We had a terrific vacation in Costa Rica with our teenagers and adult children. Laura took care of us with clear, responsive planning from beginning to end. Modesto was our wonderful, kind and attentive driver. We had a lovely sunset boat tour with Bogen and Marco that included fishing, paddling boarding and swimming. They had drinks and snacks for us on the boat and fixed a delicious beach lunch - chicken fish and sausage cooked over an open fire and Bogden’s mother’s potato salad. Another day tour guide Steven went with us for a full day of outdoor adventures including zip lining. We especially appreciated his extensive knowledge of the plants and animals we’d been seeing all week.

El Coco Tours is a reliable and friendly company to work with. We had the pleasure of having Oliver as our tour guide. Having grown up in this area, he knew the best places to see on our ATV Tour. He was polite, knowledge, spoke perfect English, and ensured we felt safe while trekking through the rivers and forest. Thank you for a great time Oliver!

We had a large group (21 people) and we had a wonderful time. Oliver and our driver picked us up and dropped us off right at the house we rented and stayed with us the whole day. On the way there we stopped at shopping center for drinks and a bathroom break. When we got there we rode horses up to the start of the zipline course. The zip lining itself was awesome! Beautiful views and the staff were all very friendly. We got a lesson about coffee beans, got to sample a sugar cane liquor and some coffee, had a great lunch and then we got to do a waterslide and hot springs and mud bath! On the way back to our rental house, we took a side trip to a beautiful waterfall and on the way there we even got to see some howler monkeys up in the trees. Oliver was very knowledgeable about Costa Rica in general and had a wonderful personality!! Great day. Thank you.

What an amazing day. Steven picked us up (12 of us including 8 kids) from Playa Flamingo and we spent a full day at Rincon de la Vieja doing it all.
River rapid float, zip lining, horse riding, waterfalls and more.
Steven is a blast to talk to (he knows everything about CR) and he escorted us through the park which was unexpected and amazing. Our own personal guide.
My advice: do it!!!

El Coco Tours far exceeded our expectations! My husband and I recently traveled to Costa Rico with our 3 kids ages 11 – 16 and mother-in-law in her 70’s. We scheduled two excursions with El Coco Tours: the Palo Verde boat tour and the Rincon de la Vieja hike. Laura coordinated all communications, was very responsive, and made scheduling easy. Alberto was our driver and Steven our guide for both excursions. The van was clean and comfortable with working seat belts and strong air conditioning. Pick up at our rental house was prompt.
Steven is a truly exceptional guide. He is very passionate about Costa Rican wildlife, especially birds, and is extremely knowledgeable, but also humble. He is honest if he is not certain, and he brought guide books with him to help answer our more obscure questions. He welcomed any and all questions, and his ability to spot wildlife is amazing. We would have only seen a quarter of the animals had Steven not been with us. Probably the most telling: he had us viewing a juvenile hawk while another guide walked their tour right by and thought we were simply taking a rest. Steven also shared about local conservation efforts and challenges as well as history and cultural significance of the sites. And since we only brought cell phones for pictures, he helped us take amazing photos by using his binoculars (a trick I have to learn now).
I did not realize this at booking, but these are private excursions and thus Steven tailored each to our personal desires (for instance, our daughter is fascinated by spiders/insects, so Steven made sure we had ample time during the hike to observe such). Our daughter is also vegetarian and Steven ensured she was accommodated during the included lunches.
El Coco Tours made our excursions very special, and we will book with them again when we have a chance to return. I can highly recommend.

I plan events for a business takes large groups on incentive programs. I am traveling for pleasure at this time. They handled everything from airport transfer planning all my family activities - National park, Zip-lining, and buggy rides. The staff and tour guides were amazing taking time point local wildlife, sharing the history and culture with us. We had the best time. I will use them again and I will recommend them to event planners who bring programs to Costa Rica.

Laura assisted us with many details that made our stay in Playa Flamingo amazing. She put together a day trip for my family (mother, husband, sister, 2 brothers in law, all ages 50 to 76) that satisfied all of us. Adventure, beautiful flora, exotic animals and fabulous food.
Isaac was an awesome guide! He is friendly, knowledgeable, caring and very accommodating. He got my 76 year old mother down and back up the hike to the Blue River safely. He was also our driver from the airport to our destination and for a day trip to Tamarindo. He provides a local experience with his knowledge of the area and recommendations.
We all enjoyed spending time with Isaac!

We recently booked El Coco Tours for a trip into the National Park to see the waterfall on the Rio Celeste. William was our tour guide and he was fantastic! He was right on time to pick us up in a very clean and modern van, stopped at the coffee shop for us, and got us to the park with care and great information along the way. He showed us monkeys, stopped to look at cashew trees, was able to share information about the country, the schools, and all the significant places we passed along the way. The walk in the rain forest was wet and cool and a nice break from the heat of the coast. We took many pictures and moved at our own pace. William was always eager to show us what was around the next bend and provided history and trivia. After the hike we traveled 20km or so to a great traditional lunch in an outside (covered) local cafe that was happy to accommodate our vegetarian diet. After lunch we toured the property for about an hour while a guide pointed out sloths, toucans, snakes, wild and purposely planted vegetation, and much more. William took pictures along the way and sent them to us after. He was a pleasure as was the whole day. I would recommend this company for tours!

My wife and I booked a tour through Laura on a private El Coco tour. We were met at our condo by Isaac for a great day long adventure. The thing we were mostly excited by is these tours aren’t run of the mill. Isaac was our guide and Coco Tours looks for hidden gems rather than the National Parks.
We visited the Celestial river first. The trail to the “natural surprise”. It started out by squeezing our own sugar cane juice, I got to be the oxen, and trying a natural sugar drink from the cane. Then we walked the trail down to the beautiful blue river and swimming hole. The trail is somewhat steep but steps have been installed along with a guide wire to help you along. Isaac was also making sure we were doing well. The pool is beautiful along with the rainforest that leads up to it.
After a nice swim we went and ate at a local restaurant where we were treated wonderfully by the owner and family. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed walking them while our meal was prepared. The parrots are huge! Lunch was great, a very typical Costa Rican meal. Watch out for the hot sauce though—even though it’s marked it’s not for the mild. We loved it in the right proportions.
After lunch we visited a beautiful falls on the way back. A refreshing way to end our adventure. The day provided just enough exercise to make our dinner guilt free!
Isaac is a great ambassador for Coco tours. He not only is funny and professional but a truly caring person. Along the route so many people knew him and we stopped and talked to folks he has befriended over the years. We tried fresh fruit from vendors he knew and sampled foods we never would have done on our own. We jokingly talked about the day as “I Survived Isaac”. Pura Vida.
