The area
Neighborhood: People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
How to get there
  • People's Square • 3 min walk
  • Dashijie • 7 min walk

Wonderful place to experience traditional Chinese opera
Nov 2017
This is an excellent place to experience traditional Chinese opera. Very good productions and good sight lines from most seats. Not too expensive either. To Western ears Chinese opera can be a bit of an acquired taste, but one that is definitely worth acquiring. Thankfully smoking is now banned throughout the theatre.

A must to visit in Shanghai
Sep 2014 • Friends
I've been to Yifu Theater to see a Beijing Opera, one of the traditional Chinese opera performances. It was STUNNING! If you are also interested in discovering the local culture, Beijing Opera in Yifu Theater is a must to see!

You can buy your ticket until the opera begins, even 30 mins before as we did. By the way, they did not except my Mastercard for the payment and I had to pay in cash, which was 180 RMB for a seat in front of the stage at the right side. I recommend having an English speaking Chinese person with you to translate the story of the play. Otherwise, it may be boring for you. I wish you a good time in Yifu Theater!
