A friend & I traveled to China in Jun2023 and we had Kris as our private tour guide in Shanghai. He was extremely professional & entertaining and spent the entire day with us supporting a flexible itinerary. He was very knowledgeable about the sights and relevant history and of course current affairs. He greeted us early morning at our hotel lobby and helped transport us (with a private driver) throughout the day. Though we were meant to see the bund during the day, he was willing to join us into the evening during the Dragon Boat Festival so that we felt safe and supported. We really enjoyed our day with Kris and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him or request his services again when we we are back!

Our two day tour of Shanghai was seamless...from the airport pick-up, tours, hotel and airport drop off. Our guide, Karen, was the best guide we had in our China travels! Our driver, Ken, was also excellent! What we really enjoyed was Karen picked up on our interests and adjusted our tour for our specific interests.

My partner and I had the opportunity to take a once in a lifetime trip through China for a few weeks and China Highlights made it all possible. Due to last-minute visa and planning, we were rushed to figure out how to best utilize our time and see the beautiful country. We messaged China Highlights our dates, preferences, and general interests. They curated the full itinerary, reserved all hotels, trains/transportation, and tickets while building in flexibility.
Our first stop was in Shanghai where we were blessed to spend a few days exploring the city with Kris, our amazing tour guide. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and committed to curating the trip you want. There were a few things that were not on our original itinerary and Kris went out of his way to rearrange the schedule and make sure we got to see and do them all. He made excellent recommendations for evening activities after our tours were complete. It was fun to get to know one another and share our stories of cross-cultural travels and adventures.
I plan to recommend China Highlights's tour with Kris to everyone I know heading to Shanghai!

We had Ryan drive/pick us up from the train station. He was very knowledgeable and had a lot of good local and international trivia. Afterwards we went to Hangzhou and it was beautiful. I would highly recommend going to the tea village as picking rea leaves and learning about the culture surrounding Chinese tea was an unforgettable experience!

Going in with limited expectations, Our experience with China Highlights as our tour operator and our tour guide Kris gave us an experience like none other.
What was observed was punctuality and having the route fixed appropriately for our two day trip. Some key aspects being - the vehicle provided for our tour was more than satisfactory. The food catered to our specific requirement. The locations suggested and chosen more or less covered the entire city.
Our tour guide Kris kept every element in check with regards to managing the time. Was courteous throughout & very informative at stops and points of interest and had been quite generous on stops planned and unplanned. A full thumbs up until the very last minute spent with him.
Overall a great tour and lovely memories for us to cherish in times to come.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by exploring China ; and first in our bucket list was Shanghai and Beijing.
We booked this trip via China Highlights, and we had a tour guide , named Ryan, who made our trip memorable by not only sending us to Shanghai's best spots but most of all his rich knowledge on all these places. One of the best part is that he communicates very well, fluent in English, made us understand China's culture, its stories behind those buildings and sceneries. No doubt will recommend this travel site to our friends, "High Five" to China Highlights and again kudos to our tour Guide, RYAN, see you again !!

My friends and I, group of four pax visited Shanghai, Hangzhou and Huangshan in June.
We had 3 tour guides for the various cities.
Our first guide, Martin was indeed very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He was our guide for Suzhou. His explanation and description of Suzhou in English is very good.
In Shanghai, he helped us locate the places we wanted to go for our shopping and restaurants to go to. He was very helpful when picking us at airport and train stations and also helping us check in for our train departure at the ever busy Hongqiao station. Martin is highly recommended if you’re looking to visit Shanghai.
We had 3 tour guides for the various cities.
Our first guide, Martin was indeed very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He was our guide for Suzhou. His explanation and description of Suzhou in English is very good.

This trip has been an eye-opener for myself and my mum, and the flexibility enabled us to fully explore the city during my free time. To running enthusiasts like me, Shanghai is a very nice place to clock your runs. There are many visits to places of interests, but the plans are not hectic. The hotel being arranged is very close to the Shanghai Bund and you can have a very nice view even when resting. Tour guides under this agency are very well experienced, and questions are always answered in great detail. Definitely will recommend to anyone who would like to go on a flexible tour with guidance.

Our final day of our 17day holiday in China was spent in Shanghai. We had an expert guide in Kris from China Highlights to show us around this magnificent city.
From the rolling skyline to the majestic Huangpu River there is ample scenery in Shanghai but the main feature for travellers at the end of a long journey is the multitude of shopping opportunities to source those necessary mementos of this wonderful country. Everything for every taste and budget is available.
Kris showed us the highlights including a ride to the top of the Shanghai tower, the world's second tallest building, as well as the sites that add to the rich history of this city including the Bund and old living sections that depict the lifestyle of the local Shanghai residents.
Glimpsing life in one of Chinas largest cities is something that should be included in any holiday to China.

We toured Shanghai with Kris from China Highlights as our guide, he was friendly, helpful and made the trip a lot of fun! He also went above and beyond when we traveled to my daughter’s birthplace helping to get information and connect with people from the orphanage where my daughter was adopted from.Highly recommend!!

It takes about 1 hour from the Bund area to Shanghai Wusongkou port. Cost is japproximately CNY 100 by taxi.
We could also arrange private transfer with driver guide only. Price range is from US$33-48 per person, depended upon number of travelers with you.

In my review, I would like to correct the name of our guide in Guilin.I will take this opportunity to thank Hai Mei, our Guide in Guilin. A young Lady with an infectious smile and so compassionate. My wife has problem to walk at a strecth. Mei was always with her, very patient and encouraging. Travelling with Mei in Guilin, Longsheng and Yangshuo was a pleasure. Patiently she would walk with us at Daxu ancient town and Longsheng Jinkeng rice terraces explaining humbly, yet you could sense the pride, the history of the area and the culture.

ChinaHighlights offers day tours at reasonable prices.
Good logistics - pick-up and drop-off at your hotel.
Tour guides are more of a babysitter/manager - they don't really offer much explanation or insight into what you are seeing.
I would try to see
- Former French Concession
- ride the Huangpu river cruise at dusk (combo of day and evening sights)
- Yuyuan Garden
- Urban Planning Museum (see the city model and skip everything else)
