Loved this 25k mountain bike ride to Lake Arenal! The route was mostly pretty flat with a couple small hills. We stopped to see a coati foraging on the side of the road and a couple of howler monkeys in the trees. Our guide, Manuel, rode with us, and the van followed us so that we had everything we needed and any bikers who got tired could ride in the van instead. When we reached Lake Arenal we stopped for snacks of fresh fruit, cookies and bars before riding back to the starting point. This was a fun way to see the Arenal area!

We had a blast! The folks at Bike Arenal in La Fortuna are the best! We changed our plans 2 different times and they were always accommodating, with a smile! We did an all-day mountain bike ride on a dirt and gravel road around the south side of the lake. The total distance is about 39 miles, but you can go as far, or as little, as you want. We stopped along the way for a wonderful snack picnic of fresh pineapple, drinks, and snack bars. We had a vehicle along should someone want to ride, or if we had bike problems. The surroundings are drop-dead gorgeous. It is like riding in a beautiful botanical garden that never ends. The terrain is challenging enough to have fun and some whoops, and we got to wade across a river with our bikes. At the end, we were taken to a lovely restaurant and fed a delicious casada. It was a perfect day-thanks, Bike Arenal!

We booked a 1/2day mountainbike ride with bike Arenal not knowing what to expect. It was a great and very challenging ride with Jorge (or George) as a very good guide. There was a car following us the whole trip for assistance if nescesary. They can offer you any kind of mtb ride from completely flat to very challenging. Even for a half day trip there was a stop with every kind of fruits, power snacks and drinks. Highly recommended to explore the area around Arenal/La Fortuna on mtb .

My partner and I, who is an avid mountain biker, signed up for a mountain bike ride with Bike Arenal. In advance, I was assured (multiple times) we would be taken on a challenging, terrain-rich ride for which I agreed to pay nearly $300.

In actuality, the ride was entirely flat on paved highway (hello trucks!) with about 1/4 mile of unpaved road through a neighborhood. It was nothing like we were promised, and we left bored and sore from biking a highway upwind on a mountain bike.

While I spoke post-ride with the tour operator (they are good people, this isn't an attack on them personally), no refund or discount was offered for our experience. The experience didn't match what was sold to us, and for that, I cannot recommend their standard mountain bike tour.

Short review:
Guide and driver, 5 stars
Owner, 3 stars (prompt communication but lack of transparency on bikes)
Bikes, 1 star

Long review:
The tour itself was fine although all on paved roads and with a fair amount of traffic, so not really a “MTB tour”. Ore guide, Antonio, is a great guy and he and the driver made the tour worthwhile. Antonio speaks good English, Italian (the main language during the tour), and German and he entertained us with interesting facts about local history and culture.

The bikes quality is a very different and much worse story. I reached out ahead of time to find out about the bikes offering and I was provided with no information. Once I saw the bikes I realized why: we were offered old, hardly maintained, hard tail clunkers:#1 had water spurting out of the fork seals! Bike #2 skipped the chain on almost all gears due to a worn out chain and cassette. The fork felt very stiff, with no regulation and a broken lock out. It gets even worse but no point in beating a dead horse.

If you can get Antonio as a guide and a better bike, Bike Arenal is a decent option for a fun bike tour, although the course options are limited and not always require a mountain bike.

La Fortuna has a thriving cycling community and Bike Arenal is well equipped to handle all your cycling g needs. I booked a tour with Delio. I did not bring my cycling gear to Costa Rica so I bought shoes (needed a new pair), shorts and a CRC jersey. Then Delio and I were off to cycle a local route that had all the twists and turns a cyclist would love. Delio is an extremely fit cyclist and lead me on a great ride with a few stops at local food stands. Best Costa Rica experience a cyclist could have! Thanks Delio.

Excellent from start to finish. We booked late (after the office had closed) and they still managed to organise a guided mountain bike tour for the following morning.

Bikes were great as was the guide who was very knowledgeable and driver was also really helpful. Stopped half way for a picnic by the river with drinks, fruit and snacks.

I would highly recommend this company if you want to do some biking in this area.

We did a mountain bike tour at the volcanic national park. This was a great ride on some easy trails and some serious single track runs too. We had a great workout, great views, challenging portions of the ride, and great tour guides. We finished the tour with some tasty fruit and refreshments. This was one of our favorite activities to do in La Fortuna and was a great contrast to all the relaxing we were doing!

We did the full day tour with Mauricio including the volcano hike, hanging bridges, waterfall and hot springs. Our guide was awesome - not only friendly but went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed, and more. He also was great at spotting wildlife, pointing them out, getting us great pictures of both the wildlife and our family. I would fully recommend the full day tour with Mauricio and Bike Arenal.

I had a great time doing the 1968 Single and Double Track with Bike Arenal. They picked me up from the hotel in the morning and drive to a carpark beneath the volcano. The bike I was given was pretty good, gears shifted well and fit my size. We proceeded to the MTB trail. There are many challenging parts which we are encouraged to choose whether we want to take them on or push the bike to through. But I would say 60% of the route is moderate and enjoyable terrain. Our guide also share interesting information about animals and plants we saw on route. Notes that you have to like getting muddy to enjoy this route.
