My boyfriend and I are in our early 30s and often hike and trail run. We set out with trail trainers and a litre or so of water each in our backpacks. The weather was dry (until you get up into the cloud) and we were extremely glad for that, as in the wet I think we would have really... More

What a hike! Expect to get dirty, hope to get lucky. We set out in the rain, arrived exhausted and dirty to thick fog and hung around half an hour to see the volcano show up through the mist and eventually even had sunshine down at the lake. The climb down, as others have mentioned, is another experience altogether, very... More

We started from AOL (took a shuttle from a gentleman named Arturo, info can be seen on the AOL site, and if you call AOL they wil give you Arturo's phone number). $8 pp for the shuttle, and $10 pp for entrance to AOL. This is not a cheap country. It was cloudy when we started, so unfortunately didn't get... More

My husband and I decided to go on this hike the first day of honeymoon. It was tough and muddy and we slipped a few times but all the challenges just made it even more awesome when we finished. Our guide Augusto was great! He was personable and informative and made us feel safe. My suggestions if I had to... More

This is an amazing walk but only attempt it if the weather is ok (not raining) and you are properly equipped. We are both regular walkers in our early sixties and it took us two hours to scramble from the lodge to the top. It took us longer to get down and this reflected the steep muddy ascent. Like any... This is an amazing although quite challenging hike. I can only recommend this to people who have experience hiking. Bring plenty of water, snacks, swim suit, rain jacket, and hiking boots. We are in great shape and was pushed to the max of our fitness level. We had a rainy day which led to some slippery footing so make sure... More

fyi...the full hike up one side of cerro chato and down the other is very very tough. more of climb than a hike. quite steep on both sides with lots of roots and mud. you really must be in goid shape and able to climb for 2 1/2 hours uphill. once up top you hike down to the crater Lake... More

We didn't do a great deal of research or planning before making the somewhat last minute decision to ascend Cerro chatto after our trip to the waterfall... we started from the green lagoon hotel and luckily had good waterproof hiking shoes and water with us (but no food!). We also rather foolishly started the ascent at midday when it was... More

The hike to the top (and down to the lake) of Cherro Chato is amazing! It is nothing for totally unsportive people, as it is very steep and exhausting. But if you make it, it is so worth it! You can see a lot of hummingbirds on the first and easy part as well as other birds. Starting the part... More

Challenging hike with a relatively flat start. We started at 8am the climb and the weather turned sour just before reaching the summit. Consequence, poor visibility and NO view at all for the Laguna Verde. Schedule a 3.5 to 5-hour hike depending on your pace. Be careful, some parts are not for beginners and need extra precaution due to the... More
