About
Canopy Adventure "Barva Volcano" is located only 35 min. from the international airport and 40 min. from San Jose; on the province of Heredia at the foothills of the Barva Volcano. It was established in 1998 by a Forest Engineer on a private reserve of over 400 acres. Placed in the middle of a Cloud Forest, at about 7,000 ft above sea level, there are a total of 13 platforms and 8 cables crisscrossing a river while traveling on a protected biological corridor. Starting with easy cables and leaving the best for the end, a 600 ft. run over an amazing waterfall. Although the cables are unforgettable, the adventure is also about the forest, the guides love to share their knowledge of this unique environment with you on a nature walk that is worth the day trip by itself. Suitable for all ages, the youngest adventurer to do this ride was no more than 2 years old and the oldest one yet, 88 springs. Come fly through the cloud forest on this unforgettable adventure right in the Central Valley!!!!

Had a great time at the zip line adventure park today. We drove ourselves and just called beforehand to arrange a time for our zip line tour for the eight of us. ( if you are driving, the roads up there narrow to one lane in places and they can get a little hairy but that’s part of the adventure right?!) We loved how chill the guides were but still safety focused. The kids could stay busy in the playground area while we geared up too which was an added bonus. The truck ride up to the first zip line station was actually kind of fun and adventurous in itself - about 10 minutes. We had grandparents with us and the youngest kid that didn’t want to do it and they could tagalong and watch us go off the first zip line and then meet us at the end no problem. Diego and the team were very accommodating and helpful. We loved how uncrowded it was compared to some of the other very busy touristy places we have been. Because you’re up at altitude it starts turning into Cypress Forest which was cool too. Highly recommend. Exactly what we wanted - about an hour of actual zip lining with genuine guides that were fun but no schtick - they didn’t try to sell us anything and gave us some coffee cake and coffee at the end which was a nice touch too. Thank you Diego and team!

I booked the canopy zip lining with my husband, knowing it would be way out of my comfort zone and thought I’d either chicken out, or grit my teeth and just get through it. But it was brilliant! Diego and Co put me at my ease with their calm expertise and sense of humour. I’d donut again. This scaredy cat had so much fun!

I thought I would be scared, but I felt perfectly safe with these guys. Looking around the treetops is very cool, and the ziplines are really fun! The guides are super nice people, and Diego took some great photos. I would definitely recommend this.

The canopy is gorgeous. The zipline is a lot of fun but very easy. This is not a 'thrill adventure' at all (Sky Trek Arenal is much more of a thrill for example). But, it is a lovely opportunity to see the forrest and learn about it and go on a canopy tour. They obviously love the forest and Costa Rica. I really appreciated how awesome Arturo was with our kiddos - I mean he just went above and beyond to really make this experience fabulous for our family. We had a 4 year old son and I was so nervous about him ziplining. He did amazing and begged to go again the next day - that's how much he loved it!! They were so safety oriented and protective. I am a very anal mother and I never for once felt nervous once we were there and I saw just how awesome they were with my boys. I'm so glad we went and would encourage anyone thinking of doing a canopy zipline tour in Costa Rica with young children to consider this place the very best option for young kids. I spent hours researching ziplining before we went and talked with many companies about safety and their brake systems, their cables, pulleys, etc. - they do not cut corners here at Barva. If you are looking for a high thrill ride, I do not think this place is what you are looking for. If you are looking to see and love the forest and be in the treetop canopy and especially if you have young children, this place rocks!!

The tour guides are great: personable, hilarious, and they obviously know what they are doing -- and, of course, the cloud forest is beautiful. In total, there are 8 zip lines that progressively get faster and longer. Safety is very important, and they give clear lessons related to good form and what to do and not to do. I was a bit nervous in the beginning, but the zip lines ended up being a breeze. I would recommend this for all ages, especially if you are in the area :) Also, take a rain jacket in case it starts pouring!! I learned that the hard way!

It is an amazing place, lots of flora and fauna (cloud forest). You can mountain bike and hike or if you want you just can go through 8 different canopy lines with different speed levels. The guides are very nice, knowledgeable and funny. Canopy is for any age (above 4 years old). It is close to the city. It is highly recommended.

Being that it was the off season, they were able to accommodate and book me in very last minute for a canopy tour. The location was beautiful and the zip lines were a ton of fun with great views. Everyone that worked there was super friendly. Our 2 guides were excellent; very knowledgeable and fun!

I inquired about ziplining but after explaining some of the logistical issues I had (scheduling, luggage, meals), Ingrid took it upon herself to arrange for everything--from pickup, zipline, lunch, and drop-off at our hotel. I was blown away with her generous hospitality. The driver she arranged for us, Juve, was wonderful. Lunch was excellent. Finally, our zipline instructors Jackson and Brian were warm, funny, and made us feel very safe and comfortable given we were first-time zipliners. I booked the activity based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and am writing here now to let you know these people earn and deserve every one of their five star ratings.

We were searching an activty for half day plan near the central valley and luckily found Canopy Adventure. The four of us really enjoy it. It can be chilly, since it is cloudy forest, so hoodies prooved handy. The guides (team of 2 per group) was very friendly and funny (good to deal with the excitment rush!! or was it fear?). Small children can do it as tandem to a guide or a parent, but older (8 or above) kids will enjoy it better. For all the "green freaks" a great explanation of environmental services payment and sustainable forest management was part of the tour.

How much would it cost for two people to go zip lining there if I already have the gear?

Hello! We do not allow people to use their own gear for safety reasons. And the cost remains the same.
