Freddy is amazing! I don’t know why it has taken so long to write this review. My 40th birthday in Oct 2019 was great. He is pleasant, friendly, extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. We planned to just do the Arenal Day trip but he did round trip transfers from the airport for us at a reasonable rate. He offered to be our tour guide for any other activity around Guanacaste we wanted to do as well. The Arenal Day trip was great. The country is beautiful and we enjoyed all stops along the way. Especially the waterfall and lunch at Cafe Macadamia. The food was delicious. The only downside was we did not get the full excursion as the heavy rain prevented us from making it to the rain forest which was disappointing but we extended our time at the resort to enjoy the hot springs and we still had amazing views of the Arenal Volcano. I would highly recommend Costa Rica Private Tours.

We spend 3 full days with Freddy exploring different areas of Costa Rica (and Nicaragua) and it was absolutely amazing. Freddy is very knowledgeable, friendly and will make sure you get the most out of any tour you book with him. He is very punctual and professional but at the same time very laid back, flexible and understanding- no request or question we had was too much for him. We booked the Nicaragua day trip, the Palo Verde tour and the Arenal Volcano tour and all three were fantastic. I recommend you book as many tours with Freddy as you can, in order to get the most out of you vacation.

My family of 4 just returned from Planet Hollywood and spent 2 days with Freddy . Our first day we did the Boriquen tour which was so fun, beautiful scenery, horseback riding, zip lining and hot springs/ mud bath. The second day we went to a secondary rainforest and were able to see red dart frogs, sloths , birds and many different wildlife. This was followed up by a lunch and a visit to llanos del Cortez waterfall which was breathtaking. Freddy is very knowledgeable and friendly, we thoroughly enjoyed both days with him and would highly recommend him.

My boyfriend and I planned a very last minute trip to Costa Rica for a few days. Right before we were leaving I did a little bit of research and that is how I am across Freddy and Costa Rica Private Tours. I sent Freddy an email with my contact information and he called me within the hour and we started planning our days with him. To say he is knowledgable is an understatement. It felt like Freddy knew everything and everyone in Costa Rica. He asked us what we wanted to do and see and made some suggestions. We ended up taking the Borinquen Adventure Tour and Beach and ATV Tour. My only regret was not staying longer to explore more with Freddy. The Borinquen Adventure Tour is about an hour from Liberia. The resort itself is just beautiful. We did the canopy (zip-lining) tour here. The best part is as you are zip lining down the mountain you have this beautiful waterfall as your backdrop. The team that takes you up and brings you down are all very professional. After zip-lining, Freddy brought us over to the natural sauna to open our pours before we headed to the mud baths. Finally, we got to relax in the natural hot springs. I'm not sure if it was because we visited between Thanksgiving and Christmas but no one was there which just made it that more relaxing. The lunch that was served was also great. On our way back to the hotel, Freddy made a stop for us at Tio Leo's Coffee. Not only was their coffee delicious, their chocolate was to die for! The next day, we did the beach and ATV tour with Freddy. The first beach we stopped at was Playa La Penca. It was about 30 minutes from our hotel. Once again, there were only a handful of people on the beach and it was just beautiful. The water is crystal clear and the sand was a mixture of black and white. Next we headed over to Flamingo Beach which was all white sand. It was interesting seeing how the sand changed due to volcanic ash from just a short ride away. Our ATV tour took place right after. Our guide was great and the ATVs were so much fun. A lot of the roads aren't paved in Costa Rica so we were able to get to some secluded beaches that would have been hard with a regular car. Make sure to spend some time at Pirate's cove. There is also a little shake you can grab a quick bite and a beer. Our final stop was in Tamarindo. Freddy gave us a great recommendation to eat on the beach and we got to spend some time swimming. It was very entertaining watching all the surfers. We can't wait to come back and explore more with Freddy. I can't recommend him enough.

We found Freddy by chance while sifting through all of the trip advisor reviews of different tour companies. We were looking for a very specific private tour guide, and wanted to avoid any sort of tourist trap or commercialized version of beautiful Costa Rica. I cannot put into words how grateful I feel to have come across Freddy and his crew, and how truly lucky we are that we did. Prior to finding Freddy, our hotel had tried booking us for 3 days (going down our list of things we wanted to see and do during our week stay) on extremely expensive excursions. We made the reservations but were so sticker shocked at the prices. We decided to do a little further research. What we found was astounding. For example, when I told our concierge that we wanted to go hike and explore the Rincon de la Vieja area, they told us that the park entrance fee was going to be an additional $50pp, so an additional $200 for our family of 4 on top of the tour fee of $185/pp —multiply that by 3 days! Crazy! Especially considering that when I did my online research, I found that park entrance fees are $15 and kids under 12 or only $5! I knew right away I needed to find our own tour guide outside of the hotel, and quickly cancelled. Enter Freddy. I contacted him right away after the hotel fiasco and told him what we were looking for. He immediately responded with a personalized package that would work exactly for we wanted, no paying extra for anything we didn’t want, and even got us a few discounts on some entrance fees using his company name. And his tour prices were much more reasonable. I have no problem paying for someone’s time and expertise. Just please, don’t take advantage of me just because I’m a tourist! It made me livid to learn that the hotel tour company tried to rip us off for the same services. We ended up booking two full days of tours with Freddy (we were already taken advantage of on the first tour). The first tour date we wanted with Freddy, he was already booked on another tour. But he sent along his awesome compadre, Alex, who took us up to Borinquen for an epic day of zip lining, horseback riding, and natural hot springs and mud baths. Alex was punctual for the first tour, and was extremely friendly. He was very knowledgeable in many of the local animals, plants and vegetation. We made many stops along the way to look at landmarks and learn about the local vegetation and wildlife. He led us on horseback and explained to us about the natural hot springs. He was extremely patient and let us take our time to enjoy the Borinquen resort. Zip lining was awesome at Borinquen. We have zip lined before in other locations (Jamaica and Hawaii) but this was by far our favorite. I’ll expand on that a little further down. On our way back, we asked him to take us to a local restaurant, as we didn’t want to eat another meal at the hotel and he took us to his brother’s restaurant just outside Liberia. We had some awesome filet en salsa a la diabla, benado de camarones traditional red snapper with shrimp in tomato sauce and our kids enjoyed the Arroz con pollo. What a treat! The second tour day, Freddy picked us up from the hotel, but when he got out of the car, he was limping! I felt awful, but he had gotten into a motorcycle accident the night before! (Thankfully he didn’t break anything and was wearing a helmet, but still, quite a scare.) But because he knew what we had been through with our hotel tour situation, he didn’t want to let us down, and still showed up! That is how much dedication Freddy has to his customers. We had never met him in person before, but we had already built a rapport from our previous conversations. It instantly made me feel that he was there to take care of us and was looking out for us from beginning to end. Thankfully, he brought along Christian, who is actually a forest ranger for the Costa Rican government, and was an expert on the land at and around the Rincon de la Vieja, which is where we were headed that day (Freddy is very well connected)! Christian was actually one of the original researchers and planners for the national park, so we couldn’t have gotten a more well versed tour guide for the day. We learned so much on our tour and really got to know both Freddy and Christian very well, like family. We had missed one of the waterfalls I wanted to see the other day, so he happily took us to Ilanos de Cortez and some wetlands to go bird watching, and even snuck in a peak of a crocodile at dusk in the Rio Tempisque. We basically wanted to hire a private tour guide to take us around and see as much of the natural beauty of Guanacaste province and eat as much local food as possible, and be free to explore by ear, not be tied to a tour bus schedule. Freddy did not disappoint. At the end of a long day of hiking and chasing waterfalls, again, we asked Freddy to take us to an authentic Costa Rican restaurant and as it turns out, Freddy owns and runs a spectacular restaurant on the way to coco beach called Loma Linda where we had a fabulous whole sea bass with a white shrimp sauce, some awesome octopus tacos, the best ceviche we’ve had all week, and a healthy portion of filet mignon. We were stuffed. We got to know Freddy so well and ended the day on such a high note. I don’t know how much more I can rave about Freddy and his team, but I can say, they were the highlight of our trip. Rather than renting our own car, getting lost or worse, a flat fire on all of the bumpy rocky roads, we got an insanely memorable experience because we had the best tour guides to show us around their home country, and explain to us what we were looking at! We couldn’t have asked for a better trip to Costa Rica, and we owe it all to Freddy, Alex and Christian. Oh, one thing I wanted to caution you, when asking for zip lining tours or adventure tours, here’s what I learned. You’ll hear about Buena Vista —it’s very close to Borinquen, but be aware of this: Buena Vista caters to tourists (think adult Disneyland) They also have zip lining, mud baths and a water slide, but if you want natural hot springs and mud springs, know that Buena Vista uses propane tanks, not natural springs from the ground. Borinquen is on private property and uses only the natural resources of the mud springs. You can literally see the bubbling spewing mud from the ground. Also, they offer horseback riding up to the zip lines on the cutest horses. We’ve been horseback riding all our lives, but these guys, you can truly tell the horses are happy there. They aren’t chained up all their lives, they don’t just follow the horse in front of them, their personalities truly shine, and you can just feel how happy their horses are. So at the end of the day, If you don’t need to ride the dangerous water slide down, and don’t want propane run mud baths, and want the quiet natural experience, see toucans and green iguanas just hanging out on treetops, I would opt for Borinquen over Buena Vista. BV is cheaper, and so the tour companies benefit from bringing tourists there. You’ll find bus loads of tourists pulling into Buena Vista. If that’s your deal, go for it! But if you want peaceful, serene, breathtaking zip lines over an insane waterfall and canyons, and natural mud baths, call Freddy and have him take you to Borinquen. One last note, if you are planning a long term epic trip to Costa Rica, Freddy doesn’t only do one day tours. He also does airport pick ups, from both Liberia and San Jose, and he also does 7, 9, and 12 days tours all around the country starting out of San Jose, at very reasonable prices, with or without hotel included. Your choice. Ask him for more info! He can take all the stress out of planning your trip, and you’ll be in the best hands. Thank you for EVERYTHING Freddy!! You showed us the true meaning of Pura Vida. We are already planning our next trip, and we will absolutely be calling Freddy again.
