Not far to the East is the Caribbean, which brings in humidity that helps nurture our farm's intense biodiversity. In Aquiares, you will be able to explore forests that hold 79 species of birds, learn all about coffee, indulge in gourmet Costa Rican food, and be a part of our friendly community. We offer bespoke experiences that focus on coffee education, nature exploration and rural community engagement. We booked a 9am tour, and struggled a bit to find the location. We were outside of the property, but a sign on the gate said no entry. Fortunately, one of the horse handlers ushered us in. It turned out Trip Advisor somehow informed Celia, our guide for the tour that we had booked 1pm (I’m not trying to sound shady or sarcastic, she showed us her confirmation - so maybe it was that we’d booked the night before and it got confused). Anyway, Celia was adorable, super apologetic, and arrived within 15 minutes of us calling to let her know we were there. It worked out brilliantly, as we got the chance to have a wander, and relax in the stunning garden of the property owned by one of the plantation owners. After coffee (obviously) we were introduced to our horses and Kalin (sp.), the horse handler who led us on the tour. We’re not horsey people, but it was a really nice walk (not the most comfortable, I’ll admit, but it would have been absolutely shattering to walk it on foot), and Celia is very knowledgeable, and the stories behind the community, its founders and how it works today are all very interesting. We never felt like there was a time limit, or we were being rushed to finish. There was a no pressure side trip to the small gift shop (we bought coffee and local chocolate). It honestly felt like a friend had showed us round where they work, and I was actually quite sad when we left.

Right from the start I knew this was going to be special. Denise, my contact for the tour options was very friendly and informative. We took the 4 hour horseback ride to the waterfall, through the farm and the coffee processing plant. Also visited the historic church in the property that is nearly 100 years old. Célia our guide was very friendly and knew a lot of the property, history, coffee process and was quick to share. We ended our tour at La Esperanza, the old hacienda house of the original owners for food and fantastic coffee. In the end the tour was so relaxed and easy going that it felt more like a group of friends sharing a evening at the farm. Highly recommended!!!

Thank you Daniel for your review and your interest in Aquiares :) You discovered our coffee in a coffee shop in San José and you came to meet us in Aquiares to learn about how we produce our coffee! Now I know you will think about your experience here when you will drink Aquiares coffee and I hope you will enjoy it! Do not hesitate to come back and we will do the cupping, and we also could go to pick coffee or roast some beans! It was a pleasure meeting you. Cualquier cosa, estoy para servirles. Saludos!

We really recommend this tour. We had the chance to be the only two persons within the group and had a more than 2 hours fantastic tour with Andrew. He started explaining the history of the region while putting Aquiares in this context. We had a short tour in the property and the plantation. We then moved to the industry and how the coffee is being processed, and finished with a tasting of natural and honey coffee from the farm.
Andrew is very knowledgeable on coffee topics and we could ask all the questions we had.

Very informative tour. The tour guide has a lot of knowledge of coffee making. We were astonished how many steps are necessary for getting a cup of coffee.
Highly recommended to take THIS tour.

We loved our tour of the farm, my daughter especially loved riding the horses, who were very well cared for and easy to ride. The end of the tour at the hacienda with coffee and cake was perfect, the setting is amazing. We only wish we would have booked a stay at the hacienda because it was so nice.

We did the horseback riding tour, which was lovely. The Aquiares waterfall was a highlight (bring your swim suit if you want to take a dip!). Our guides were super friendly and shared so much information. The seating at the restaurant afterwards was breathtaking. I wish we could have stayed for lunch!

An amazing tour where you learn a lot about coffee.

The guide Andrew is very passionate and enthusiastic. He guided us through the complete process and told us so many thing, you think differently next time you drink coffee. Now coffee tastes so much better then before.

Overall a very good experience and worth while to have this experience as part of your vacation to Costa Rica
