We took a tour to Juan Castro Blanco NP with Jairo as our guide. If you want to get off the beaten path, for a good hike or birdwatching, this is a great tour! Less than 2 hours from Fortuna - We started at a local private reserve with it's own trails and a family run restaurant. The trails lead us right to the entrance of the the National Park. Its a new park with no facilities and rough trails, but the hike to Laguna Pozo Verde (an extinct volcano crater) was so worth it! Jairo was a knowledge guide, he helped us to find several lifer birds and arranged for lunch to be waiting for us when we returned from our long hike. Excellent trout lunch!

I booked Jacamar's Rincon de la Vieja National Park Guided Hike + Liberia City Tour through mytanfeet.com. With the discount, the price for two people was USD 216.95 (CAD 308.14). The tour was for myself and my partner. Book with mytanfeet.com was a breeze. Their response time is quick, and their emails are friendly and easy to understand. I highly recommend using mytanfeet.com when going to Costa Rica. The website is a wealth of information. I also felt comfortable booking my excursions through them because the partners seemed to be vetted.

We got picked up from our hotel at a specific time. We were dropped off at a meeting place where all the tours/excursions converge. There we met our guide Juan Carlos and our driver. Both were friendly and made us feel welcome. The van was clean and we were provided with a cooler filled with bottled water. Juan Carlos is a fountain of information. He educated us about wet and dry forests and animal life. The hike we did was around a 3km hike. I am so happy we got a guide. My partner and I would have wondered aimlessly and failed to appreciate and understand the beauty of Costa Rica.

After the hike, we went to a resort for lunch. The lunch was delicious. Then off we went to Liberia. The tour was excellent. We went to an old church and drove around downtown.

Overall, this tour was excellent. Juan Carlos and our driver were great. I highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I did the kayak tour along Penas Blancas River. It was a group tour, but since no one else booked that day, we ended up up getting a private experience—for half the price! Our guide Francisco was super chill and knew exactly how and where to spot wildlife along the river. He even did a monkey call when we spotted a group of monkeys, and it made them a lot more active in the trees, allowing us to get better photos. He was also a professional wildlife photographer and offered to take my phone to snap photos along the way, and they turned out amazing!

We had kayaked in the past, but since the River was low there were a lot of sticks/obstructions in the River that we had to avoid, but Francisco helped us navigate them easily.

After the kayak tour, Francisco and our driver Brian led us to this cute little family farm, where we enjoyed some local snacks and drinks.

Overall, the guides were amazing and I would highly recommend this Jacamar for all of your excursions.

Our tour company used Jacamar Naturalist Tours for all of our ground transfers as well as for the La Fortuna Waterfall Hike. The waterfall hike was absolutely phenomenal and the guide was wonderful at getting us to the falls, taking pictures while we swam, and giving us the history of the area. The drivers were great for all of our ground transfers, driving safely, stopping when necessary, giving information on the local wildlife and terrain, and stopping for photo ops if we asked. Absolutely wonderful service!

We went on the Sunset Wine and Cheese boat tour on Lake Arenal. The shuttle to the boat was on time, actually a few minutes early and it was a safe 20 minute ride to the boat. We were the only 2 people booked but they ran the tour anyway. The boat is older, but ran smoothly with Captain Crystal at the helm. It was a really cloudy night so we didn’t see much of the Volcano or too much of sunset but it was a nice relaxing couple of hours on the water. Our tour guide David was very knowledgeable about the area and the flora and fauna. We saw a few birds and chatted about Costa Rica, sipped our yummy wine and snacked on a beautiful Charcuterie tray.
It was a nice evening even if we didn’t really see what we wanted to but it was definitely not Jacamar Tours fault at all. They did everything right as far as we were concerned. We cannot predict the weather.

We went on the Lake Arenal Sunset boat trip. It was fantastic. Lake Arenal is beautiful and it was lovely to be on the water and get a different perspective of the volcano. We had perfect weather; the skies were clear right until the sun began to set, when the clouds and volcano turned a dusty rose color. The wine, cheese and fruit plate was perfect.

Our guide, Carlos was knowledgeable and attentive to the subjects we were most interested in. Carlos pointed out a dozen different birds as well as telling us about the region including the volcano. Alvaro, our driver was a delight. He was also entertaining and a lot of fun. Our captain did a wonderful job.

We did the Horseback Riding and Zipline combo in Arsenal and it was amazing! The ziplining was exciting and all of the guides we very helpful and nice. We did the Horseback riding with Yulian and he was the best guide a group could ask for! Very fun and a nice person to talk to and learn from. His knowledge of the horses and wildlife and just Costa Rica in general is fantastic! I would highly HIGHLY recommend if you are visiting to take this tour and hopefully you will have as much fun with Yulian as we did. Also not to forget we had lunch as well which was incredible and tasted amazing while we got to bird watch and have coffee made by Yulian!

Jacob from Jacomar tours handled our family’s transfer from Tamarindo to La Fortuna, including multiple stops to (1) view a demonstration of indigenous pottery making, (2) go on a private boat tour of Palo Verde NP, and (3) visit a nearby farm for a wonderful lunch.

Every detail was seen to, from having the correct child seats on hand and installed for both of our children, to GF options available for meals/snacks. What really distinguished Jacob was his detailed knowledge of the local wildlife - he was great with our young kids and a terrific guide all around.

We were scheduled for the Sensoria, Land of the Senses Tour by our travel agency, Costa Rica Vacations. Our bilingual guide, Rod, picked us up at our hotel. We were surprised to discover this was a private guided tour and that he would be accompanying us throughout our day. Rod was a great communicator and really educated on the area, including wildlife and the rainforest. He brought a professional scope with him to search for birds and animals - we stopped along the drive to look at toucans, howler monkeys and large blue butterflies. He took care to make sure we were comfortable and safe the whole trip. Along the way, we stopped at a small community bakery for pour-over coffee and pastries. Sensoria was absolutely magical! It was worth the drive from Playa Hermosa. Rod really made our day special and we would recommend this excursion to anyone travelling near Rincon de la Vieja!

We booked a tour to go to the park with this company.
The driver, Gerardo M. was very prompt and picked us up on time at our rental place. Nice new van with great A/C.
We arrived at he Park and met our guide, Anthony. He was great at calling birds, then waiting for their call back and then we would hike through the bush in search of them. Saw lots of birds, monkeys and crocodiles.
Then our driver took us to the bridge over the Tarcoles Bridge to see the crocodiles. Then we had a great lunch at a place right by the bridge.
Gerardo was great to talk with over lunch, just to get Costa Rican perspectives.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with this company.
Side note: if you really want to see Costa Rican Flora and fauna , you need to hire a guide to walk through the parks. We have done two parks now and wouldn’t have seen anything without guides. Yes, you can pay the entrance fee and go in on your own, it not sure you would see much? The guides are trained and are very good at their job.
