Very popular area for tourists, hidden within the Yuyuan old Street is Yuyuan Garden and an original 200 year old tea house. If you’re not interested in souvenirs simply ignore the vendors, do note that shops with prices you can’t negotiate and sometimes these works...More

We went to the gardens first and walked through here and my first thought was there’s no way I would be able to navigate myself through as it’s huge! Turned out when you leave the gardens you are right back in this section. We had...More

Well preserved and rebuilt historical site. Many souvenirs and food shops. Combined with the visit of the guarded nearby makes it a good half day activity!

To clarify, there is the Yu Garden and the Yu Garden Area. The gardens themselves require a ticket and are only open during the day. The style is very traditional Chinese garden and beautiful to walk around. We didn't get an map which would have...More

Incredible array of shops selling just about everything. A great place to spend a few hours getting your souvenirs. Lots of eateries too and somewhere in the middle is Yuyuan Garden.

Shanghai - she's so modern (or was that not a Bob Geldof song?). So it is well worthwhile heading into the old town and its bazaar shopping experience. There are lots of tea, souvenir, fashion and all sorts of shops (many now very modern-looking too)...More

First and foremost, go early in the morning before the hordes of people. Second, stay away from aggressive vendors. Finally, avoid purchasing anything in that area because it is all vastly overpriced.

The buildings here are really impressive. Very busy area as popular with both locals and tourists. The only thing that lets it down is the invasion of high street chain shops. It somehow takes away from the buildings. Well worth a visit though.
