It's centrally located on this stunning beach, adjacent to Gusto Beach restaurant which gives you access to their WIFI, The chairs and umbrellas were yours for the day for $15 (for two) and were seriously comfortable. We spent a lot of time in the inviting 80 degree water and watched people learn to surf. The instructor was incredibly good and adults to kids seem to love it and better than that, they surfed! He was personable and seemed to like his job and the people he taught. Then, on top of our greta day, I saw a sign for Covid Testing. We were leaving for the US the next day and that was the final required step that could have been a hassle. I talked with Pablo and she told us it was no problem and scheduled testing for us right at the counter. The tests were official and granted us access to fly home. He is such a nice man and several times reminded us to relax and approach everything withe spirit of Pura Vida.

Ticos surf school is the best. You can tell that the instructors are very professional and not in it just for the money. While other schools that we checked out had no problem squeezing us in to a group of around 10 beginners and no matter what the waves were like, the guys at Ticos were honest and said that for that day the waves are too big for beginners and that it's best if we come back tomorrow, which is exactly what we did.
The lessons were great, very clear instructions and both of us managed to get up and ride very quickly (and this is also thanks to a more individual approach, which you do not get in a bigger group). After the lessons we had a break and went back into the water in the afternoon for an additional hour and a half which was included in the price (board rental, without the instructor).
There is also one more thing I should mention, about the integrity of the school. I accidentally paid 50 $ too much, because two 50$ bills sticked together. Towards the evening, before I even noticed the money missing, I got a call from Ticos school telling me that they counted the register and that 50 $ was extra and that it’s mine. Since I wasn’t in Samara any more, but an hour drive away, they returned my money to me via PayPal. Much appreciate the gesture guys!

We liked this tour very much. Our guide Xavier was very knowledgeable and helpful, and told us a lot about local geology, ecosystem and wild life. Kayaking was not very difficult and we very able to see many fish and corals during snorkeling. We were fortunate weather wise, visibility in the water was quite good and waves were not very high. We definitely recommend this tour to everybody who likes water activities

I highly recommend this surf school. The team is great. They are very friendly as well as being very professional. They have good quality equipment. Depending on how i was improving and how the waves were they gave me a well adapted board every time. I quickly learned how to stand up and felt confident. The school is also really well located in between two restaurants/beach lounge areas to hang out. I'm very happy I went there, and would recommend it to anyone in Samara wanting to learn how to surf or improve their skills.

My daughters had an amazing morning surf! The instructor was very helpful and professional. He helped them with the basics of surfing in a way that made them feel safe and comfortable. We highly recommend this surf school to anyone who wants to try surfing for the first time.

Man, this school is just amazing. Spent there 7 months, Pablo the owner and his staff brought me to a level of stuffing i would never thought I could reach on such short time. The guys are not only good, but also funny, super professional and when they saw that waves were not good enough here in Samara, they organized the trip to another beach (Camaronal or Nosara)...
there are many options to rent a board or having a surf lesson in Samara, but don’t be fooled : quality and maintenance of the boards and equipments matters ... and here, Tico Surf has clearly an edge and, on top, is sitting in front of the best peak of Samara beach !

Everything about my experience with Tico Surf School was top notch. Pablo, the owner, is super friendly, fair with prices and helpful with local info. I took an intermediate refresher lesson with André and in an hour he eliminated my bad habits and taught me a handful of things for the break-through surfing experience that will have me surfing with confidence for years to come. My wife and teenage daughters took beginner lessons with him and were up and surfing with confidence within the hour. We surfed 3 days in a row in Samara and then went to Playa Giuones and were able to surf much bigger waves with confidence. Thanks to Ticos we are now a surfing family! I can't recommend or thank these guys enough for all their help during our week in Playa Samara. Pura Vida!

I took a semi-private lesson (myself and two others) with instructor Diego. It was an amazing experience. He gave us detail about safety, beginner steps to getting up on the board, and provided us with great tips on how to keep improving. He was detail oriented in his instructions which made me feel comfortable to get in the water and try it out.
The lesson was very affordable and they even took action photos of us and sent them to us afterward. I would recommend anyone who wants to learn how to surf to go here while in Samara, Costa Rica.

As a complete surfing novice I had a whale of a time on my private beginners’ lesson with Javier. He was very patient and encouraging and spent the time to teach me the basics on land before we took to the sea. I definitely made real progress in our 1.5hr lesson and would recommend Ticos Surf School to anyone visiting Samara of any surfing ability.

I had an awesome time surfing with Ticos Surf School. Pablo and Johel were friendly and professional, and the equipment seemed to be the best offered in the area for rent-at a very reasonable price. Personally I have taken a number of lessons but I learned more in my two lessons with Johel than all others combined so I was "stoked" about my time spent surfing in Samara!
