I was traveling to Tamarindo for a wedding with limited time away from the resort but Meg was able to give me a full list of everything the area had to offer and craft an itinerary that was exactly what I was looking for. She found 2 amazing restaurants in town and set me up with a fantastic masseuse, with seamless transportation service. Feasting on a seafood platter cooked in volcanic rock on the beach at sunset, with monkeys up in the trees, was such a highlight of the trip! The itinerary was timed perfectly for my needs but the assistance didn't stop there. Meg made sure I had all the tips I needed to have a fantastic time in Costa Rica- she is truly an expert!!

I’ve been home for a week from surf camp with CR Surf Trip and I’m still on cloud nine. Meg and Jairo embody so much of what makes Costa Rica magical – they are warm, welcoming, and exuberant. Add to that, the expertise they bring to every aspect of helping you plan a trip, from flights to transportation to accommodations to activities to restaurant and shopping recommendations. I’d book any package they offer without hesitation, and building your own trip with their invaluable assistance will ensure you get *exactly* the trip you’re dreaming of, whether you surf or not. The resources and relationships they have at their fingertips, and the lengths they’ll go to for you, will astound you. Jairo and the coaches he’s selected have been surfing Costa Rica their whole lives – you won’t find anyone who knows the breaks and conditions better. As the week went on, they took us to different spots so the conditions were perfect for us every day. I’m already planning a return trip to Costa Rica, hopefully the second of many, and wouldn’t dream of traveling with anyone else.

Oh my goodness where do I start! Our trip, hands down, was exceptional solely due to the help of Meg and her team at Costa Rica Surf Trip! This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we wanted the perfect mix of relaxation, beach, a little luxury, adventure, and culture...and we got all of that...plus some!! My partner and I knew next to nothing about Costa Rica going into the trip and Meg nailed it with suggesting locations, accommodations, restaurants, parks/tours...even a tattoo shop so we could forever be reminded of la Pura Vida! If you want the perfect experience, truly tailored to your preferences and travel style - both in advance and during your trip - Costa Rica Surf Trip is THE best there is. We are forever grateful and would hands down plan another trip with their support again :)

My daughter was traveling solo on the trip and my husband and I were nervous as it was her first trip by herself. Meg was very patient and thorough in explaining the details of the trip.
From day one Jairo and Meg made sure our daughter arrived safely and had a wonderful time. They made the trip very memorable for her and she loved it from the start. They made sure she had the best experience and leared a lot about surfing as well as made sure she had a lovely time during her excursions. My daughters returned home and could not stop talking about the wonderful time she had. I would not hesitate to send her on the trip again. Thank you Jairo and Meg for the wonderful time she had, and for giving us peace of mind while she was away.

We're glad we didn't overlook these guys because of the name! We didn't even surf on our trip, but the service, knowledge and flexibility went above and beyond any other company we have ever worked with (and we're no strangers to travelling). We had last minute flight change and they helped us with car rental, finding beach front accommodations and restaurant / brewery recommendations. They asked our needs and wants out of the trip and tailored exactly what we wanted from just a short conversation. The kids even approved!

Great Trip. This was our second trip visiting Costa Rica with Costa Rica Surf Trip. Jairo and Meg made it a great trip with great planning, great coaching, great company, etc. They even found alternate accommodations for us when reservations I made on my own did not work out. My family and I really enjoyed the trip - just wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend working with them if you want to visit Costa Rica. And if you like to cook and like the local food, be sure to ask about learning to cook with a local chef - fantastic experience.

Costa Rica Surf Trip did a wonderful job putting together our trip! We spent the first week in Tamarindo Diria as part of their annual Surf, Yoga, Golf Retreat. We played golf at Hacienda Pinilla and Playa Conchal. They both were in great shape and presented a great test! Tamarindo Diria is a fine resort and serves as a good base for enjoying local cuisine and shopping. Can’t wait to return in the future! We will be calling Costa Rica surf trip to plan!

Meg and her team at Costa Rica Surf trip were without a doubt amazing. From start to finish our trip plans went smooth, and she was there every step of the way to make sure everything was perfect during our stay (we weren’t there to surf and she still had all the answers!). Everything was completely catered to what we wanted to do, and on-the-fly advice and activities were easy to communicate at all times. I can’t stress this enough: communication! Meg was always available before and during our trip to make sure everything was to our liking. We weren’t sure where to stay in Costa Rica, but she knew exactly what places we we should be in order for us to get the most out of our trip for a large family group of 12! Need dinner recommendations? They’ve got em! Need fun activities? They’ll plan em! Places to stop during a long drive? They found em! If you’re looking to plan a trip to Costa Rica, look no further than Costa Rica surf trip!! Thank you Meg and team, we’ll see you again soon!

Have you been thinking about a surf trip?
Just book it already! It was wonderful! Everything was taken care of for us! There were so many highlights,but catching some great waves was the best! I had such an amazing experience! Jairo and Meg made me feel so welcome from the moment I got there. They went above and beyond to provide everything I needed to make it perfect. Jairo’s surf training was so helpful and Meg’s planning and insight made everything so organized and easy. It was the perfect balance between fun, exciting activities and relaxation.

Hi - My son (age 18), husband and I will be in Playa Samara from July 4-12. We spent 2 weeks there about 5 years ago (in December) and LOVED it. One of the reasons that we are returning is because my son wants to learn to surf. In looking at weather and tide charts, I noticed that high tide will be mid-day when we visit and that is also when storms are likely....Have I made a BIG mistake!?!?!? (I know you can't predict the weather but would love to hear your thoughts). THANKS! Susan

You’re right that in Samara high tide is better than low tide for surfing, however lessons can begin an hour or two before or after high tide and still provide good waves for beginner surfers!
High tide is predictable and changes by about an hour each day, so there will be options that will not conflict with unpredictable afternoon showers during your stay. It’s also good to note that while weather apps often predict daily afternoon showers during rainy season, July is traditionally more dry than other months of the wet season and daily rain is not typical (though, like you said, it is unpredictable especially this far out).
That said, we don’t think you’ve made the error of the century, by any means, and you should have decent options for surfing while you’re here!
