Neighborhood: Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.

The place has something, the patio & paintings are nice. But fat too dark, difficult to read the menu, menu which needs to be replaced. The waitresses are not in hurry, we have time to read the menu, even a Saturday night. Food is just ok.

Wine bar and western cuisine. Around 35 for a beer or 280 for foreign wines. Disappointing, lighting too dim to read menu. Super slow service, almost one hour to wait for basic pizza when place was fairly quiet. Nothing for vegans. Over chilled A/C. Won't rush back.

Nice place

Visited Project Wine last night with a couple of friends, and couldn't have found a better place. Staff was nice, the wine prices were quite reasonable - especially during happy hour (buy one get one), food was pretty good, about par with other wine bars in the area. The place is fairly small, but whoever did the interior design did an incredible job of making the most of the space and keeping it stylish. Will definitely be back.

This is really a nice place to have a drink and talk with some friends. The wine list is not the most impressive one I have seen but it is ok especially the package with one bottle free if you buy one. The food is good for some snacks. The overall atmosphere is really good !

Project Wine has a brilliant the interior (a type of loft feel), designed by French designer Thomas Austerveil and co-owner Hao. Casual and lively, it's a place where young local and foreign professionals like to hang out for chats which is possible given that the music is audible but not intrusive/overbearing. It has a 2am license. It's squeaky clean and a truly "urban oasis". The look is retro and it has an open yet cozy feel to it. It's a gathering place for unwinding and relaxing and going in alone is not a problem as co-owner Liz looks after guests (she is completely fluent in English and exudes warmth). The crowd tends to be upscale and most local patrons converse in both Chinese and English. It's also a great place to hold an after-dinner business meeting as it's very respectable or just going out on a relaxing date. There are several large tables which can accommodate about 8. Upstairs, there are cozy sofas, places to work on a laptop. The wine list is impressive and diverse and it doesn't have to cost a fortune.
