Our trip was booked for a 4 day 5 night adventure, we were a group of 4, skill levels ranging from very experienced to intermediate/novice. All but one in our group had previously been to Central America on surf trips. This was my first surf trip on a boat, so; a lot of unknowns and a few concerns. My concerns in order of importance to me included;
1. Safe haven- Safety of boat and crew.
2. Accommodations- Size/condition of boat (comfort)
3. Personalities- crew/group dynamic.
4. Local knowledge- Of breaks and swells
5. Food/drink-quality/quantity
I think It is good to look at these variables as a percentage of total cost of trip, so the ratio at the end of each line item will provide you with the value (to me) which is the positive experience. Hard to measure, but think of it as ($/positive experience ratio or ultimate value)
1. First and foremost within a few hours all of my concerns were quickly put to rest. Ben was/is a Navy trained Seal (rescue swimmer, and medic) Cabo had been on this boat for over 14 years and it was very apparent that Rafe’ had an obvious comfort level on the boat and shared a dynamic with Cabo that could have only been possible after extensive experience of “time in the saddle” together. I don’t say this lightly and a lot of thought went into this part of the comment. (1:4)
2. Our accommodations were more then adequate and very comfortable. We had four, so; of our party, there was a “V-berth” (2) a starboard side cabin (2) and a Port side cabin (2) that slept Ben and Rafe’ . There were 2 bathrooms (one in the V-berth and one in the hallway that served the other two cabins, each had a level of privacy) Cabo, like all good captains slept upstairs, close to the helm at all times. All of the downstairs berths had A/C and individual fans, so sleeping at night was quite pleasant, cool as you would require. The boat had a small but adequate galley which Cabo used every inch of when preparing our meals. It was fun to watch him cook. Additionally, there was a salon with TV and an “L” shaped couch, along with a comfortable bow lounging (outside) and a covered ~350 sq/ft sun deck/flying bridge where we did a lot of lounging and star gazing at night. (1:2)
3. The personalities of our group was a “known-known” what we were unsure of was the crew. All I can say without going into too much detail was that these guys (all of them) work really well together and they are all incredibly skilled waterman and very conscious of their clients comfort. They always seemed to know when we were hungry, thirsty and tiered. They knew what we wanted before we did, and they always had it ready. They surfed with us, and truly spent time interacting with us on a personal level. If we were tired, they gave us space. We even hosted an old friend of my brothers who happened to be at Ollies on the best day! Rafe’ gladly shuttled him back to his boat late that evening after a night of story telling and drinking in the salon. All in all we became very friendly with all three, we all surfed together, fished together and ate together; we watched videos of the days breaks, and a movie or two as well. This crew really are “good people” (1:4)
4. The local knowledge of the breaks seemed more then adequate. We only surfed two breaks (Ollies and Witches) since these were “relatively close” to one another and since they were firing every day. Just to be clear, these guys would have taken the boat anywhere we wished, they were always more than eager to let us call the shots (even if our choices were not ideal) Again, we caught one of the best days that most at Ollies had seen in a long time. We also caught a day at Witches that produced one of the largest rouge waves anyone on the boat had ever seen. (it nearly swamped two Pongas who were anchored “beyond the break” ) What a site! (1:2)
5. As far as the food and drink? All I can say is wow! We brought some hard liquor (rum) but allocations of beer were included @ 8/each/ day. No one ever hit that mark except for maybe one day. As I mentioned, Cabo (captain/chef) was truly an innovator. He cooked 3 hot meals a day, all of which were excellent and cooked in the small galley. Fresh veggies, and meats including tenderloin, chicken, pork along with fish made up most of our dinners. Fresh eggs, rice, fruit and bacon for breakfast and fresh Guacamole’ and chips for snacks. Every day post session we had Gatorade and fresh fruit awaiting us upon arrival back to the boat. One evening we went diving for lobster, and came back with Abalone , clams and oysters, so fresh! Another day while fishing between breaks w brought in a small dolphin fish, Rafe’ preformed a textbook filet on the swim platform while the boat was moving and served up some of the best sashimi we all had ever had. (somewhere on that boat Cabo even had Wasabi, decoratively presented with perfectly sliced fish and soy! Wow! Again, all of this was seamless and seemed to happen with a level of precision and planning that almost seemed “Truman-show” like. (in such a great way) (1:4)
All in all these guys took all of the guess work out of our trip, they made us feel like they were only there for us and most importantly, all of them seemed to really enjoy what they do. For this reason I can only give them my highest endorsement. These guys are the best, it is great to see people who love what they do. Would we return? You bet!

Nine of us did a day trip to Ollie's Point and could not have been happier. Everything was taken care of for us. Including the 45 minute shuttle from Tamarindo to Playa Del Coco where the boat picked us up.The scenery on the ride was awesome and the food was great. The surfcould have been better but the snorkeling and beautiful black sand beach more than made up for it. I can not imagine what the trip would have been like with a swell. Do yourself a favor and take this trip! Great value, beautiful sights, fun captain and mate!

Where do I start.... This trip was a year in the making!! This was a dream surf trip for my 40th birthday with 6 of my closest friends. We did the 6 day Costa Rica/ Nicaragua trip.... which I highly recommend! Brian and Jennifer helped take care of every little detail from lining up rental boards, logistics, and every thing else. We had the opportunity to spend the first day and night with Jennifer on board and met up with Brian the next day in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. They spent the evening with us and definitely showed us a GREAT TIME!! The Boat is in great condition and has been well maintained. We found it most comfortable to spend the nights upstairs or on the front deck watching the stars and snoozing under the moon. Captain Cabo and first mate Rafa are great! They kept us moving and in the surf. They are both very personable and friendly and know the ocean, surf and the boat very well. I was amazed at the INCREDIBLE meals these guys produced in a very small kitchen. We seemed to always be eating, and eating well to keep the fuel tank full for long days of surfing.
We had the opportunity to surf Ollies Point, Colorados, Panga Drops, Asterillos, Playa Hermosa and Ollies Point again. We unfortunately never had a chance to surf Witches Rock due to unfavorable conditions (It was too BIG). Cabo and Rafa where very knowledgable with the surf conditions and helped us select boards for the break and tell us anything we wanted to know about each place we surfed.
Brian helped us with every little detail, we had lots of questions and he made sure to answer each and everyone and was almost as STOKED as us regarding our trip! I just wish we had more room on the boat to spend more time and surf with him! He helped us connect with Corynne and Ian @ Frijoles Loco's surf shop and coordinate all of our 12 rental boards and get the logistics taken care of so when we arrived, the boats were there and it was all seemless!
We had one small event, Costa Rica was hit with a 7.6 magnitude earthquake while we were aboard the boat, the crew always had our safety in mind and kept us up to date with all decisions and what we needed to do regarding a possible Tsunami. Brian was even nice enough to call all of our wives and relay the message that we were ok and safe since we had no cell phone contact at the time.
I can't say enough about this well run operation and can't wait to see these guys again and surf and enjoy what Costa Rica Surf Charters has to offer! Till we meet again.... Pura Vida!!!

The Ben’s, Raffa and Cabbo are the best. Their motto should be “Anything you Want”. This is the perfect vacation for any couple. If one person surfs the other can snorkel or relax on deck and take in some sun. The food is fantastic and the bar is well stocked. So don’t worry, you will not go hungry.
We called them two weeks prior to booking to get a surf report and after a few minutes on the phone we booked our trip. The surf trip was “WOW” they hooked us up with the best surfing of our lives and trust me when I say we have surfed all over the world. So if you are looking for a perfectly tailored to your specifications surf trip, then don’t hesitate to give these guys a call they will not disappoint.

I frequent Costa Rica 1-2 times a year and have been on several boat cruises. Single Fin blew the other cruises I've been on out of the water! We had 15 people on the boat with plenty of different areas for us to hang out and the smaller number on the cruise made it feel like you were on a private personalized cruise. The wind was pretty high in Coco and I wasn't sure where we would go or how the wind would effect the trip. No worries the crew got us to a secluded beach in a cove where there was amazingly no wind and we were able to snorkel, SUP, jump off the boat, and roam on a beautiful beach. Michelle is an amazing host always making sure you had a drink or cocktail, and checking to see if you needed anything. The crew made fabulous guacamole and fish tacos. Top notch crew, Amazing trip, overall FUN DAY in Costa Rica! Thank you All!!

we had a group of 12 for the 6hour sunset cruse and not a single complaint. Michele as a hostess was awesome, every time I turned around she was making delicious drinks and offering appetizers, I think there are two of her. Captain Juan and Rafael were also great answering all our questions and making an delicious lunch in the galley kitchen, more than 12 of us could ever eat. We were even lucky enough to meet Ben A and his girlfriend who became part of our group immediately and joined in to celebrate my wife and my birthdays. 6 hours flew by.

We had so much fun on Single Fin. Michele is an amazing trip organizer and hostess who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make the trip special. The captains are generous and make some of the best fish tacos we've had in Coco.

We booked a single day surf charter w/ Benny and his crew in February 2017 out to Witches Rock to celebrate my twin sons 18th birthday. WOW!!! Hardly enough words to describe what an incredible day this was. From our first greeting with Benny and his great big smile at the docks at Playa de Coco to the amazing food , great conversations , the company on the waves , and the private little island cove with it's amazing water caves this was a day my family and I will never forget. The Witches Brew is a clean, ship shape boat ! We cruised out to Witches Rock for an early morning several hour surfing experience (EPIC my sons' said) , with a quick snack break and then out on the waves for some more fun. We got there well before the other boats and had the waves all to ourselves for several morning hours. Not surfers ourselves , my husband and I did get to enjoy using some flippers and boogie boards and ride the much smaller break to the shoreline and back again. Raffael was great at getting us closer in and out w/ the small motor boat to allow for this. Although this is probably wave/ weather contingent I was thrilled we got to do this and experience the beauty of the water there. The boat has great sleeping quarters so if you're interested in spending a few days on an overnight charter you won't be disappointed . The food the guys prepared was so fresh and delicious and washed down w/ any yummy beverage you could possibly want was a great perk on this trip! We ended our day watching the sun set over the beautiful coastline with my sons planning their next trip! I would recommend Benny and his crew for any type of charter you're looking for .... a few hours ... a day or a few days! You won't be disappointed.

I cannot surf (yet) but was able to enjoy a half day cruise on Witches Brew. It was easily one of the most fun afternoons I have had in Coco! Everything is mellow and relaxed, there is plenty of booze to keep you entertained, the fish tacos were absolutely fantastic and the crew are extremely accommodating. The boat is spacious and well decked out, plus has a killer sound system. Definitely don't assume if you can't surf that you can't enjoy this boat and the folks on it. We cruised out to a remote beach past the 4 season, and were able to swim, snorkel and relax. All the other guests on the boat were great fun too. Overall, definitely an excursion you should do - and of course, watching sunset from the boat is very special. Great job Ben & Ben!

We came with another couple to Playa del Coco/ Costa Rica. 1 husband was a surfer. The other 3 of us just wanted an overnight boat trip. The crew was wonderful and professional and friendly. We went to a beach/cove in a national park. Great waves and we stayed aboard overnight. Saw dolphins jumping and playing in our wake. Sea turtles coming to see us. Phosphoresence in the water at night, the stars in the sky and 5 star quality food. The captain is the cook and he could be a chef in a great restaurant. Ben, the owner came along and added so much to the trip. The girls enjoyed laying in the sun on the boat, floating in the ocean on the tubes, snorkeling and walking the sugary black volcanic sand beach. It was heaven. Will definitely go back!!! Highly recommend it. Want to bring the kids back and do a trip with them. (19 yr, 21 yr and 24 yr.) This would be a great family trip too.
