Managed to get here for a couple of free days at the end of a bikepack tour of Costa Rica for some kiting. Strong winds each day with friendly staff and good equipment. We had an incident (not kite related) that required some stiches and Kent (the owner) drove us to the hospital and helped us through the whole process. The restaurant serves good food but there's cooking equipment in the cabanas if you want to diy. Rooms were simple but comfortable and clean.

All the guys were really nice and helpful. Always watching and supervising the beach and people in the water (even just the gear rental customers). I totally lost the visual contact with my board once while bodydragging and one of the guys showed up in several minutes and help me to find my board and saved me long walk and swim back to the beach. Hassle-free & cashless experience. Thanks. 🙏

Kiteboarding Costa Rica is placed at the tip of the lagoon of Playa Copal - a great place to kite board and hang out in the kite house or one of the cabinas.
I was here this February and March for kiting, rented full equipment which was in good condition. The teachers and staff are very helpful and chilled, there is a nice good vibes atmosphere and endless kite boarding talk ;-) - probably the best place to kite in Costa Rica.
You need to note that they don't serve any breakfast or lunch - so either you buy your own food prior to arrival or if you have a car then there is a small convenience store a few minutes drive away, or you can drive to La Cruz which takes you about 40 min.
There is also a very delicious restaurant 10min walk away - Plaza Copal - that serves food from 8:00 - 20:00. You can access it via the beach in a short walk.

I booked with a friend around 10 days in this kitesurfing place after email exchanges with Lucie. While arriving we had no welcoming from the staff. We went to the room which was so ugly. The worst was the bunked beds, so old, without a ladder so I could not climb on the upper bed. The mattresses of both beds were awfull, so soft that we could feel the bedsprings or the floor (since we had to put one mattress on the floor). We went to the common place/room to have something to eat but there were very few options and nothing nice. The place was not really friendly. Then we tried to speak to Kent about the beds and mattresses but he did not care about it . So I put the upper mattress on the floor and none of us slept during the night and we both woke up with back pain. We finally met Lucie and we explained the issue but she did not try to improve anything. She said that they were renting this accommodation to someone else and so they could not do anything. This was not my problem, if someone is outsourcing part of a service, he/she should make sure that this is aligned with the service people are paying for. They should have had at least change the beds and mattresses. Then we say we could not sleep anymore there or we would have ended at the hospital for back contractures. In the end she did not reimburse the following nights we booked.
I travelled a lot in hostel and guest hourses including for kitesurfing and never had such bad experience.
In addition the kitesurfing spot was really not nice with gusty wind. Water was cold and required a wet suit although Lucie mentionned to us before that it wasn't. There are rays so need to be careful. There are really better places to kitesurf.

Hi,
I am quite choked to read this. I am so sorry you feel/felt this way. My Husband, Kent, owner of the Kite school Kiteboarding costa rica, and one of our instructor personally came to welcome you at the cabinas, late, carying your lugages, after one of our friend, Carole, gave you a free ride from La Cruz (13km). Unfortunately Kent couldn t do nothing the same night after hearing about the mastresses you found not hard enough, we coudn t do anything because everything was booked..but the next morning after i saw you and welcome you and apologised, I offered you an entire beach house the time we get you another cabina, You refused, infact you already booked somewhere else and moved your lugage there...., at our kite competitor and you lied telling me you will not be kiting you will go to Cuajiniquil, another Bay!,, you asked me to refund but i couldn t...policy is the way it is after check in there is no refund. And we were doing our best to accomodate you. You can see, with all the other reviews, that we are a wecloming kite family who just try to make everyone’s stay enjoyable... and the wind was good, it was sunny and beautiful in our Bay... i am truly sorry you didn t enjoy it like others did...

I drove a rental car from San Jose, to Jaco, then to La Cruz in my short visit to Costa Rica the 5th-10th. Out of those five days I spent four at the kite house of Costa Rica Kiteboarding.
When I arrived at the kite house. Which is a town house that over looks the bay and is 25 meters to the beach; I realized the potential for nights with great conversations, kite, stories, and revelry. The instructors sleep in one side, while students in the other. It's set up perfectly for interaction with the instructors and your peers. Which when learning or wanting to progress in kiteboarding is absolutely amazing.
Apparently, I was the first visitor of the season and this is when I met Daniel, who is one of the kite house's instructors. Daniel is very knowledgable in the sport and I know this because I myself am a kiteboard instructor in Florida. We had some conversations and would give one another pointers and tips on how we do things, which in kiting is how we grow. To ask questions to a international kite instructor who could share his wisdom was awesome.
The conditions were consistent the first three days... Windy... I arrived at 1 pm and shortly after, I pumped up my 11m Bandit and went for a ride. I kited for close to an hour before the wind slacked off so I took a break. I did pump up my 14m bandit and went back out for 2 hours until sunset. The next two days I had 6-8 hour sessions power up on my 11m practicing transitions, tricks, and zipping out to the remote island about 3 kilometers off shore. Near the beach, island, and reefs there's some flat water which is easier to manage then the chop of the bay. On the third day I was over powered on my 11 and was wishing I would have brought either an 8 or a 9. Even the owner of Costa Rica Kiteboarding, Kent came out and threw some tricks on the third day! Not too shabby, Kent. ;) The final day I was comfortable on my 11 before the rain and clouds came which then killed the session unfortunately.
Now that I'm back in the states waiting for wind, I know that Costa Rica has some. If you are looking to learn to Kiteboard, polish your skills, or just want an amazing kite trip with friends; check out Costa Rica kiteboarding. My experience was wonderful and I can't wait to go back.
I want to give a special thanks to Kent, Lucie, Daniel, Damien, Carol, and Chris for making this trip a truly great experience and standing for what kiteboarding and the community is all about.
Cheers

Very close to the beach. Nuking wind. Bunk and private room accommodations that are rudamentary but great for budget travelers. The staff is very responsive if you need things. Amazing instructors who are very professional and helpful. The attached restaurant is fun with cheap and good food.

Perfect for seasoned kiteboarding traveller, consistent strong winds, basic clean functional accommodation with some killer views. Idea for beginner and developing kite boarders with good consistent conditions and seemingly good instructors. For waves there are some on 7M days and down especially at high tide down at the mouth of the bay to Eco Playa and inside the bay its self. For flat water fans with twin tips low tide behind the island group up wind of launch has lost to offer and tons of room.

It's all about the people, right? I can tell you this place has wind every day, or the views are spectacular or the rooms have hammocks on the front porch or that they only use the newest Cabrinha kites and Crazy Fly boards or the sunsets from a nearby beach are to dye for. But it's the people that make it. And here the staff are the best. You become part of the family and feel at home right away. Greeted by Izabela you are welcomed to your new digs. The instructors (Max, Daniel and Damien) are friendly and highly trained and professional. Lucie can help you from everything to renting a car or planning an outing. And Kent is there to answer all your kiteboarding queries! And one of the best parts for me was the kiters that you meet from all over the world sharing the same passion. Fun people with interesting stories. WOW. What a place. Can't wait to come back. Thanks KBCR team😎😃🎉

Kent and Lucie were such great people! Aside from being great hosts and running an excellent business, they are fun loving and caring people who seem to really enjoy what they do. Aside from taking care of all our kiting and accommodation needs, they also hung out with us at night and made us feel like part of the family.

After a week at The Bike House we shifted into kite mode, and set up in Cabina 7 overlooking the pool and the bay. Excellent location. Rooms are very clean and have the basics for cooking if you choose to go to town and buy your own groceries. We choose to do the meal plan after we experienced Ramon's cooking in the restaurant overlooking the Bahia Salinas. 3 excellent healthy meals a day for $30 was a bargain. Fresh cut up fruit to lobster dinners and didn't have to wash one dish all week. Ramon was so friendly and hospitable, he offered up lot's of variety over the week. We had big winds every day and learned how to survive big gusts on little kites, my wife was not as lucky because she is to small and couldn't sail for 3 of the days. She did try the 3.5m one afternoon but it was super twitchy and not enjoyable for her. So we took the day off the water and headed back to Bikehouse, only 10 min up the road, we rode up to the El Chaguite hill top overlooking Bahia Salinas, it was a fun compromise! The kite equipment and staff are excellent at the Kite House, Francesco, the helper dude on the beach is amazing. He is always smiling and helpful with selecting kite sizes, launching landing etc. Our last day was incredible, the winds settled down a bit and my wife sailed all day on a 6m. Our whole group sailed out the island and back, and played around for hours, seeing all kinds of fish and turtles as we sailed about. Overall I had a great kiting experience. I have kited in several places, Turks, Cuba, SPI TX, and have not had wind for days on end, so if you want to decrease your chances of getting skunked I would highly recommend Kite board Costa Rica. We will be back for sure. Cheers
