Great morning out at sea on a lovely fast boat. Left from the pretty Carillo Beach and in the first 10 mins saw a Humpback Whale and Calf .... very close by and quite relaxed as they stayed nearby for quite a while. There were a lot of Dolphins about but as they had babies they were quite shy. The snorkelling was over a rocky area with good visibility and a lot of varied colourful fish.

We were picked up at our hotel in Samara and driven to meet our guide at Carrillo Beach. We had a guide to ourselves, he was very good at explaining how to guide the kayak across to the island. We had a double and I guess it took about 25 mins to reach the island. There is nothing there apart from a little shade, fabulous iguanas, beautiful hermit crabs of all sizes and the very agile pelican. The guide said there were monkeys but we did not see them on our trip. We made sure to use plenty of suncream, we wore a rash vests and a hat as it was very hot and we did not want to get burnt. Our guide put all our things in a dry bag and ferried them across in his kayak. We had to wait a little while for the tide to go out so that it was safe and shallower for the snorkelling. In the meantime other people turned up in kayaks. It wasn't over crowded though. I had not expected too much of the snorkelling having read other reviews about the trip so I was not disappointed to find that the visibility was poor, there was not a great deal to see although our guide did find a sea snake and I found a stone fish. The coral unfortunately is dead. Having scuba dived for several years in the red sea this was no where near a comparison. Just don't expect anything and you may be pleasantly surprised. After the snorkelling we were given fresh pineapple and water before kayaking back to Carrillo beach and ferried back to the hotel. We had a great 3 hours, well worth the money.

We had a wonderful morning with our guide Christopher. It was early January, during the dry season, and he picked us up promptly at 6:30am and brought us a short distance to a private nature reserve across from a gorgeous beach. We heard a variety of birdsongs, and we saw two male long-tailed manakin, a female pale-billed woodpecker, and a violacious trogon, plus an entire family of howler monkeys, including several infants in the group. Christopher is knowledgeable about the local ecosystem and we learned much in our short time together. Highly recommended!

I understand turtles are a natural phenomenon and can't be predicted. We didn't see any turtles but the main issue was the tour guide! So the drive there is long, bumpy...be prepared for that! When we arrived he walked us onto the beach....gave a quick explanation then told us to wait by the log. Now he was gone approx an hour??? He just left us stood there? Another tour arrived and their guide walked them up and down the beach but not us?? So we were left as a group of 3 families all with young children on a dark, deserted beach. We started to walk the beach to look for ourselves as we were bored, we needed to find the guide and we didn't know what else to do. Our guide didn't come back and another guy appeared and walked us back down the beach. The guide eventually reappeared as we were getting towards the car with little to no explanation? He said he had walked the beach 4 times and saw nothing.....well he didn't walk past us?? He seemed to have no interest in our wellbeing, safety or anything to do with being a tour guide. If I could get my money back i would! Also he had 2 flashlights for a group of 12 of us???? So we could hardly see anything? Extremely poor guide!!! I would not recommend!
