Chose to start my trip to CR with a visit to Zoo Ave so that I could get a real feeling for the birds and animals that I hoped to see out in the wild. I was not disappointed in fact saw several that I didn't see later on. An excellent well laid out center, worth every cent of the... More

I was travelling on my own in January and had a few hours spare while staying on Alajuela. I spent a couple of hours wondering around and looking at the animals. Personally I do not like Zoos at all and never visit them but this is a conservation and rescue centre. Great way to spend a couple of hours

Here, you can see all the animals you couldn't see on your safari! We saw some bireds like the toucan which we couldn't see. We also saw some big cats like the jaguarundi, which you can't see on safari. The place was really well designed, and was a rescue center, so I didn't feel bad for the animals cooped up... More

This zoo rescues and rehabilitates wildlife, surprisingly enjoyable and educational. Plus supporting rehabilitation of injured wildlife. The even had blue macaws which are extinct now in the wild. Lovely grounds and experience.

Loved this place! The animals here are all rescued from the wild or the pet trade, and housed in large, verdant habitat enclosures with lots of room. The organization that runs Zoo Ave also has a rehab facility on the Nicola Peninsula. They have managed to reintroduce some of the animals back to their native locales, and provide a home... More

These people are doing a fine job of caring for a wide variety of birds, animals and water life who have been injured or mistreated in the wild. The pathways were nicely laid out. It was a joy to get to see these creatures being cared for by caring people.

Costa Rica is sparse on Zoos because they protect their wildlife. This Zoo is one of the few allowed to collect to rehabilitate and reintroduce birds and animals. Wonderful Parrots within 10 feet of your feet, all sorts of birds, wild cats, monkeys, deer and other mammals. A few reptiles. Very kid friendly and lots of signage to educated both... More

We would have liked to visit but it was $20/person since we weren't residents. Looks interesting and advertised as a rescue for birds.

The entrance fee for tourists is a bit high, but I enjoyed wandering around the grounds. The birds and animals mostly seem comfortable in their captivity in natural environment.

We visited the Zoo Jan 1st 2016. It was a wonderful experience. All the enclosures appeared well maintained, the birds looked very healthy, some able to fly free. That was fun meeting an unusual bird strolling along as we walked the paths. Sloths made the visit perfect. The only animal that appeared stressed was the cougar. It had room to... More
