom of the tram. I decided not to since I didn't want to get separated from the guide. Perhaps a clear questioning of the guide as to exactly what the waterfall option entailed would have changed my mind. Got to see a few animals and many species of plants including a walking tree that moves itself on multiple roots. I am afraid of heights but the tram was smooth and you didn't get the impression of height due to the trees nearby and below. Kind of like a ski lift. The park also includes an exhibit of caged snakes, frogs and a great butterfly area.Visited March 2023Written March 19, 2023

First, we signed up for the "easy" excursion. However, there were a lot more stairs and walking up and down some fairly steep paved walkways than advertised. And we visited during the rainy season. We scheduled our tour for the morning thinking there would be more animals and birds out and about. But the rainforest lived up to its name and most all living creatures were hunkered down until around noon. I would suggest if you go September through March you schedule your tour in the afternoon. That being said, it was a wonderful day. Our docent was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area. And the gondola ride down and back up through the canopy was quite stunning. The young biologists who work there are doing valuable and important conservation work and I would hope that you would make an additional contribution to their Foundation. Oh, I forgot to mention that during our ascent back up through the rainforest canopy the sun came out, the birds started singing, the frogs croaking and the howler monkeys, well, howled! Overall, even though it was a little hard on this senior's knees, I'm very glad I had the opportunity to experience a little piece of this beautiful country.

I visited the rainforest on my cruise. I definitely recommend hiring a private taxi for the day and touring by yourself. It was a beautiful rainforest and we had our own tour guide so it was personalized. We purchased the 99$ per person. We got to go on the aerial tram and zip lined thru the forest (11 lines)! Great experience!! Will definitely visit again!

We visited Veragua park as a shore excursion from a cruise. It was very crowded that day and our group was made to wait in line for an hour while other guests who came after us were moved to the front of the line for the aerial tram ride. The tram ride was supposed to be 8 minutes down and 8 minutes back up, but since it was so crowded, the tram operators sped up the tram, so we actually only had a 3 minute ride each way. We saw absolutely no wildlife, which I understand is the luck of the draw, but it would have been nice to see something. On our return, we were made to wait another 45 minutes while the same guests from before, were moved in line ahead of us. This was a very expensive excursion, and I was really looking forward to it, but it was a terrible experience. Do not waste your time or money, if there are other ships in port that day. It might have been nice on a slow day.

We enjoyed our trip to the Rainforest. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The views from the tram were amazing. Plenty of exhibits, we enjoyed the frog exhibit and butterfly gardens the most.
They do serve breakfast and lunch, we were early so we had our breakfast which was plentiful and only $10.00 per person.

We went as part of an excellent tour with Limon tours (Jorge). Although it is expensive we enjoyed every minute of it. Our guide was Freddie, that young man was so passionate and knowledgeable. Freddie made sure we saw as many animals as possible and we were so thankful for his hard work. Make sure you go, and also we recommend you look up our review of Limon tours. Jorge will make sure you have a great time in Puerto Limon.

We visited the Veragua Rainforest on a Shore Excursion from a recent cruise. This was a very nice park with an Aerial Tram ride, many exhibits, and trails. We had a tour guide with us the whole time. Take heed, if you choose to go see that waterfall (which is very pretty) you must go down (then back up) 350 steps total. It was quite a workout, and not for everyone. The upper area had a gift shop, restrooms, and a place to sit and eat. We hoped to see all kinds of live animals in the wild, but only saw a green tree frog. The exhibits had various snakes, butterflies, bats, etc. They also have a zip line you can do for an extra fee.

We loved going to this park. We did the zip line, jungle walking tour, and the ride. We had an amazing tour guide that taught us many thing about native plants and animals. We even gave him a ride home and he recommended a nice restaurant in downtown!

This place is even better than it looks online! The park is very spacious and absolutely stunning. The zip line was perfect for our whole family. Staff is all super friendly and our guide, Eder, took wonderful care of us and is very knowledgeable so we saw and learned a ton. Our son wants to be a herpetologist and scientists here took the time to show him an endangered species they are studying. We all had an amazing and memorable time!

Will the rainforest be muddy in March? What shoes would be best?

The below answers are pretty much on target. We were largely walking on paved pathways, but I did remark that the woodlands were drier than I had imagined in December. Still, wear comfortable flat shoes that you won't worry about soiling. Just go and have a good time! Hope you see the sloth!

Hi. Anyone know if the guides are employees of the park or tour agencies? I called the number listed here, and it appeared to be a house number, the lady couldn’t speak English, and I think she said she is a tour agency..?

Employees of the park. Our cruise ship tour guide also did one of the groups, and he was one of the best guides we've ever had

I read it was wheelchair accessible but my question is, is the transportation to the site accessible? Does the vehicle have a ramp or lift?

The site seems to be, transportation was a regular bus booked through our cruise line. That didn't seem to be wheelchair accessible.
