Le Baron
About
If you want a sense that these are still the boom years in China's most dynamic city, this club is where you need to be. Decked out in red wherever the eye falls and accompanied by the club's signature disorientating eye pattern, Le Baron exudes style and exclusivity.

The area
Neighborhood: Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.

I've been to Le Baron several times, I really like the music and it is for sure a great after party venue. However, the experience of getting in makes me not want to go every single time.
The door girl, Stephanie, is very rude. She never looks me in the eye when I talk to her, and she ignored me plenty of times. A really good friend of mine works there and I was also introduced to the manager, so often times they would put me on the guest list or text her to let me in and she would still refuse to do so.
I understand it is hard controlling the flow upstairs, however it seems like every time I go up after having to wait ITS BASICALLY EMPTY. She has also let in men who are dressed in "bro tanks" and converse that are so worn down the soles are part gone.
Honestly, I do have loads of fun when I'm in the club. Just don't know if its worth feeling so degraded at the door for.

Been there cause couple of friends suggestion, and I have been told that is not easy enter without a reservation, so I have made it.
However once I get there (well dressed with my wife as same) i get the worst arrogant attitude ever from a teen-age dressed young lady, with slippery and hiphop hat...
I said I have a reservation and this girl just didn't even listen to me and wont let me in (and a crowd line of people outside with me) so I checked and I see she let enter only her friends or recommended peoples...this is the club everybody is talking then?? Managed by an arrogant teenage girl bossy at the door?? Sorry guys inside is ok, but not worth the deal...train your staff properly or one day you will be empty...

Apparently, this place has been the place to seen or to be seen in Shanghai. Staff will not be nice to you unless you are one of the VIPs. Which is ridiculous! Go somewhere with better service unless you have tonnes of money and want to occasionally run into celebrities.

This is hands down the most terrible, discriminatory club in Shanghai. The boss is absolutely HORRIBLE and will pick on minorities (gays, dress, cultures, etc) and kick them out of the club for absolutely no reason. The drinks are expensive, the staff are the rudest I've experienced in my 2 years in Shanghai, and the bouncers are aggressive beyond belief. Worst is the boss who should not qualify as a human being being so disgustingly rude and discriminatory.

Absolutely terrible club. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Because of the people working in the entrance that place is not in my list again. What kind of an attitude is that?! That lady who acts like she is the boss of the place, talking without looking at me, dressed like a 15 year old girl with slippers, hat infront of a club which mostly foreigners are going with heels, nicely dressed up people, her behaviour is so annoying. I said that I ve a name on the list and she even didn t check it and said that we have to wait even our names on the list couse upstairs is crowded. That part I can understand ofcourse but just after 2 min she started to take a lot of people from the other corner. I am so sorry for your reputation guys but if these kind of people will work in your team no one will come there one day. Couse now the word is spreading around is don t go to le baron after 3 couse you won t get in. Plus give some trainings to your staff how to talk with the people! Couse the people that this teenage girl is dealing with more upscale than her and someone has to tell this to that little one!!!! So the point is guys don t go there after 3!

Truly speaking i put bad reviews only when its REALLY BAD... So here we go Le Baron is the worst night life experience in Shanghai. We booked a table on Friday night throw a one of their managers. When we got there the bouncer pretend that they dont have this booking, and totally ignored us, i would leave right away but my friends wanted to check the spot cause they thought its really busy and cool if the bouncer dont want to let people in. Somehow after 20 mins they let us in and brought to our table. Well place was not that full to block people downstairs, drunk kids vomiting everywhere , rude staff and terrible music. We left right away. Not a place to be when u have clubs like Bar Rouge, M1nt and ASL.

I wouldn't recommend this place, its an aweful place trying to be pretentious because they have so many foreigners who go, but its not that great. There are much better bars in this area that actually welcome you and don't treat you like cattle outside waiting to get in. The french guy at the door is clearly is having a mid life crisis, cant even communicate with anyone or manage his bouncers. Music was alright inside, generic pop crap. Do yourself a favor, you are in China go to a bar with Chinese hospitality and enjoy the county you are in.

Don’t be taken in by the people trying to get in as you should be trying to get out . Ask yourself why do they employ so many bouncers it is not for your own safety it is to make sure they extract any money you may owe them .
Whatever , you do , do not open one of the numerous bottles of possible champagne on the tables as they come with a charge of £170 and you won’t know that until it’s opened.
If you are sitting at a table then you will be moved on unless you have succumbed to opening a bottle.
It’s a seedy place with little nooks and crannies and absolutely no atmosphere with a poor selection of music.
Shanghai must be short of night clubs is this is one of the more popular venues .

This place is stuffy and shallow. We reserved a table and dropped about 2k USD expecting to have a good time sending off a friend but nope, apparently that wasn’t enough money because after about half hour the staff started being really nasty to us to the point I felt like leaving. They pushed us so far to the corner of our table we didn’t have any space left to sit. The club got really crowded super quickly too. Not a great experience. Unless getting terrible service and being pushed around the dance floor is your vibe, I don’t recommend it.

Don’t waste your time. We had a reservation and were totally ignored by the incredibly rude and arrogant ‘bouncer’ at the door once we arrived who claimed we were not on the list. Spend your money somewhere where you’ll be welcomed, this place is trying to be ridiculously pretentious with no merit.
