Tour by Land/ Bus, Train, and Water (Boat)
Dec 2019 • Couples
My husband and I visited Limón, Costa Rica on Dec 2019, as part of a two week cruise visit. This was one of the cruise stops. Unfortunately the least favorite stop. The weather was humid, and hot and to be expected. People are very humble and nice! Make sure to drink plenty of fluids while in town. We took a local tour bus which we paid $39.99 per person, a total of 3 hours, with drinks, fruits, and tour guide included. Part of the tour was ride by bus ( land), train and ( water) boat. We were super excited to meet all 3 choices in one tour, but wasn’t what we had in mind... maybe because it wasn’t much to see... We first took a long bus tour with good AC. We first passed by a plantain farm. where we received what we all thought too much info about plantains 🤔 Then we ride by the oldest train in the area (about a 15 min ride) and it was cool 👌 We were able to spot a few wildlife animals. Then we stopped at a local shop, and enjoyed of juice and fruits which was included as part of the tour. In our way we passed by the beach, and coast. It reminded me of what my parents told me life was used to be in the 40-50’s. The boat ride lasted less than 10 min. By then all people were tired and disappointed of the tour. Didn’t feel safe as it was getting dark (5:15 PM), and the river was dark brown. Overall it was an ok experience. I can say I have been there done that! I do not recommend visiting Limón, but perhaps another area of Costa Rica! Good luck.

Close to cruise ship dock, very knowledgeable guides
Nov 2019
We met our tour guide and there were supposed to be 21 other tour members, but pouring rain discouraged all but 4 of us. After a short wait, our tour began with Sergio and Shurri. When the rain stopped, it got hot and humid; nice weather for a walking tour.

Limon has an interesting past beginning with Christopher Columbus, the United Fruit Company to the present.

The tour ended at the catholic cathedral where we asked Shuri our guide to join us for lunch. Shuri took us to D’ Patty House where we ate beans, rice, chicken and fish with a sample beef filled patty (ground beef with spices) and a ginger fruit drink called sorrel made from a Jamaican flower. Everything was good and inexpensive.

Simply the BEST walking tour - with an AWESOME guide!!
Jan 2020
This was an amazing walking tour. Our guide, Sergio, met us at the Pavillion in the Vargas Park. We had an amazing tour for the next 3 hours. Our party of four had one slow walking member with a cane, which was not a problem at all. Sergio narrated with excellence, and we saw the main boulevard, the market, and the highlight was the Catedral Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. Sergio was simply amazing. We also saw several sloths in Vargas Park. I would highly recommend Explore Limon Walking Tour. You don't need a bus, you can learn everything with a casual walk and a good guide. We were totally comfortable. (Apparently the tours are temporarily shut down as Sergio is away, but keep an eye out for a future re-incarnation).

Bus, boat, and train tour
Feb 2020 • Couples
The bus was good, saw crops and countryside. The boat was very nice, lots of wildlife and jungle.
The train was rough. They made a joke that it was new train-built in 1940. They were NOT kidding.

Nice historical walking tour.
Jan 2020
We met at the central pavilion in the park. The park is a bit sketchy with men sleeping on the benches & others who wanted us to give them money. The guide was waiting for us just as we expected. We were with another family from our cruise ship. The guide was pleasant & knowledgeable, the walk was easy & mostly in the shade.

Explore limón walking tour
Dec 2019 • Family
This was the best tour I’ve been on. Our tour guide and founder Sergio was so knowledgeable and friendly, we had an amazing time walking through the city. He took us to an amazing restaurant and got to see the rainforest. I was in a group of 8 people and we all had an amazing time. Definitely would recommend to any and will definitely have to come back and visit.

Disappointed
Nov 2019
We booked this tour based on reviews here and trust that reviewers are honest. Unfortunately Sergio is no longer leading the tour. The woman who is now offering the tour was quite pleasant, but the tour lasted about 50 minutes and we were the only couple on the tour. Some of the planned stops were not open, so we just skipped by them. There is not much in Puerto Limon if you are on your own, so we were relying on this tour to really get a feel for the city, unfortunately that did not happen. Really wish I could recommend this tour, but at this point I would suggest booking another tour to gain better insight into the area.

Dear Renee, You are right, I am not leading the tour anymore because I had to move from Limon due to a new opportunity to grow and develop my profession. I am truly sorry that you had a bad experience with Shurraine, the new tour guide, she has been trying her best to give a walking tour that keeps the same concept I developt through these years. We are constantly working on improving what we do and this comment will definitely help us in having an idea about what aspects we need to work on and what key points should be reinforced. Much appreciated, Sergio

Excellent personal tour!
Apr 2019 • Couples
So glad we found this tour. Sergio was fantastic! There were just 2 couples for the 2 hour tour. It was Good Friday, so much of the city was closed, but we learned much about the history of the city, the people, religion and architecture. This young man was very personable and Knowledgeable about the city and his country.

Superb must do walking tour!
Mar 2019 • Couples
Sergio is the best international tour guide we have ever had! Extremely well versed, articulate, and passionate about eco-tourism in his locale. The time flew as he shared the insider view of historic landmarks and brought us passed the tourist "outside marketplace" into the back "locals' area "where he was warmly greeted by those who supply the locals with food and produce. We never would have found it ourselves or felt comfortable on our own and yet experiencing the interactions with these workers who proudly answered our questions was a gem. A highlight was when he checked on a 92yr old woman who was an original stall worker for 70 years there as an herbalist. She had been ill and warmly received Sergio's hug and our good wishes!
We came off the NCL Jade and it just walked 5 min to meet in Vargas Park on the Right after leaving the cruise port. ( We are in our 70's, overall tour easy flat walking, paced well ) Don't miss the sloths in the park trees. We had booked ahead of time, others that am. Worth dropping by to see if room due to no shows. Back on the ship it sounded as if our tour was better than the formally sponsored ones !!!
