This sanctuary is absolutely amazing! If you pay for a regular tour you get a river boat ride and then you go inside the buildings to see their rehabilitated sloths while learning about each individual sloths situation. I was astounded by the education and care they provide these misunderstood creatures. If you pay for the "insider" tour you are provided... More

We visited the sloth sanctuary this morning (group of 6 adults). The tour was very informative and the sloths were very cute. The tour included a tour around the sanctuary to see the permanent residents and learn about sloths, followed by a boat tour through the river where we saw a sloth and howler monkeys. This is one of the... More

We stayed at the Sanctuary for two nights, I believe we were the only couple staying at the time. The work that the sanctuary does is incredible on a shoestring and we were both happy to be able to contribute to the cause and learn all about it so we could spread the word. We did the Buttercup and Insiders... More

My husband and I did the Buttercup tour and we loved it! You star with a one hour canoe ride through the forest, and it was breathtaking, so beautiful! The guide was very knowledgeable and had a great eye for spotting creatures in the foliage and he stopped so we could take a look and take pictures. After the canoe... More

I visited the Sloth Sanctuary with my husband. A two hour Buttercup Tour costs $30.00 USD and we think it is worth it. The tour was very informative and we got to see adult sloths and infant sloths in a nursery, learn about them and why they are there. There are over a hundred sloths there and the ones we... More

Karen, thank you for your review! We strive to educate people about sloths, their changing environment and the effect this has on the species. We're pleased to have met the mark. Hope the rest of your Costa Rica holiday was wonderful. ¡Pura Vida! More

It should look like it's expensive (~30$) but the visit is really interesting, the guid is absolutely perfect and funny ! and when you finally learn that the sanctuary only exists thanks to the donation or entry tickets, 30$ are normal. Happy to have participated to that experience ! (Big Kisses to Toyota)

Toyota and all the other sloths appreciate your visit and kind words. $30 may feel expensive to some guests, but the admission/donation directly supports sloth care, research and the difficult task of making people understand the effect of habitat destruction. We are so glad you enjoyed your tour. Merci bien, Aurelie! More

The tour starts with a leisurely boat ride where one can spot caiman, reptiles and birds - very pretty. We then had a guided visit to their longer term residents, the sloths who have been injured or orphaned and who now reside at the sanctuary. The guide gave an excellent talk that was both informative and engaging - in Spanish... More

What a great 2 hours learning lots about these amazing and cute creatures. The staff was knowledgeable and accommodating in both Spanish and English. We learned lots an have a greater appreciation of these native animals.

Wow, thanks! Educating guests about sloths and their diminishing habitat is one of our most important responsibilities. It touches us to know that your appreciation for sloths has grown deeper. Thank you for supporting the sloths with your tour. ¡Pura vida! More

We did the insiders tour... If you can afford it, I'd recommend it! It includes the basic tour, plus breakfast or lunch (we had lunch. Simple but very tasty soup, sandwich, chips, and a drink). On top, you visit the NICU to see the tiny baby sloths! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and gave us loads of information about sloths... More

Thank you for your detailed review. We appreciate the kind words about your experience here. Your statement about releasing the sloths is spot-on. Not only is there no scientific data to back up survival rates, but also there is evidence that releasing them into wild gene pools can cause birth defects. This is phenomenon is currently being studied by several... More

We had a amazing day on the insiders tour with Marco he is so knowledgable and has made a really great tour! We started the morning with the buttercup tour where Marco showed us several of the permanent sloths and a few of the babies and told us lots of info about the sloths..
