We didn't stay at their hotel facilities, but we heard about the Bat Program tour. At first I thought it was a bit expensive, but at the conclusion of the tour I was sold. Our guide was able to switch between English and Spanish with not problem. He was very informative and you can see, he loved the subject. The... More

We hated to lose a whole day to transferring, so we added the Tirimbina Chocolate Tour on at the last minute before departing from Peace Lodge to Tabacon. We were thrilled! OVERVIEW You will check in at the front desk, and a guide will lead you on a 2.5 hour tour of the chocolate plantation and describe how chocolate is... More

We went on this tour on a wet December day with our two children, 7 and 12 year olds. Every one left having loved the 2 hours. We bought ponchos at the gift shop not having planned for a down pour. We highly recommend bringing closed toed shoes/mud boots and rain gear. The hike to the presentation location was spectacular.... More

We attended the Bat Program and the Chocolate Tour. The Bat Program was informative and entertaining. They made me less squeamish about these important little mammals. Take a flashlight with you if you go at night. The Chocolate Tour was fascinating, interactive and delicious! The ecology of cocoa trees was the backdrop for learning the history of cocoa harvesting and... More

We visited the reserve twice. The first time a night and got to learn about bats up close and personal. They are fascinating creatures and not nearly as scary as Bella Lugosi would have you believe. On our second visit we learned all about cocoa and its final form chocolate. We got to taste it from seed to its final... More

We didn't regret many of our activity choices in Costa Rica but this was certainly one that we wished we had skipped. The hike is fun especially over the 1000 ft long suspension bridge and the 10 minute walk through the jungle was also enjoyable but the chocolate section left much to be desired. We saw a cacao tree with... More

For the entrance fee you have to pay, there are much nicer parks in Costa Rica. We didn't make any tour, and couldn't see any animals, except few birds and frogs. Maybe the chocolate tour, or bat tour will be nice. The wooden steps were slippery and rotten. At some steps were even holes, where you can easily get your... More

My wife and I did the chocolate tour and it didn't disappoint. We showed up a little late and our tour guide was waiting for us at the checkin. Make sure you ask for a map when you check in for the chocolate tour so you can hike after the tour, it is included with the chocolate tour. If you... More

We decided to make a day of it here, so we walked some of the lovely trails in the morning, had a sandwich in the restaurant at lunchtime and then joined the 'chocolate Tour' in the afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed every part of the day. Great setting, great guide for the tour and a wonderful setting.

We stayed on premises in a basic but functional lodge room which I recommend to fully experience this place. We hiked trails through the natural forest with an experienced naturalist who explained the environment in ways we would never have known on our own. In addition, we attended a night-time bat lecture wherein the researcher team captured 4 different types... More
