Rio Celeste Waterfall -Tenorio Volcano National Park with Swimming at the River

• The dazzling centrepiece of the Tenorio Volcano National Park, the Rio Celeste is most famous for its shockingly bright blue color, the result of a natural reaction of volcanic sulfur and calcium carbonate, which turns the clear waters a powder-blue shade. Reached by hiking through the surrounding rainforest, there are a number of sights of interest located along the Rio Celeste, most notably the Rio Celeste Waterfall, a favorite photo spot where the river tumbles into a striking blue lagoon; the Tenideros, where two rivers merge in the Celeste; and the Poza Azul, the most renowned "dye pool," where the reaction is most noticeable.

The river’s startling color change is best viewed during the dry season (December to April), as excess rainfall can dilute the reactive chemicals leaving the waters with a less-appealing muddy hue.

We booked our entire Costa Rican vacation to the Arenal area through Angelo! He was amazing!!! He drove us everywhere and stopped wherever we desired. He also pointed out places along the way that he thought we might enjoy. His vehicles are very comfortable and accommodating. If you are planning a vacation to Costa Rica this is definitely the group you want to book with. You can book everything including other excursions for different companies such as the Arenal Rafting Company or PureTrek for Waterfall repelling. I recommend doing both, but the rafting was definitely my personal favorite. Booking everything through Angelo was so much smoother than booking everything individually. Plus, if you book everything through him then all your tours with him are private! Angelo is definitely a professional, he is very prepared he also brings along his high powered binoculars, his scope, and professional camera (which he is very happy to share with you)! Here is what we did on our Costa Rican Adventure. Day 1 - Hiking through Mistico Park where there are many hanging bridges. Then we went to La Fortuna Waterfall. After, we enjoyed a lunch at a local spot called La Tiqueria which was wonderful. Last we did a hike up the Arenal Volcano. Day 2 - Arenal White Water Rafting. I highly recommend doing this, even you are not athletic or a little scared. The rafting team are highly experienced and do a great job of accommodating for everyone's skill level and the experience they are looking for. Day 3 - PureTrek Waterfall Repelling. If you are afraid of heights this one might not be for you. This was a super thrilling and adrenaline pumping experience. Prepare to get wet! In the evening we did a night hike with Angelo which was phenomenal! We saw so many different animals, especially frogs as it was mating season. Day 4 - Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. This is an authentic and unique experience as Angelo is the only one that does tours to this wildlife refuge. If you are booking through a different group they are likely not taking you to the actual wildlife refuge, but rather another area close to it. So beware of scammers, and just book through him. Day 5 - Monteverde. We did the café, cacao, and sugar can tour at Don Juan. This was a really cool experience, and not to mention yummy! We also went to the cloud forest which is very appropriately named. This was my other favorite thing that we did. The forest was very majestic and we saw a lot of wildlife. Moral of the story, book your Costa Rica vacation through Angelo at Arenal Expeditions!!! You won't regret it ;) His English is great, he knows the area very well, he is well educated on all the different plants and animals, and is eager about making your experience the best it can be. We will definitely be back and booking through Angelo! :)

We had a wonderful 9-day adventure in Costa Rica after Christmas 2018. Angelo from Arenal Expeditions was our private tour guide for all nine day. Angelo picked us up at the San Jose Airport and took us to La Fortuna. There we stayed in a house that we rented overlooking the Arenal Volcano. This too, was arranged by Angelo, as most of the hotels were already booked up during this peak season. Angelo met us each day, with a smile and activities to keep my family of five adults busy. We began our adventures with a trip he arranged with Arenal Rafting, who took us white water rafting in the Balsa River. On subsequent days, with Angelo driving, we visited La Fortuna River and Waterfall, Arenal Volcano lava fields, Arenal Lake, Mistico Hanging Bridges, Rio Celeste Waterfall and went on a Cano Negro boat tour on the Rio Frio. Relaxing days included a trip to Guanacaste Beaches, and a morning at Eco Termales La Fortuna. We learned about the cultivation of sugar cane, cacao, and coffee visiting plantations along the way to our adventures. Along the way, we stopped off at numerous wonderful restaurants, serving traditional “Tico” (Costa Rican) food. The last day, Angelo drove us for three hours to Monteverde. It was well worth the trip. We spent the day in the Cloud Forest with Angelo showing us, with his spotting scope, numerous animals including the elusive quetzal bird, in all its resplendent glory. We wrapped up the day with a trip to 100% Adventure, a zip line complex in Monteverde. One of the longer zip lines, the Superman, is the longest zip line in Latin America. Over one mile long, it stretches across a valley. If that was not enough, this was followed by a rappel down a tree, and a massive Tarzan swing. Jumping off a platform, the swing carries you down and across the forest in an adrenaline provoking plunge! Prompt, honest, dependable, and a wonderful nature guide is how we would describe Angelo. Thank you, Angelo and Arenal Expeditions, for a wonderful vacation!!!

We booked this tour with Angelo.he is the only person in La Fortuna that does this tour. The waterfall is the biggest in Costa Rica. It’s a beautiful drive up a very curvy road. The hike takes about 20mins down and is very steep coming back is so use a walking stick. We where lucky to only have my boyfriend and i on this tour so it was much more personal. Angelo does a lot of other tours where it is just you and him. If i would have known that i would have booked more through him. He also does private transfers. We stopped at the Caribbean food spot on our way back to the hotel and it was our best dish we have had here in Costa Rica. pura vida
