Sloppy and Patronising staff - avoid
Jan 2019 • Couples
What an experience. The wife and I were going to get a couple of suits made and were put off within seconds of speaking to the condescending door man who I can only assume is educated in the school of patronising tools. Lovely suits but take your money elsewhere as there are many great tailors in Shanghai with good staff. Avoid this branch like the plague.

The Branch at Shanghai Centre is terrible
Aug 2018 • Solo
While the other locations might be great, this one in the 5th Floor at Shanghai Centre is terrible. The Chinese staff is more concerned about looking at their smartphones and do not follow up after leaving my phone number to secure an appointment. While they open at 10:00 am, they say that it’s better to arrive at 10:30 am, as they will certainly be late.

Avoid this one, perhaps try the one at Maoming Nan Lu.

Best of the Best!
Aug 2018 • Friends
We have just arrived in Hong Kong and we could not wait to see the welcoming staff of WW Chan. We just ordered 2 special and very unique sport coats and the price was much less than we expected. We have been clients of WW Chan for over two decades and now my son is as well. If you want top quality superb craftsmanship on your bespoke suites, pants, shirts, and jackets W.W. Chan is the place to go. It is not overnight but it is the BEST.

Always excellent shirts
Apr 2017 • Couples
My husband has been getting bespoke shirts from WW Chan for the last 6
or so years. The shirts are always very well tailored with beautiful fabrics that wear really well; the latest ones are no exception.
Shirts take about 4 - 5 days to make with a fitting in the middle.
If you are after quality then go to WW Chan; they also do trunk shows so you do need to be in Shanghai or Hong Kong to get new shirts.

The final word in bespoke tailoring
Jan 2016
Just finished my midnight blue, two button, peak lapel suit made with Holland and Sherry super 100's fabric. Charles was a great help in selecting the fabric, colour and style and guided me throughout the process. Bao, the tailor is an artist. He created the best suit I have ever owned. In a word, "Amazing". The details are just so incredible its like a piece of art. Sure it's not cheap however, as with all things in life, you get what you pay for. The Shanghai branch of WW Chan are amazing. I'm already planning my next suit. Strongly recommend this tailor for anyone serious about commissioning a bespoke suit. I can't praise this tailor shop enough. They are experts at what they do and that is to make the best fitting custom made men's suuts. Visit them next time you are in Shanghai. You will not be disappointed, I assure you.

Great customer experience
Aug 2015 • Business
If you want good service and high quality, this is a great option. I bought four shirts, fairly slim fit, very good design, for 800 a piece. In my view, great value. I normally wear shirts from Eton, Pink and Italian designers - and this was a totally different story. Very nice fit. Time will show if the quality in the cotton is good, but so far so good.

Exceptional service, exceptional quality - excellent experience all around!

First of all, to comment on the two most recent reviews:

WW Chan's are the closest you can get in China (Except for Hong Kong) to Saville Row quality (Without probably quite matching London's finest tailors). Of course this will cost you a pretty penny, but still only a half or less of what you would pay in London. The fabrics are of high quality, almost all imported, and will easily account for half of your bill already. So don't compare apples with oranges when you look at the prices. You can certainly have cheaper shirts made in China, but the craftsmanship will unlikely be as high and pretty much never use as good fabrics as you will get here.

Regarding the American chap who was disappointed with the results of the trunk show in NYC, I obviously don't know what really happened, but be aware that you are knocking on the wrong door. The people doing the overseas trunk shows are run out of Hong Kong, so if you have a complaint and a negative review, take it to them.

As for my own experiences, they have been simply excellent throughout:

I first went to have a navy pinstripe business suit made in early 2013 and was immediately struck at the beginning of the care the manager (Freddy) took to understand what "look" I wanted. He also went through all the fabrics with me and was completely open with prices. I gave him my budget, and he never tried to upset me. Three fittings followed, all about one week apart, and in the end the suit looked and felt perfect. The chief tailor was always around, and it showed that him and Freddy knew exactly what they were doing. The final bill came to around USD1,000, with the fabric chosen a Super 110s Vitale Barbers Canonico.

My second project here was a dinner suit in mid-night blue. Like at the first time, Freddy proved extremely knowledgeable on all the small details regarding the finishing and look of this garment. I had done my research and knew exactly what I wanted (single breasted peaked lapel, with grosgrain lapels, and some other minor details) and while he made some comments and suggestions (In terms of what was currently in style, what would look more traditional, what would last longer, etc etc) he took everything onboard that I wanted. This time it took five fittings, as I am a picky customer, but in the end I was immensely pleased with the results once more. It took roughly a month, which I consider excellent bearing in mind the work that has gone into it. The fabric this time was a Super 140s from the same manufacturers as above, and the price tag around USD1,500, which is appropriate given the highly quality of the cloth and the additional workmanship involved.

If you want to go to an excellent tailor in China who understands the history and details of Western clothing, and want not only good craftsmanship but also excellent fabrics that result in a garment which will make you look sharp in London, New York and Paris (as well as everywhere else), these are the guys to go to. If you only want average quality clothing and are not willing to spend extra on all the bells and whistles, you should certainly go somewhere else.

Way too expensive
Feb 2015 • Family
Went there for some shirts. RMB 800 to 1000 each. For China that is really too much. There are several tailors around that match the quality for half the price.

W.W. Chan Sucks
Jan 2015 • Solo
W.w. Chan has a great brand name and when you go to their trunk shows in NYC, they come across as very client friendly. I ordered a suit that cost more 2k usd. After 3 or 4 wears, the pants split down the middle, not just the stitching. All embarrassment aside, when I called them up to talk to them the first thing I was told was that it will cost me 700 usd to replace those pants. When I expressed my displeasure , they gave me an offer of 300 usd replacement charge and said this is a "special offer" or take a hike.

In between I had placed an order of 2 more suits, which I have cancelled, and am following up with my credit card co. I highly doubt I will get a refund, but will never do business with such establishments who rip off their clients. Extremely displeased !!!!!!!!!!

The devil is in the details!
Dec 2014
WW Chan has been making fine tailored suits for over 50 years in Shanhai and China. It maintains a reputation of being one of, if not the best in Hong Kong. That reputation remains intact with my recent bespoke suit and shirt purchase! They have the a great selection of cloths ranging from the regular to the finest Scabel, Zenga and Loro Piana fabrics. But the magic really starts with the fittings. Every detail that most other tailors might take for granted, is brought up and discussed with you prior to the cloth being cut. For example, the length and width of my Iphone 6 plus was measured to ensure there would be pockets made on both side the inside of the jacket built in that would accommodate it without the bulk showing. Along with measuring all aspects of my body, numerous pictures were taken to capture how I stand etc. so the fabric would just wrap itself around my specific body with the full floating canvas. The details for every fitting are very carefully taken care of to make sure the suit is the best it possibly can be for you. And the results have blown away the results I've gotten from other tailors I've used for bespoke suits. The prefer a natural fit with minimal padding and are always looking to make you look your best. They travel several times a year with the general manager Patrick Chu to various cities in the U.S.A. as well as other countries so if you ever need adjustments in the future, you can get them made when they travel near you! They are more expensive than most other tailors in Hong Kong. But realize, a well made bespoke suit can last 5-10 years and still make you look like a million bucks! I highly recommend WW Chan.
