This was a great way to spend a couple of hours. The farm is family run and has been past down generation to generation. The farm is quite small and we were able to walk around leisurely (would be suitable for those who are perhaps not so mobile). We were taught lots about the various trees and plants in the farm including sugar cane, pineapple, cinnamon, pepper, lemon grass, star fruit, oranges, bananas before looking at the cocoa and coffee trees. We learnt a lot about the ecosystem of the farm and the importance of various animals such as bats and termites in maintaining the balance. At the end of the trip we got to try the coffee and chocolate. Before we went we hadn’t had lunch but we got fed so much in the tour it wasn’t necessary for us to have lunch afterwards. We booked easily with a days notice and the owner provided much enthusiasm and expert knowledge. Well worth doing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour at Don Olivo’s. Minor and his family were so welcoming, and the tour was very informative, not to mention, delicious. We were expecting a chocolate tour so the abundance of tropical fruits, spices, sugarcane juice and wildlife spotting was an added bonus! The chocolate is obviously top notch too. We ended up being the only group on the tour as tourism is still pretty light in the area. Please come support this amazing family run farm & tour!

This was probably one of the most authentic tours we have ever been on. My husband absolutely loved it. Minor, the owner was a fantastic guide/host. His dad kept serving us delicious fruits while Minor showed us around his amazing plantation. This is a family who is clearly passionate about what they do and loves sharing their passion with strangers and visitors like us. It is an absolute must to visit them if you are ever in the area ⭐️

A delightful tour that filled our bellies with the freshest fruits and drinks. We learned a new way to eat oranges, had salted avocado off the tree, made sugar can syrup and drank it, ground chocolate and drank the freshest pour over coffee possible. Highly recommend, have an empty stomach and bug repellent. They prefer cash, but take cards and have reasonably priced merchandise at the end of the tour. They also have bathrooms and speak English.

*Covid: Everyone had masks, places to wash hands. Totally outside.

Really nice family run farm/tour situation. Not just about chocolate, you get to walk through the whole farm sampling fruits and learning about Costa Rican life.

One of the sons did our tour and he had so much information to share that was really interesting. They let you try coffee and all sorts after the tour.

Only slight negative is the chocolate and coffee to buy afterwards was really expensive but I'd hope it's going straight to the people that make it so didn't feel too bad.

I can not recommend this farm visit highly enough- as foodies, it was our favourite activity in La Fortuna. We didn’t have a hire car, but it was a very easy and cheap Uber ride away.
The whole family were so warm and welcoming. The farm itself is a beautiful, biodiverse plantation, grown using traditional and sustainable methods.
Although it’s mainly a cocoa plantation, the tour also includes (lots!) of tropical fruits, and some herbs and spices, which we loved.

Would highly recommend don Olivio for a coffee, chocolate, fruit, and sugar cane tour all rolled into one. The tour is set on a family’s own farm and teaches about growing fruit, herbs, coffee and veggie. You’ll start off with fruit trees and delicious samples of banana, pineapple, papaya. In the middle of the tour you see the sugar cane growing, and get to practice churning the cane for juice. Then you get to taste the pure ca me juice, and cooked cane candy, and rum made onsite. Toward the end of the tour, you see the coffee and chocolate plants growing and learn about the full process of fermenting, roasting, and preparing final products for both. The tour ends with a tasting of homemade chocolate, homemade got chocolate, coffee, and some biscuits in the family’s garden patio and then a chance to purchase any snacks or souvenirs to take home. Would highly recommend as an all in 1 tour and you’ll have a very personalized family type experience as well!

What an amazing tour! The chocolate tour was so much fun and you also learn about so many other fruits, vegetables, seeds, and also coffee while you're touring. We were able to try several of the home grown fruits: oranges, pineapple, and papaya.
My guide was super animated and knowledgeable, and while I didn't have my own children with me, he really made it fun for the little ones. Totally worth it and the chocolate is delicious!

This tour was wonderful- the tour guide was one of the family members of the farm and was very knowledgeable and passionate about the many fruits, herbs, coffee, and of course cacao they grow. Very informative, lots of tastings and even went out of his way to show us a toucan when he heard one nearby. Definitely worth taking this tour!

We had a great time at the Don Olivo Chocolate Tour. Our guide was super knowledgeable and showed us all the fruits, spices, coffee and cacao plants in their beautiful plantations, with lots of interesting insight into Costa Rican biodiversity. We only had a small lunch before our tour which was good as we were really well fed with lots of fruits, coffee and chocolate. Would highly recommend.
