We were a not-together group of six ( my sister and I plus two couples) who left on a Saturday afternoon sunset sail. Wendy and Dave are charming and accommodating and the crew are second to none! It was a bit windy which presented some issues but were dealt with by the very competent crew leaving us assured the trip would continue with our safety in mind. It was a beautiful sail out further into the bay and we sailed back into the most amazing sunset. This was an unforgettable excursion and I would not hesitate to recommend it. With the right person it would be tres romantic!

Nice trip on the Sea Bird to a beautiful beach accessible only from the water. The sand was the nicest of any beach we visited in Costa Rica.

The boat had a mechanical issue the day we were originally scheduled. The owner was apologetic and called us the day before, when it became apparent they would not be able to sail on our scheduled day. We rescheduled to a day later in the week.

The staff on the boat were friendly and helpful. We had all snorkeled before. They guided us on how to enter the water safely from the boat and we got right to snorkeling. Unfortunately due to heavy rain in the days before the water was fairly murky. We were able to see some fish. The teenage kids snorkeled for a while, but turned to playing on the beach.

The beach had wonderful sand and we saw a cool cave where water from the other side of a small peninsula caused thunderous booms to come out.

On the cruise back there were more drinks and refreshments. The crew hoisted the sails. It was a pleasant, quiet ride both ways which was great for seeing the views.

The only negative is minor. A couple of our party had trouble with the masks. I could not get a good seal and water trickled in to my mask forcing me to drain it every few minutes. One of my teens had a similar problem, he couldn't get a good fit. The mask was either unpleasantly tight or leaky. We ended up wishing we had brought our own masks.

Our family of 4 decided we wanted to go on a sailing trip, my bad I decided my family needed to go on one! There was nothing bad about this trip, it was great!! Our initial communication eight the operator owner was great, they do speak English as well. We did a half day adventure with snorkeling. It was a very relaxing experience, especially when you chill on the hammocks with the waves of the ocean. The staff on board was knowledgeable and attentive. I would recommend Sea Bird for your next ocean adventure...

A total rip off! $ 80 for 3 hrs. The experience was very far from the marketing on their web site and the price. The crew was as tired as the yacht. The yacht is not “romantic”, on the contrary quite worn down. On their web site they also say “sailing excursion” which is totally fake. There was no sailing at all. The motor was on all the time although it was perfect sailing winds. We asked about setting sails, both before leaving (the owner said yes of course!) and both during the trip but the staff didn’t care.
Besides that, the guided snorkelling tour” was a joke. The staff did not guide us to anything nor gave us any examples of what to look for. They anchored in a small bay close to some cliffs in pretty murky waters. The only positive was to experience the coast line from ashore during the trip.

Thank you for your input, sorry it was not what you expected. The morning tour is 4 hours though. Waters can be murky if the tides are coming in. We have a new crew now that is very attentive. I am not sure why the captain chose not to put up the sails, the wind could have been blowing the wrong way. We try to do so when we can, it make less work on the motor. Thanks, Seabird

We really enjoyed our sail and snorkel. It was a beautiful day, calm waters, great service. Really enjoyed the snorkeling - great for even first timers. Highly recommend it if you spend some time around Coco Beach.

We were picked up at the beach of playa del coco. They were waiting and took us to the boat. We traveled north and saw many beach and scenery of the land and sea. We were offered drinks and fruit and snacks that were fresh and cool. We stopped at a beautiful beach and had time to snorkel and swim. The crew were fabulous and told us history and answered questions. On the way back we had an added surprise and saw dolphins swimming along side the boat and jumping out of the water.

Thank you for choosing Sea Bird Sailing Excursions. It sounds like your trip was perfect, from the crew, to the scenery, to the dolphins. I have been many times and have only seen dolphins once! What a treat. Thank you again.

We very much enjoyed the laid-back ride out to Playa de Huevos where we snorkeled for a bit (not very much that day or at that time to see). The beach was stunning and fun to explore as the jungle came right down to the beach's edge and there were tunnels through the rocks that one could walk through at low tide. With gorgeous weather; a lovely sail boat; cushions and hammocks on deck; and an open bar with refrescos, beer, and sangria(!) for a reasonable price, it would be hard not to enjoy the cruise. For our first day, it was a perfect way to get the "lay of the land" along the coast and soak up rays.

This review is right on, Stephen, thank you so much! It is hard not to enjoy time out on the Sea Bird around the Gulf of Papagayo! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Costa Rica after the sailing excursion! Pura vida!

UNSAFE! My family of 6 capsized completely dumping all of us into shallow water with the boat coming ashore. Very little concern about safety. Lost bags, electronics ruined not to mention being banged up.

Our private all day tour was a huge disappointment . Dave the owner? Was more like a passenger only providing a little info and discussion at first. Hardly talked after that. Going below deck easily showed what lack of pride in ownership of a boat. Wendy and Dave bought Seabird 3 years ago and moved from Colorado. I don’t think they have much experience boating.

First stop was snorkeling and our beach bbq. Snorkeling was cloudy and very little to see. No guide to help.
BBQ lunch was the worst meal I had entire visit to Coco. Had to eat on our laps with plastic chairs, no table. We called the main dish chicken mush, nothing bbq about it. Desert was on the boat and was kids cookies out of a wrapper.
While on the beach the crew actually lost the dinghy for a bit when the crew had jumped out while the motor was running. Captain had to go running down the beach to get it. We actually had to wave them down from shore when all the crew was in the main boat to pick us up.
At the next stop some of us wanted to stay on the boat and they said it was the crews lunch break and we should all go ashore. I guess they didn’t want any of the chicke mush earlier, plenty of it was left over.
Towards the last few hours the crew looked like they had no idea what to do. They would ask us what to we wanted but had very little idea what the options could be miles off shore with limited time. Because no one was really enjoying themselves, crew our quests we ended up going in early an hour or so.

Remember we capsized when coming back with over 1000$ in lost goods, luckily very little physical harm. Wendy made a minimal offer of a couple 100$ refund and said we had signed wavers releasing them from liability.

UNSAFE and disappointing!

Never had an accident in the 3.5 years we have had the boat. I was told by the booking guest this was a non-drinking tour. We have had these in the past and put away the alcohol. Unfortunately one of your group, who is a southwest airlines steward, saw the alcohol and helped him self. He was very combative with the crew, would not listen to requests to sop helping himself to the galley. New rule in place, if someone is caught helping them self to the bar, they will be cut off. If a person, such as your nephew gets unruly, the trip will be over. No money returned. Not understanding that you did not realize that some one was very intoxicated in your group. You guys also left a very nice tip, and wanted it back after your nephew spilled the boat.

Celebrated our friends 50th in Costa Rica and spent the day sailing and snorkeling with Wendy and her crew! The day was absolutely magical with the sail out to a private beach for snorkeling where the crew did a BBQ of fish and chicken along with the best bean salad I have ever had! Lots of fish and sea turtles! The boat crew was so accommodating and kept our drinks flowing all day. Thank you to Wendy, Dan and the guys for an amazing day on the water!

We were lucky to have only our family of 3 and 2 other people on the boat, other than the crew. We had such a relaxing day and the crew was great. The snacks and open bar were wonderful! Our son learned to snorkel and loved it! The color of the water and beaches were beautiful! Gracias, Wendy and crew!
