Had a great morning with the instructors in perfect learners conditions on Samara beach. Slatahn gave us very clear instructions and in no time all four of us were standing up catching waves, peeling off the lip, carving up the face and getting barreled. Felt like we could give Kelly a run for his money. Kidding. But definitely got us excited for more. All up and down the beach, folks of all ages were grinning from ear to ear. Definitely recommend this school and love the fact it's family owned and operated. Five stars.

We had a great time with our coach Slathan!! 🌊🏄♀️ With his instructions, we got up on the first wave and (almost) every wave after!! He was friendly and professional, and knew exactly what to say each time to help us get the waves. We would've liked a bigger challenge (like trying a few bigger greenwater waves even if it meant high probability of crashing 😅) as it turned out to be pretty easy, but we took a beginner class for two so we got a perfect version of what we paid for. If you already have some experience, I would recommend taking a one on one class, or a surf camp with multiple days. We were also surprised they offered professional pictures for only 10$ per person, but it's pictures from the beach, and we didn't get a picture with the two of us in the shot. The ones we got were good, so if this is a very special moment for you might be worth it. Overall, this is a safe buy, you won't be disappointed!! Pura Vida!! 🌴

Our instructor Emerson was amazing! Patient, helpful, made all the right adjustments to help us first time 51 year old surfers get up and ride some waves. We honestly didn’t expect to be able to. He deserves all the credit! The rest of the team provided all the needed info, shared with us that by booking we could use the padded beach chairs and umbrellas and lockers any time for the day too - and if that wasn’t enough they took amazing pro level photos of us both and sent them to us within an hour all included. Crazy value! Please come visit these guys- you will not regret it!

I had a great private lesson at Tico’s! I took a surfing lesson in the past but never felt confident. After working with Slathan at Tico’s I was able to get the hang of it right away! He was very friendly and knowledgeable, and took his time to explain everything on the sand before getting into the water. I appreciated Slathan’s feedback and had a great time! I was hesitant to try surfing again after my previous experience, but I’m so glad I took a lesson at Tico’s! It was definitely a highlight of my trip to Sámara and they also let you rent a board for extra practice in the days after your lesson so you can continue building your skills. 10/10 recommend!

Best surf school in Sámara! It was our first time trying to surf. A father and 2 daughters 15 and 17 years old! Yemerson was excellent to teach us! All 3 of us succeeded in getting up and surf!!! They included pictures, a palapas with 2 long chairs for my wife to relax and watch us learn surfing! I highly recommend the Ticos surf school if you want to learn surfing in Sámara!!! Pura vida!!!

Tico Surf School is a fun and relaxed surf school.
We took a beginners lesson and we also got 3 hours of using material. The instructor (slather) took all the time for us. They looked closely at the circumstances and when they do not match your experience level, they just move on at another time.
We learned a lot and managed to stay standing and surf some waves .... how awesome. There is also a possibility to have your lesson photographed. Nice and beautiful pictures have come out of that too.
After class we could try surfing ourselves. Safety is paramount at the surf school so we were again advised when we could surf independently and when not given the level and weather conditions.

Had an awesome experience learning to surf with Ticos! Instructors take their time, work on the basics, and build up to catching and riding waves solo. Constant feedback and guidance, and positive reinforcement made learning fun and easy!

I travelled to Samara this December with my family and was lucky enough to take 6 surfing lessons with Slathan at Ticos Surf School. I’d never surfed before but under Slathan’s excellent guidance I was able to learn the basics and even catch a few green water waves! All the staff at Ticos are kind, supportive, and amazing teachers. My family and I felt like they were friends by the end of the week. I already miss being in the water on the surf board every morning, and can’t wait to travel back to Samara again for more lessons. A huge thank you to everyone at Ticos, but especially to Slathan, who was so encouraging, always made us feel safe, and introduced me to this amazing sport. Pura Vida!

The go-to surf school in Samara
We chose Ticos Surf School based on friends’ recommendations and we were not disappointed. Pablo was super responsive to Whatsapp questions and very cool on site. We went on a cloudy/rainy day and they were there, rain or shine. Very good briefing for a first surf lesson for my kids (11 and 13). Then surf coaches Slathan and Emerson took good care of them in the sea. We got good pics and the kids were able to practice afterwards. Highly recommend the place.

I booked surfing lessons with my friend and his daughter. Slathan was a great teacher/lifeguard, taught us basic skills on shore first, then helped each of us get going in the surf! We all succeeded in getting up on the boards, we're now surfers.
