It should look like it's expensive (~30$) but the visit is really interesting, the guid is absolutely perfect and funny ! and when you finally learn that the sanctuary only exists thanks to the donation or entry tickets, 30$ are normal. Happy to have participated to that experience ! (Big Kisses to Toyota)

The tour starts with a leisurely boat ride where one can spot caiman, reptiles and birds - very pretty. We then had a guided visit to their longer term residents, the sloths who have been injured or orphaned and who now reside at the sanctuary. The guide gave an excellent talk that was both informative and engaging - in Spanish... More

What a great 2 hours learning lots about these amazing and cute creatures. The staff was knowledgeable and accommodating in both Spanish and English. We learned lots an have a greater appreciation of these native animals.

Wow, thanks! Educating guests about sloths and their diminishing habitat is one of our most important responsibilities. It touches us to know that your appreciation for sloths has grown deeper. Thank you for supporting the sloths with your tour. ¡Pura vida! More

We did the insiders tour... If you can afford it, I'd recommend it! It includes the basic tour, plus breakfast or lunch (we had lunch. Simple but very tasty soup, sandwich, chips, and a drink). On top, you visit the NICU to see the tiny baby sloths! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and gave us loads of information about sloths... More

Thank you for your detailed review. We appreciate the kind words about your experience here. Your statement about releasing the sloths is spot-on. Not only is there no scientific data to back up survival rates, but also there is evidence that releasing them into wild gene pools can cause birth defects. This is phenomenon is currently being studied by several... More

We had a amazing day on the insiders tour with Marco he is so knowledgable and has made a really great tour! We started the morning with the buttercup tour where Marco showed us several of the permanent sloths and a few of the babies and told us lots of info about the sloths.. The buttercup tour includes a boat... More

The tour guide Marcos was very knowledgable and helpful. The sloths are well cared for. They appear healthy, have clean, spacious enclosures and proper set ups for climbing and sleeping... We paid for the expensive "insiders tour", unfortunately this was not worth the money. We did most of the tour with the masses that paid 30.00 and the only difference... More

Thank you for comments. It's true that we're not right in the middle of the tourist areas, but we are only 15 minutes from Cahuita and 30 from Puerto Viejo. We try to communicate this to guests on our website, but will work on making this clearer for other guests planning their visit. ¡Pura vida, Brenda! More

This is a wonderful tour. I would highly recommend. My family loved it, the canoe ride through the canals was fantastic. They really take care of the sloths and the place itself. Everything is clean and inviting. We received so much valuable information about these lovely creatures that I love them even more. And I have to mention our tour... More

We went to the sanctuary our first day in Cahuita, not realizing we would see a sloth in the wild every day there! haha The sanctuary was very knowledgeable. Although it is on the more expensive side, you know your money is going to great cause.

My brother is a big sloth fan, and this was his first time visiting me in Costa Rica (I live in San José), so of course he wanted to see the sloths up close! I had been to the Sloth Sanctuary a year prior, and had done the cheaper tour. I was explaining it to him and he really wanted... More

Very sorry to have disappointed you and your sloth-fan brother, Danae. The admission/donation fee directly supports the sloths, so while we know the price is high, we try to give added value to the Insider's Tour experience. Yes, the longer tour dovetails with the 2-hour Buttercup Tour that you took the year before. Thank you for your comments. More

This was our second visit to the Sloth Sanctuary. We were here in 2012 and loved it so much we had to come back. Judy Arroyo runs an amazing sanctuary for orphaned and injured sloths. We paid for the Insiders Tour and stayed for two nights at the bed and breakfast. You can't hold or touch the sloths anymore (it... More
