My family of 4 booked the night walk through an independent planner. We have kids aged 12 & 17. We arrived at 5:30 and unfortunately Jose was not expecting us - this was an error on the part of our planner, not Jose. He kindly had us wait for a few minutes and must have re-arranged his evening to take care of us. That was unexpected and we were incredibly appreciative. The hike around the eco garden lasted about 90 minutes and was interesting from the start. Jose is funny, kind and incredibly passionate about his project and the environment. We saw frogs, bugs, spiders, porcupine, sloth, birds, and caiman to name a few things. Jose was a master at photographing the red eyed tree frog. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the time and learned so much. At the end, we enjoyed fresh empanadas and great conversation with Jose. I highly recommend. We felt very safe in spite of COVID and were able to take our masks off while in the forest

Jose spent hours with us searching for little night creatures! We saw frogs, caymans, sloths, butterflies and more. And he took pictures for us, just with a light and our iPhone. This park is basically his back yard and he immediately made us feel welcome. He was very knowledgeable and clearly loves what he does. The tea and empanadas after our walk were so tasty. I would recommend this walk if you’re wondering what makes all that noise at night.

Jose is such a friendly and knowledgable man and picked us up from our hotel at Nayara Springs in La Fortuna and took us back at the end of the tours. We thoroughly enjoyed the night tour and sloth tour and were surprised to see so many creatures in the night tour from snakes, frogs, sleeping birds and howler monkeys. Jose's style is friendly, engaging and he explains things about nature in a easy and gentle way. He is really passionate about the environment and nature and ethical and this comes through when he talks to you. We did a sloth tour, bird tour and night walk with Ecogardens and had good experiences on each occasion. Even at the end of each tour he gave us tea and a little snack that his wife had prepared and we sat at a table and enjoyed this with him. This ecological park is close to La Fortuna and we recommend their tours for all ages, they are not difficult at all and transportation is provided. I would recommend wearing long hiking trousers and longer sleeves on the walks as I did get a few mosquito bites because my legs were exposed! Great photo opportunities are seen on this tour and I am pleased with my photos taken of the wildlife at a close distance and really surprised at how many birds and wildlife are seen during the night walk. Would recommend both the sloth walk and night tour. Please consider Ecogardens tours if you are looking around for tours that are genuine and respectful of all nature becasue there are some places in La Fortuna that promote petting of animals and seeing them close up in cages (some of which have been taken from the wild sadly). Ecogardens is a purely natural place that has wild animals in the trees and not in cages. They are ethical and have strong views about protecting nature and the environment. This really matters to me and was the main reason why I chose Ecogarden Arenal as I do not support any company that takes animals from the wild for tourism.
