The area
Neighborhood: Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.

Interesting art installations
Nov 2019
This building itself is already a piece of art! We were there for photography and walked around to see some of its art installations for free. Highly recommended!

Very cool architecture, that was build and then not much happens
Oct 2019
We came in 2019 to watch a digital art installation. From the internet it looks very cool, as the architecture seemed very sleek and organic. When we arrived, we realized there wasn't much activity to occupy the space. Most of the building was sealed off, some of it was used as children play school. And the art exhibit was only a tiny part of the museum that was open. So there wasn't much to see, and not much of the building was open for exploration if you want to check out its architecture.

Vert badly designed theatre
Mar 2019 • Family
Currently I am sitting in the theatre of the Himalaya Art Centre with my 6yo, watching Peppa live show. The theatre is very badly designed: the even number rows in the area A are not elevated. If you are sitting innrows 4, 6, 8 or 10 with a child, (s) he won't be able to see the show. Only every second row is higher and the seats are also high. Even I can't see anything. And we had to pay more than 600 RMB (almost 100 euro) for the two tickets - it's a very dumb arrangement....

Go to See Mogao Caves Exhibit
Mar 2016 • Couples
This museum was one of the first private museums in China. It is a bit strange, covering a couple of floors in a high rise building in Pudong near the Shanghai Convention Center. It is easy to get to by metro. The current (March 2016) exhibit is on the Mogao Caves on the Silk Road in Western China. There is extensive (but perhaps not extensive enough) English language descriptions and a recreation of several caves. The history of Buddhism in China is covered in the magnificent paintings mostly recreated here, with some modern art interpretations as well. If you don't have time to go to Western China, this is worth a visit. Not sure what normal exhibits are. There are also some recreations of the topography in front of the building.
