Penny was an amazing tour guide. Very personable, very knowledgeable, very flexible and very organized. She coordinated with her driver perfectly which maximized sight-seeing and minimized idle driving time. She even took me to a tailor to get a custom suit made for me. I saw key attractions and enjoyed it with the 4 hours I had. Highly recommend her.

We had an absolutely fabulous time. Penny is intelligent, knowledgeable and funny. Shanghai is a massive version of all cosmopolitan cities, but this tour let's you see an intimate side of it. Thank you so much Penny.

I was in Shanghai briefly for work and wanted to make the most of my time. My walking tour with Penny was perfect. She was a wealth of information regarding the beautiful spaces that we walked through in the context of the fascinating recent history of China. I think it is a wonderful way to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the culture of the city. In addition, Penny was excellent company and I really enjoyed my conversations with her. Highly recommend!

One word: INDISPENSABLE. For a first timer in Shanghai it is indispensable to be guided by a local in the city attractions. Kelly chose Ms. PENNY PUNG as our guide. Penny cares about every detail on the tour. Arrived as scheduled at our hotel, and explained during all tour VERY INTERESTING facts about China, chinese people and Shanghai history. Her British accent and slow pace speaking turned our tour even better. At the end of the tour she helped my wife with shopping. Penny paid special attention to my 80 years old mother, being kind to her as a granddaughter. As I wrote in the beginning: this assistance in Shanghai is just indispensable, and I found in Kelly and Penny Pung the PERFECT service.

Our guide Fei Fei was clearly well researched and an inspiring source of knowledge in relation to old Shanghai. Although we were picked up and dropped off by car, the majority of the tour is on foot, which is not demanding at all as it is paced to your own needs and served as a great way to experience the culture. I could have spent the whole day discovering more treasures.

I had a private tour with Penny, who is very nice, speaks English well, and is very knowledgeable about Shanghai. She picked me up at my hotel and the time flew by.

The "Hidden Door of Shanghai" tour focuses on neighborhoods in the old town where tourists typically do not go. It was informative and included many streets with old houses (including an old house with carvings and features from the 17th century), a fascinating food market, and a peaceful Confucian temple with gorgeous gardens. We also ate delicious buns and scallion/sesame pancakes.

I enjoyed it a lot and learned a lot about China. This tour is perfect if like me you have already seen the sights. Highly recommended.

Penny was very informed, personable and kind. We enjoyed our tour very much and learned a lot. She took the time to explain history and how ancient customs carry on into today.

My Husband and I went for a trip 2 weeks ago and decided we wanted to know more about the history and culture of Shanghai. We did 2 tours, French Concession with Penny and Hidden Door with Kelly and we absolutely enjoyed both very much. Without these, Shanghai would have been just a modern day commercialised city to us but these 2 tours combined unveiled the true journey Shanghai took to become today, joining parts of history from 400 to 60 years ago. The richness of the culture, architecture, landscape and arts comes to one. I highly recommend you to take both if you have time, because each is only half a day so that leaves you another good half a day to bask in the awe of what you’ve learnt prior.

Great work!

I had 36 hours to spend in Shanghai - what to see? This tour set up my visit to this amazing city. I'd do it again. Penny met us (just 2 of us) at our hotel and took us to the old French Club (Okura Garden Hotel) to start. First a view of the French Concession expanse from the top floor with an explanation of the historical background. Then a walk through the charming streets, plane-tree lined avenues, art deco buildings. Penny bought us a tasty Chinese treat from a roadside stall. A stroll through the King Albert Apartments, a visit to the hall at the Jinjiang Hotel (was the Cathay Mansions and Grosvenor House owned by Victor Sassoon) where Nixon signed the Shanghai Communique in 1972 then to the residence of Sun Yat-sen and finally Fuxing Park and the French gardens.
Penny was a font of knowledge and talked really fast trying to give us as much as possible !! Thank you Penny.
Then she took us back to our hotel by taxi (it was dark by then) which was really helpful and kind of her.

The tour usually starts at 2.00pm but because I was only getting in from Beijing at that time they adjust to start at 3.00. Without that flexibility I would have missed it all !!

This tour was the most interesting thing that I experienced during my week in Shanghai. Penny is a wonderful guide - friendly and knowledgable with impeccable English. She explained the history of old town, and took me into many corners that I would never have found on my own, including a private home with many original features. We visited the Confucian Temple where Penny gave me a crash course on philosophy. We even went through a traditional market, and Penny identified many of the ingredients, and explained how they are used. As it was just the two of us I had a chance to ask many questions about life in China, and this alone was worth the price of admission. I came away with a much improved understanding of Chinese life and culture from both a modern and historical perspective. I would highly recommend this tour.
