Outstanding tour. Samara Adventure Company organizes transportation to the reserve, which is privately maintained, and excellent guides. Bernie, our guide, was exceptionally familiar with the trees and other vegetation, insect, birds and animals, and he had a remarkable ability to spot birds, lizards and the plentiful Howler monkeys in the canopy. Tour is about 5 miles on trails overall, with... More

Bernie apparently does this walk every day, sometimes twice and yet he conveyed interest and enthusiasm the entire time. He found things we would have never spotted on our own such as an own sleeping on a perch. He explained uses and history of... More

Took a morning excursion to the Werner Sauter Biological Preserve near Samara. Booked through Samara Adventures. Our guide, Hanzel, was well informed and provided an excellent commentary about the Preserve and the conservation activities. He also knew where birds and monkeys could be viewed and photographed. Hanzel shared a lot of information about the variety of trees and plants. The... More

Wonderful informative and knowledgeable guide (Hanzel) took us on an amazing hike. It is a very long hike so if your not in shape this is not for you. Picked me up at 7am & didn't get back to our hotel until after 11 am. Saw monkeys, beautiful blue butterflies and saw an amazing view at the top. After the... More

The Costa Rica Nicoya peninsula is the end of a microclimate that stretches north to California. The Werner Sauter preserve is a dry tropical forest and as such lends a welcome outdoor hike away from the beaches of Samara and Carillo. Our guide, Hanzel, held degrees as a tour guide and in ecology. So, more than identifying flora and fauna,... More

We were able to access this area from our villa in the hills. Wonderful trails provided moderate hiking to great views. Saw monkeys, sloth, coatimundi.
