We loved this hanging bridges park and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to see wildlife in their natural habitat. We saw soooo many monkeys swinging in the canopy throughout the trees and climbing up vines! It was incredible. You just have to be quiet....if you/your group is too loud the wildlife will not get close to you. The bridges are gorgeous and the views of the Volcano in the beginning are amazing! Can't beat it!

We only got rain for about 30 minutes and then it cleared up. Definitely recommend wearing close toed shoes/hiking boots that are waterproof it you can. And wearing a rain jacket throughout if you are going during rainy season.

Note, the ideal way of touring this park is via tour. A tour guide will be able to point out animals/snakes/insects as you are walking through the park. However, since we had already done a couple tours in other parks, we decided to skip the tour and just enjoy the park. W/o the guide, it was fine but we almost missed seeing a snake that another group with a tour guide pointed out.
Regarldess, the key is to go in the morning when they first open so that you can avoid the crowd. If you get there after they open, you will be stuck with a large crowd and probably larger tours, taking away from experiencing nature. The beauty of the place is that you can hear the sounds of the rain forest and spot animals (if you are lucky). We still saw the key animals, monkeys not till the end of the hike. Just keep your eyes open and if you have binoculars, it will def. help in spotting animals.

The bridges though are extremely cool, and some scary for those afraid of heights (like my wief). However, they are extremely safe. If you are able to get there early, another benefit is that you can get some pictures on the bridges w/o crowds. Otherwise, you will find it hard to take pictures as you have a large volume of people coming in behind you.

There's climbing required if you want to walk through all bridges. However, there's also an easier option if you just want to do a small loop. When you check in at the counter, they explain all your options. Note though, you do need to buy tickets beforehand and have to show at the time on your ticket - this is how they control traffic to the park. We booked our tickets through the hotel.

You can go by yourself or with a guide. Time can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on where you want to go and what you want to see. There are several loops to the path, so you can cut your time short if you need/want to. But you won't want to. It's beautiful in this park!

About a Guide: There is an option to have a guide (added $$). We didn't take advantage of it and saw plenty of amazing things like a snake, a coati, birds, ants, etc. BUT I think we would have seen so much more if we'd been with a guide. I will say the guides in the park are VERY nice to those they see walking through without a guide and will point things out to you if you're near their group.

There are hills and the bridges so swing/bounce, so having good and stable walking shoes will help. There is also a cafe on site if you need some sustenance before or after your walk.

Our visit to the Hanging Bridges was well organised but the weather was foul. Normally January is a dryish month but not during our stay. We were soaked despite wearing ponchos. We did not take our I-phones as we had a good camera with us. We weren’t able to use the camera as it was too wet and an I-phone would have been ideal! It also turns out that the animals dislike the rain as much as humans so few were to be seen. On the other hand a group from the previous day saw lots of animals and we were simply unlucky.

This was the third place we had been in Costa Rica after being near Cahuita and Torteguero national parks. This included some trips with guides so we had a reasonable expectation of our visit to Mistico with guide.
It started off well with a good welcome by staff who found the booking, handed out tickets, said who our guide was to where to wait for him.
There were eight of us in our group with Victor at 8am which included a keen bird spotter. It started relatively okay with Victor pointing out a couple of birds. It started to go down hill when he explained that a bird he could hear could easily be beckoned by clapping his hands... and then he didn't.
After that it was mostly us asking about what we had spotted and asking him about it. The impression we and other people in our group got was that he couldn't be bothered with us.
We were accompanied by another chap who Victor explained was a photographer who would be taking photos of us and what we saw. At the end we had a very strange experience where we looked at the photos on his laptop which was on top of a bin outside the gents toilets. We paid our US$15 and hoped for the best. We did get the photos which were good.
We felt it was a waste of time.

Truly a spectacular place. We got there at 6am and did the guided walk with Donald, who was incredible and spotted so much wildlife we wouldn't have seen on our own, including snakes, mot mots, an anteater, a frog, and tarantulas.

I read mixed reviews about this park before coming here and because of that we were on the fence but I'm so glad we made the trip! I suspect the mixed reviews are from people who didn't do the guided walk and who weren't the first ones to get to the park. The guided walk is seriously worth it and is only $20 more than the cost of admission to the park. We wouldn't have had the experience we did without Donald.

As we were finishing our tour around 9am we saw tour buses pulling in and loads of people queuing up at the entrance, which looked like a nightmare. To get the most out of the trip, get there at 6am. We were the first ones on the bridges and didn't have to queue up for anyone. We took our time and took unobstructed photos. Had we got there at 9, I'm pretty sure we would've had an entirely different experience.

We came here while staying in the area and expected it to be a quick and cheesy excursion but it was really cool! We spent about an 90 minutes waking through the trails and bridges and even in the pouring rain it was really enjoyable (with solid umbrellas!). We also saw a family of monkeys closer than we’ve seen anywhere else right at the start. Very cool! I think it was $26 per adult

Saludos.

There is a good restaurant where you can get a full meal or just a snack or drink. We were walking along the paths for about 2 hours but you could take other paths to walk for longer. We saw quite a few birds etc in the grounds. The hanging bridges wobble a bit but there is a shorter route which avoids them. Some paths are a bit steep.

The Spider Monkey Canyoning is so much fun. The crew engaged each tour playing and teasing setting first timers at ease for sure. Super fun time, my next visit I’d like to spend more time at the park. The restaurant is nice, food is good. Views on Arenal are beautiful.

We spent 8 days in Costa Rica and one of the highlights was touring Mystico hanging bridges. We started at 7am on a Sunday and opted not to get a guide. We had the place to ourselves. Hiking in a rain forest all alone during a light rain was surreal. We didn't really see many animals till the end but just being there in the middle of the rainforest with all the green and vibrant was fabulous. At the end howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys put on a show for us. We decided to have breakfast there because it's so beautiful. Definitely put Mistico on your itinerary and go early to maximize the experience
