We took advantage of China’s free transit visa (24 hr) and arranged a tour of Shanghai during our layover with China Travel. Our tour guide Daniel was awesome! He had to wait for us due to our plane being late and was able to change up our plans on the fly. In the brief time in Shanghai we were able to fit on numerous city sites and even went to a Chinese Tea ceremony and ate delicious Shanghai dumplings from a Michelin rated restaurant. We also went on a cruise down the river to see all the skyscrapers and traveled back to the airport on the maglev train!! Daniel went out of his way to tell us the history of Shanghai even made sure we got through the check in at the airport. Daniel spoke excellent English and would highly recommend both him and the company.

Our tour guide Candy from China Highlights did a fantastic job guiding my family of 5 (3 teenagers) from the moment we arrived at Pudong Airport. We were in Shanghai for 2 full days. She met us at the gate, then great transportation to our hotel. Hotel (Le Royal Meridien) was arranged by the agency and was great. She toured us through the highlights of Shanghai such as People’s Square, Bund, Old Town, Water Town. She picked great restaurants for us. Mostly she took great care of us. One of our kids had a slight sprained ankle before the trip started, and Candy was very sensitive to that, even guiding us to a pharmacy to get some supplies for that. Candy got us to Hongqiao airport and off to our next destination without a hitch.

I travel to China quite a bit for work but never got to see the “tourist” things of Shanghai. This was definitely a great adventure and highly recommend.

Shanghai may not have a lot of offer in terms of sights but the first look at the city , you just keep your eyes on the sky, We visited the museum, bund and jade buddha temple along with jin Mao tower's top floor.
Along with us was Sophie, very knowledgeable and highly exuberant . She knows and understands the culture of China and patiently explains. She even went out of her way and stayed back to escort us back to our hotel after the acrobatic show late night , shows her commitment to her job , which she mentions is her passion. Not to forget she took us to an Indian Restaurant of our choice for Vegetarian Lunch which was included in our tour price

I went to Tongli water town for a day tour.
My overall impression of the trip was excellent. Good communication following my reservation of the trip. The guide Linda was punctual and very helpful as well as being knowledgeable regarding the trip. I can't say anything negative about the trip.

I was in Shanghai for a few days last week with a friend. We had prearranged a day-long tour of Zhujiajiao Water Town outside of Shanghai and Qibao Town inside of the city of Shanghai. Our English speaking guide, Linda, was early to meet us at our hotel, immediately instilled confidence in us with her good English speaking skills, and proved to be very competent and knowledgeable. She quickly caught on that our pace was not too fast, and she accommodated us in every way. She was a delight to spend the day with. She answered all our questions and provided us with an amazing amount of information. As an added highlight, she knew where all the best "western" toilets were located!! I highly recommend Linda for any English speaking travelers! If I am lucky enough to get back to Shanghai, I would again prearrange tours with this company and request Linda as my guide.

For our 5 night stay in Shanghai we engaged Celine from China Highlights as our guide. We wanted to do a walking tour, combined with taxis and Metro trains for more distant sights and Celine accommodated us brilliantly. She had an excellent knowledge of Shanghai and took us to many places we would never have found by ourselves. From the moment we met her we were taken with her bright, bubbly personality and wicked sense of humour. Apart from taking us everywhere we wanted to go, Celine helped us organise train tickets for our next leg of travel and oversaw arrangements on our behalf in packaging and sending goods back to Australia.

We felt privileged to have such a fantastic guide during our stay in Shanghai and would highly recommend Celine to anyone looking for a top experience in this wonderful city.

We had a great tour to Nanxun -- a water town a little further away from Shanghai than most of the others. But worth the extra 30 minute drive. A beautiful water town and a unique "locals" experience (99% of the tourists there were Chinese). So much less crowded than other water towns. Kris was our guide and he was very helpful not just for this tour but also in providing us advice for our entire upcoming stay in Shanghai.

I was a solo female traveler. I was 19weeks pregnant- with twins. I don't speak a lick of Chinese ( sadly). On my planned budget trip to Tokyo, when I saw I had a 24hr layover at the Shagnhai Pudong Airport, the last thought in my mind was - If I have time I will probably see a little of China.
Luckily a friend suggested that I try leaving the airport and seeing china, instead rearranging a flight seems that you DO NOT need a visa if you are staying less than 72 hrs in the country In the midst of researching the feasibility of this, I stumbled upon the best idea ever - Layover tours.
It seems there are many options in this arena. Yes you can try to go it alone. But when you are in a country of which you don't speak the language and have somewhat tight turn around time between r connecting international flight ... why tempt fate? Take guided, well planned , professional organized tour with an English speaker who will help you squeeze all the value out of your gifted travel day from the Gods.

This tour was awesome! And it will forever make me now look for cheap flights with long layovers - wherever I travel.

First a big thanks to Allison: She was Awesome. Her English was excellent and easily answered the cultural questions I peppered her with. She is was such a window into everyday Shanghai life.

Reasons to love and choose this tour:
1) Pick up and drop off from the Airport. You must pick up your checked bags and go through Chinese Customs. However you will meet your guide IN the airport at easily found location.

2) English speaking guide and separate driver. I felt safe knowing that the guide was talking with me about the sites, knowing a separate person was doing all the driving. The Van was clean comfortable and had plenty of room

3) Touristy sites but Authentic culture: Of course on an 8-10 hr tour you will hit the major highlights, but it is nice to do it with a guide who offers that touch of authenticity. You are getting a feel for how tourist areas are used and seen through local eyes. "Lovers Wall" is a place where many brides come to take their wedding photos.

4) Great opportunity for the solo traveler avoid wasting time by getting lost, to get that perfect picture, to not miss hidden treasures along the way, to be sure they are ordering authentic meals from street vendors/restaurants etc

5) Flexible itinerary. Allison was so helpful in finding a place where I can purchase post cards, then helped me look for a post office to purchase stamps. Although we weren't successful with the latter - Luckily her suggestion was correct that there is a post office within the Pudong Shanghai Terminal from which to send them

Some tips:
1) Leave your luggage at the " Baggage Deposit" It was safe, cheap and easy to retrieve. I was happy to leave it there instead of dragging it around or leaving it in the drivers car while we toured the town.

2) If you skip the hotel and overnight in the Airport - only the INTERNATIONAL terminals allow you to use your United States Bank Cards to withdraw cash. Customs puts you out in a domestic terminal. So you must walk back to an international terminal to have access to bank atms that work for you, or stores with wi fi hook ups ( like starbucks). If you stay where you exit customs - the restaurants close over night. They offer only authentic food ( which isn't so bad! try it). You may be harassed by airport cabbies wanting to take you to a hotel. Lastly known of them take cards! Chinese Cash currency only!

6) Thank you again to Allison! I can not say enough on how she exceeded my expectations for this tour. Go working women of the world!

I felt blessed to have had such a wonderful experience. The cost I thought was well worth it. I would have never been able to do as much and see as much by myself as a solo traveler. I came back full of cultural tid bits to share with my children and friends and inspire them to visit this very large, historic city. Till the next layover ...

My mother and I were traveling to Bali and had a 12 hour layover in Shanghai. Since I had been to Shanghai, we wanted to see one of the smaller water towns so we chose Tongli. From the moment we met our guide Melody, I knew we would have a great tour. Melody was very friendly and knowledgeable. She spoke English very well which was a huge help for us. She showed us the highlights of Tongli in the little time that we had - this included a boat ride, gardens, and a delicious Chinese lunch. It was a really nice day and made our layover worthwhile! I would definitely recommend this company.

We had one day in Shanghai with an amazing tour guide Sophie! She was well spoken, energetic and very knowledgeable. The company supplies a driver but the guide really makes the day perfect. Of all our tour guides on our trip, she was the best. She made Shanghai very memorable and fun.
