Andrew and Katy were very accommodating. They drove all the way out to pick up our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 10 and 9) way up in Playa Panama. They drove us down to Playa Grande for the surf lessons. Andrew focused on the adults and Katy focused on the kids. We started the lesson a little after 4pm and rode until the sunset. It was beautiful. Then Andrew drove us all the way back to our hotel. He definitely went out of his way to accommodate us! Now my 9yo son is saying that surfing was his favorite part of our 10 day trip to Costa Rica (and he also wants his own custom surf board...we created a surfing monster!) Thank you Andrew and Katy!

Hhahaha I sure hope he gets his custom surf board one day. We absolutely love hearing that it's someones favourite part of their vacation, especially since there are endless beautiful things to do. Surfing is still the best :) Thanks for the great sunset session

Andrew and Katy were amazing!! They picked us up, gave great lessons and even gave us fresh fruit and water to snack on. Super friendly and welcoming, which was very helpfully cause surfing is very outside of my comfort zone. Definitely recommend!!

I highly recommend the Latitude Surf Experience, primarily because Andrew is just a great guy and I love the fact he left Canada to start a surf company in Costa Rica. I’m sure there is no shortage of surf instructors or companies to choose from, but you won’t regret going with Andrew. He is knowledgeable about surfing and Costa Rica in general. He responds to emails quickly, and was prompt picking us up. He is super friendly, and patient so I am sure he would be great with your kids. At the end of the day, not only did we learn the basic of surfing, but feel like we also gained a friend.

We booked surf lessons for our 4 kids as part of our trip to Costa Rica. None of them have ever surfed before and it was a fabulous experience. My husband and I tagged along meeting Katy and Andrew at a designated spot. They will provide transport if you don’t have any. They stopped to point out howler monkeys on our way to the beach where the lessons take place. It’s a National park with many turtle nests. It isn’t crowded so it’s a perfect spot. They explained everything so well on the sand first before they hit the water. They worked with each one of our kids, provided water and fruit and tons of encouragement to make the time memorable and fun. Highly recommend.

I've taken surf lessons all around the world (Baja California, Mexico/Tofino & West Edmonton Mall, Canada/New Zealand/Kauai, Hawaii) and I've never experienced all the beginners in the group catching waves on their first lesson. Andrew and Katie work for your waves, they start with great tips and important safety information and then stay with you in the water. Again, I had one fellow do this on a one on one lesson in Kauai, but to do it for everyone in a large group - is incredible. Also, their energy is infectious and the fresh fruit and surprise fresh beach coconuts - make you feel you have arrived in surfing paradise (and you have). Pura Vida indeed.

We took our first surf lesson with our 10 and 12 year old girls with Andrew and Katie. Andrew took us to a remote beach that was quiet and not a lot of surfers to crash into to. He told us all the safety rules and we practiced on the beach. Everyone had a great time and they were both great teachers. We enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again. Highly recommend Andrew and his team for surf lessons.

We had the best time surfing with Andrew and Katy! All three of us are beginner surfers and we managed to all get up on loads of waves because we had the beach and instructors all to ourselves, with Andrew giving us a push on each wave. We also had freshly cut pineapple and ice cold water greeting us at the end of the surf which was an added bonus - plus cuddles from the puppies :) such a lovely couple who also gave us great tips on beaches to visit and places to eat. Can’t recommend highly enough!

I originally booked a surf camp with some friends through Point Break in November so I was surprised and a little nervous to learn that the camp was purchased by Rich and Sigrid and was now known as Latitude Surf Experience. Upon meeting Rich and Sigrid when we arrived in Playa Grande, it was apparent that the nervousness would be completely unfounded.
We were met at the hotel, where we were given an overview for the week. If you’re looking to learn how to surf, this is the camp you want to sign up for. They keep a very close eye on the tide, swell, and wind to determine when the conditions would be best to go out on the water.
The camp my group had signed up for included 8 lessons over 4 days, which meant an early pickup the next morning. Rich showed up promptly on time with our two instructors, Angelo and Koki, and took us to their spot. When I say it’s “their” spot, I mean it. There was a trail cut out through the jungle directly to the beach that was completely deserted. This was a perfect scenario to learn how to surf as you didn’t have to worry about other people accidentally running into you or having to compete for waves.
The waves in their spot were fantastic and Angelo and Koki made sure we were able to take advantage of them. Before the first lesson was over, everyone in our group had not only been able to stand up on the board, but were able to catch real waves (not just whitewater). This is a testament to the experience and teaching of our two instructors.
As the week progressed, they continued to teach us the finer techniques of surfing and pushed us to catch bigger waves that were still within our ever-expanding capabilities. At no time did I ever feel like they were putting us in situations that were beyond what we were capable of.
In addition to the fantastic instruction, Rich also brought out a drone which allowed us to not only identify areas to work on, but also to bring home so cool footage.
When we weren’t surfing, Rich and Sigrid were very helpful for providing recommendations of things to see (they had excellent recommendations for places that tourists typically didn’t know about) and do and organizing activities for us, including organizing a stand up paddle boarding and snorkelling trip.
While they did take over Point Break’s operations, they are trying to make this new company their own which I am very excited to watch for. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to visit Costa Rica.
TLDR: Owners are extremely friendly and helpful, instructors are awesome. You WILL learn how to surf here. Best vacation I’ve ever had.

How to start? This review will possibly sound more like Im describing an experience with our Canadian friends who live Costa Rica than a hired surf lesson/coaching session :-)
We did two separate days of surfing with Andrew, Katy, & Cocy at Playa Grande.
This special beach is uncrowded, beautiful (very natural, long, white sands) and also a turtle nesting ground! It has 3 distinct surf breaks and we were in the 'middle zone'.
We used their rashguards & boards and needed nothing for the lessons. Andrew provided a "locked beach bag" for our valuables that was chained to a log right where we were surfing.
Day 1, as a brand new surfer, I used the 8'+foam top board which was super easy to pop up on with Cocy's confident & jovial verbal guidance. The waves were lovely long rollers coming in sets about 2'-4' all day...I caught tons and learned how hard it can be to paddle back through white water! 😬
After the 2.5 hrs of surfing and getting refreshed on ice cold water and snacking on fresh fruit, we were headed back to our resort after Andrew stopped to show us their fav localsurf boutique & bar area, just inland from the main surf point at Playa Grande. We were able to grab a quick cervesa and a shower/walk around the little surfers paradise hotel, which was fabulous.
Day 2, three days later, was much smaller surf, but we caught tons of waves and could paddle back out easier. We all surfed together (experienced & me, the newbie) which really opened up the good vibes.
My friend Lilly was getting coached by Andrew (owner) & was doing so great on her long board! Andrew has such a positive, chill way of saying JUST the right thing to help get you connected to the water, your breath & the board. Pure Vida!
Cocy, their local CR (young!) teacher, encouraged me to try the 7'6" fiberglass "Yellow Tuna" Manual brand board just to see if i could balance on it.
He was really good at pushing me into the wave at just the right moment so i could get really confident popping up.
So.Much.Fun!! He also helped me feel safe riding over the bigger swells just before they crested by signaling me to either hold the rails (& do cobra) or "let go!" and roll under the wave without the board.
Andrew was watching me as well and gave me some great Breathing & paddling Tips.
At about the 2hr mark, we were hoping to be surfing just as the Sun Dropped, a thunderstorm burst out of the jungle and onto the shore...we all scrambled to grab the stuff & got a fresh rain shower as the boards were loaded onto Andrews vehicle 🤘🏼
After arriving back at our Playa Conchal hotel, we agreed that this was such a wonderful, trustworthy, friendly tour operator/company that offered a wonderful experience for a very reasonable price that we would without any hesitation RECOMMEND Latitude Surf for beginners OR experienced surfers!! Just do it!
Definitely book these guys! YOU absolutely will get exactly what you need from a surf day with Andrew & Katy.
Tell them Melissa & Lilly gave you the confidence to book and you might get the special treatment we did too 😋
Pure Vida!!

Andrew, Coci and Katy treated us right from pick up to drop off and everything in between. They are easy going while also being very knowledgeable and professional. Andrew paddled out with me and gave me pointers for two hours while I rode a gorgeous 8’3” custom board. Katy took pics and then joined us in the water. Coci worked with my friend to get her standing up and riding waves immediately. So fun! We all took a short break for cold water and watermelon and then hit the waves again. They did a fantastic job and exceeded our expectations. The waves were perfect, so consistent and fun to ride. Playa Grande is definitely THE PLACE to surf at any level. It has a sandy bottom beach break good for both learning and for advanced surfers. It is not crowded like some of the other spots so you can relax and focus on your skills and having fun with no stress. Andrew has a secluded beach access spot to park and walk out to the beach. Just bring your positive vibes and smiles and be open to an epic day of shredding!!!! Loved it so much that we asked them to take us out again this Friday! Can’t wait 🏄🏻♀️🏄🏻♂️
