Hidden Garden Art Gallery
A haven for the arts since 2010, the Hidden Garden Art Gallery offers quality original art in many mediums. HG is the largest of its kind in Guanacaste, more than 60 artists on exhibit, and 15 rooms full of paintings, sculptures and diverse artistic expressions. The gallery has 3,500 square feet of wall space, and more than 400 pieces on display. Rooms are coordinated by styles, ranging from geometric abstraction, to typical art, to underwater images. The Gallery is also home to the permanent exhibits of our resident artist Carlos Hiller underwater scenes, Susan Adams, Rebeca Alvarado Soto and many more. Our location, designed with a marvelous architecture, is the perfect setting for our cultural center. Our mission is to strengthen and heighten local artists' works and share the beauty and culture of Costa Rica.

Great collection at excellent prices. My family and I had some extra time before our flight, and we decided to stop at this art gallery rather than hang around the airport. Glad we did. We bought Ulises oil painting we will enjoy in our living room.

We met Greg and Charlene. Greg quickly wrapped and packed the 28x40 canvas for us in a tube, and we had no issues carrying it onboard the aircraft.

Specializing in artistic expression of Costa Rica, the Hidden Garden Art Gallery should not be overlooked. Whatever your tastes in art, the Hidden Gallery has something from a local artist to suit your needs. Owners Greg and Charlene Golojuch are wonderful hosts and curators of this collection.

A unique place. Full of art work and a variety of interesting things. On Saturdays find a most unusual market place: upscale specialty foods, handmade crafts, eco-friendly mosquito repellent, home- made goat cheese, organically grown vegetables and more. You never know what else might be going on a given day: from live music performed by talented local musicians representing a variety of music styles, folkloric dancers, well-known performers... All set in a bucolic setting: the building itself is unique in the type of construction and very attractive, there is a pond with live ducks, two stately looking and very friendly dogs, lush vegetation and ample parking space. The artworks represent a variety of medium and styles: the permanent exhibit of Argentinean-born local resident Carlos Hiller whose specialty is underwater scenes which vividly conveys his love of life, the ocean and its infinite variety of creatures that he captures both whimsically and realistically in his canvas. Carlos Hiller is also a well-known muralist who has donated a number of murals for the embellishment of public buildings and has been commissioned to do work for large hotels. His current project is painting a mural on an airplane. He often shares pictures of his work-in-progress in Facebook where you can follow him. Another artist with works in the gallery is Diego Mejia, a Costa Rican photographer who does impressive nature work and specializes in underwater photography. His work is also in great demand and he has participated in shootings for international documentaries. Guadalupe Urbina, Guanacastes's par excellence representative of the woman in art, who paints, composes, sings and leads the way for others to do so as well. Oscar Lios, whose nudes are tastefully done, specializes in portraits although he also does landscapes and other types of paintings. There are exhibits of more esoteric paintings such as those by Chilean artist Paula Riveros whose philosophical insights are depicted in her work. Currently, the work of Edwar Herreño in a collection titled "Mysterious Cocos Island”. And many more artists.
How do I know all this? Because I am a frequent visitor and great fan of the Hidden Garden. I find that this is a place where culture lives and where you can find like-minded individuals with whom to share a cup of coffee and an interesting chat in beautiful surroundings.
If you are looking to purchase art (they ship around the world), view it for its enjoyment, are in search of books to read from their free book exchange, or simply want a pleasant time in good company, the Hidden Garden is the place. If you are local, you are likely to run into other locals (Tico or foreign residents) and if you are visiting the area, this is a great place to meet interesting folks and share in the culture of Guanacaste and its people!!

My husband and I love to collect art work from every place we visit around the world. We always try to buy local art that tells a story about the local culture and its people. We accidentally stumbled upon the Hidden Art Gallery while driving, and we were so happy that we did.The gallery is very large, and offers a large variety of art, for all different budgets and styles (we are both teachers so traveling and buying on a budget is important). The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Being just a short drive from the LIberia airport, it's very conveniently located. We both we highly recommend stopping by.

It's hard to believe we've only been traveling to Costa Rica for two years now (because it seems like home), but the Hidden Garden is absolutely one of our favorite spots. My fiance & I recently built a home in Hermosa Heights in nearby Playa Hermosa, and we make it a priority to stop by the Hidden Garden every time we visit (not to mention recommending it to all of our friends & family who come). We adore this place. The staff is friendly, the artwork is phenomenal, the grounds are beautiful -- it makes for a great afternoon. We have purchased several pieces there -- all of which we have fallen in love with. Most of the art we hung in our house in Costa Rica, but we brought one piece back here to the States. We've purchased pieces by L Susan Adams, Carlos Hiller, Oscar Lios, Ulises Jimenez Obreon and Elizabeth Watson. The collection is diverse, something for everyone. I haven't run into anyone who hasn't enjoyed a visit to this place. It was also great meeting people at the Saturday Vendor Fair.

Stumbled upon this gallery while on a day trip from our cruise to see a friend. We had been looking for some new artwork and didn't find what we wanted on the ship. To our amazement (because it seemed to be kind of in the middle of nowhere) Hidden Garden had a great selection of art, both original and prints at very affordable prices. The resident artist, Carlos Hiller, paints mostly underwater scenes but does some jungle visas as well. We bought a large original canvas for $850 which he embellished on the spot by adding two frogs at our request.

In addition to Hiller's work, several other artists are represented with a number of contemporary and abstract pieces that we loved. It was a great find for us and was managed by some very nice and friendly people. If we are ever in the area again, we are sure to return!

Our intention when we first stopped at the Hidden Art Gallery was to take a quick walk in their beautiful garden and stretch our legs before proceeding with our tour of the area. Instead we managed to spend over an hour browsing through the art exhibits both inside and outside the gallery. A return visit the following day resulted in the purchase of two oil paintings by a local artist. Staff members were more than accommodating in arranging for the shipment and crating of these two rather large paintings to be shipped back to our home. They were very conscientious in following up with information on the progress of the shipment. We are pleased to report that both painting have a new home in Alberta, Canada. We are looking forward to a return visit to the gallery on our next trip to Costa Rica!

This kind of hip spot in between Liberia and the airport has acade as part of the building with light lunches available. There are several rooms of paintings by local artists most of which are for sale well worth a couple of hours and a lunch stop.

Visiting here I felt that I was wandering through an open-air gallery. Having a degree in art and a life-long habit of visiting museums and such, I was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of artwork here. The prices generally range from about $125 to several thousand (US). Considering the talent here, I'd say the prices are realistic and sometimes low. For bargain chasers, there are some unframed prints, as well as a few tee shirts, mouse pads and the like. Absolutely NO pressure here - very pleasant hosts who let you wander the various rooms at your own pace.
