Honestly, this is the most ANNOYING bell I’ve ever had to listen to in my life. It rings every half hour or so and if you live in a hotel nearby it’s IMPOSSIBLE to fall asleep. I had to put on my earbuds to fall asleep. It’s the 21st century.... we all have cell phones or watches to tell us the time.

This sound along with the iPhone alarm sound are the two worst noises I’ve ever heard in my life.

A Symbol Of The Bund
Oct 2018 • Solo
The iconic Custom House always reminds me that I'm on the Bund, Shanghai's west-side waterfront area, known for its beautiful colonial-era buildings. This one went up in 1927 and features a 300-foot-high clock tower, modeled after London's Big Ben. Whenever I think about Shanghai's distinctive buildings, the Custom House and the Fairmont Peace Hotel are the first two that come to mind.

An 8-story granite neoclassical facade marks the river side of the Custom House on the east. Its western section displays five stories, some clad in brown bricks, on Sichuan Road. Though the building stands on Zhongshan Road, it is best seen from afar on the elevated promenade by the Huangpu River.

iconic clock tower
Dec 2017 • Family
Being a trading port means that there was a need to have a customs checkpoint and it was built right on the Bund. Today, it remains a Custom House as Shanghai new in strides as a premier port in the world. One of the iconic feature of the Customs House is the clock tower that holds the brother of London’s Big Ben. Known as Big Ching, it is modelled after the bell on Westminster. In fact, the bells even play the traditional tune of Westminster Quarters but since has been stopped.

One of the most famous and beautiful Bund buildings
Oct 2016 • Couples
This beautiful building is the latest incarnation on the site and dates from the 1920s. The façade onto the Bund is gorgeous.

Four clocks modelled on London’s Big Ben are atop in the tower. The clock music has been changed a number of times, following political dictum.

We stepped past the fine Doric columns and entered via the imposing doorway. The lobby is delightful. An octagonal dome has exquisite mosaics on all sides.

Shanghai Custom's House is a tall neo classical building along The Bund next to the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank building. It was built in 1927 as the Custom's house and has been so since.
The 8 story building has a clock tower atop that has one of the largest clocks and bell in Asia.
The best view of the building is from the elevated promenade across the road. The customs house and the Pudong Development bank building next to it make a very nice picture together.

Historic building
Sep 2014 • Couples
This is one of the historic buildings on the Bund and therefore at the heart of the old commercial district of Shanghai. This is a collection of glorious buildings which dominate the Bund.

I worked here

This is a famous building and landmark of Shanghai, the head office of the company that I work for is on the 6th floor. It's a beautiful building but almost nothing to visit as I see, the clock is really annoying.

Looks like a cathedral
Oct 2013 • Family
We thought it was a cathedral and we were amazed to see that it was the customs' house. There is a clock at the top and one can easily hear the bell ringing while strolling along the Bund.
