My family spent all day fishing off-shore on the Kingfisher with Captain Rick and his crew. We had a total blast and ended the day with four large sailfish, and a mahi for dinner. A marlin hit one of the lines just before heading back but broke loose; next time... For anyone looking to do some great sport fishing while in Costa Rica, I would highly recommend taking a charter on the Kingfisher. You will love it!

We have been out with Rick & crew 3 times. They are absolutely fabulous. Every time has been the trip of a lifetime. Full day trips are ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. On our last trip out (2018) we catch & released a sailfish, saw some turtles and towards the end of the day, Rick found a MASSIVE (I'm talking thousands of them) school of tuna that a huge (over 30+ members) pod of spinner dolphins were praying upon. The sun was coming down onto the horizon and the spinners were wildly spinning all around us while hunting the tuna. Our lines were being bit left and right by black and yellow fin. It was seriously one of the most magical wildlife experiences I've ever had (we've been lucky enough to have a lot). We caught enough tuna to feed ourselves a feast (I think over 6) then just stopped and watched the magic of the spinners dancing all around us inside the tuna school with the sun glittering on the Pacific coast. It sounds made up, but I assure you it's real. Risk recommended a place to take the tuna and actually met up with us there. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but Im sure he knows if you ask. Its a little off the beaten path place in Carillo, outdoors in a courtyard jungle type setting up on the hills. They made us two types of sashimi, ceviche and tuna steaks and it was all UNBELIEVABLE. We can all still taste it. Do yourself a favor, if you're in the area, book this charter. It's always been a fantastic day and it just might be the best day you ever had!

We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to offshore fishing than we had today with Rick and his crew - Orlando and Alonso. Highlights of the day were swimming with a huge school of spinner dolphins, spotting an enormous sea turtle, and our boys catching a 35lb Dorado. Beer, water, fruit and an awesome tuna dip along with plenty of shade and awesome captaining made this an experience we will never forget. And to top it off, Rick dropped off our prepared catch at a local restaurant it we are very much looking forward to enjoying a delicious meal tonight. Thanks to Rick and the team for your patience and perseverance....and for giving us more than the half day and more than we ever hoped for.

Had an amazing trip with my wife aboard the Kingfisher. We did the full day trip and caught a blue marlin and three sailfish. Along the way we also saw spinner dolphins, white belly dolphins, and a couple sea turtles. Rick and his crew were great, and I’d go with them again no doubt. Picture is of a sailfish my wife reeled in.

Thanks to many positive reviews of Captain Rick Ruhlow and Kingfisher Sportfishing, I decided to celebrate my 40th birthday with several friends by fishing for Blue Marlin and Sailfish with Captain Rick and his crew of Orlando and Alonzo. I could not have made a better choice, and will do it again as often as possible. Rick and his crew worked hard all day to find us fish and showed us many kinds of sea creatures...killer whales, humpback whales, hundreds of dolphins, turtles, flying fish. We caught 2 Blue Marlin, 1 Striped Marlin, and 1 Sailfish. We almost caught several other fish. Alonzo made us delicious sandwiches, there was lots of cold beer (Imperial Silver) and Orlando made his famous Ceviche, which we all agreed was the best we’ve ever had. If you need a play to stay in Playa Carrillo, Rick and Jackie have the Villa Oasis available, which was incredible. You have 2 very nice buildings with several master suites, a beautiful outdoor pool and bar, surrounded by Costa Rican jungle. There is a nice breeze, monkeys, birds, and lizards to listen to and look at, and Mirta will make you an amazing breakfast each morning! The Villa Oasis is walking distance from several great restaurants, El Colibri, the Argentinian steakhouse was our favorite! We left Rick and Jackie feeling more like friends than clients, and wholeheartedly recommend you give Kingfisher Sportfishing and the Villa Oasis a try!
