Great little pub

Small, quiet, simple, friendly. Not too much else to say. They sometimes have live music but not the night I was there. Food is simple pub food but the burger was one of the best Ive had in China.

Drinks!
Feb 2021 • Friends
Went for drinks here, after a birthday party. Many in our group were looking for Guinness, but unfortunately they had none. Nevertheless, we had a great time. Atmosphere was great

The tipsy fiddler must be on the wagon

Went on New Years Eve afternoon with a Scottish friend. There was no music playing. The Christmas tree lights were off. It was dead silent. We asked for a menu. The server brought the menu and went back behind the bar, face glued to her phone. When we were ready to order she went outside to smoke and look at her phone more. Not a soul to take our order for 10 minutes or more. She comes back in to the bar to look at her phone some more even though she knew we'd had 15 minutes with a menu and had no drinks or eats. We call her over, order and ask for some music again. (I turned on the Christmas tree lights myself). 15 or 20 minutes later our food comes but my friend who ordered a pizza got a tuna salad. We were the only people in the bar except 2 men drinking pints and not eating. Not sure how that order got mixed up. Still no music playing.

Asked for music again. No apology or acknowledgement. 10 minutes later, she made the first effort to turn on some music. In the mean time, she was back behind the bar looking at her phone.

We were whispering the whole time because it was so somber. And we could only talk about how this could be an Irish/Scottish pub in NYE.

By coincidence, another Scottish colleague arrived and when we told him our experience he said basically that's everyone's experience here. Nights can be lively and fun, but come in daylight hours at your own peril.

Very disappointing service and food was pretty blah. Wish the staff could at least feign some hospitality.

Highly recommended for trad musicians

The authentic Irish pub in Shanghai where there is traditional music going every week. Allan is a Scottish, outstanding guitar player and singer and if you play any traditional music, do come to the session here! The day I come there is a banjo player from Ireland, Bodhran and flute player. It will be great to see the Irish/Scottish music expand its root in China.

As all have said, a fine little Irish Bar, but they are very happy to flaunt the law regarding smoking in China.
So if you visit, be prepared to have your clothes stinking after only a short stay....

Great Little Bar!

What a great find! A lovely little neighborhood bar with some great beer on tap. Though we didn't eat here tonight, the menu sports some good Scottish, Irish and general Western bar food!

Live music Wednesday through Sunday nights.

Irish Pub in Shanghai.

I was very surprised to see an Irish pub 2 blocks from my hotel, Crowne Plaza, Shanghai. They were having entertainment that night so I thought I'd give it a try. Looked like an Irish Pub back home in the USA. Mostly expats but some local Chinese. Bartenders spoke English but not really good at making drinks such as a Martini ( which I shouldn't have ordered in the first place). Be aware that even though they told me they accepted credit cards, my didn't work. I believe they must be issued in China. A nice young man that I'd been chatting with paid the overage of my bill since I was short of Yuan.

Really brilliant pub!

Recommended by a friend and was thrilled, it felt like a little slice of home.
The food selection though small, was all delicious. I was thrilled that they had bangers & mash on the menu. We had a visiting friend with us from the UK who thought it was great we were having bangers & mash in China.
Atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly and super helpful.
The beer selection was also impressive, particularly the Guinness!

Live music, stunning artwork, superb toilets, tremendous Guinness

I was in Shanghai recently with a friend when, just towards evening, we were impressed by the need to go for several pints of delicious Guinness. Thankfully, just over the road from the hotel, I spied a glimpse of The Tipsy Fiddler.

After placing one comfortably shod foot after another in the direction of the Tipsy, we entered building to be greeted warmly by the owners, Allan and Helen. Hours drifted by as we were regaled with stories of life in Shanghai. Then, to our delight, Allan took to the stage, quick as a flash, and performed some excellent songs in both the Scottish and Irish traditions.

The Guinness was especially good that night, as was the friendly chat around the bar from the well-heeled regular patrons. So much so, in fact, that I elected to spend the rest of the weekend drinking, laughing and generally enjoying the fruits of this most excellent public house.

Oh, and the cat, Begbie, is a nice touch.
