You have to ignore every shop owner who tries to drag you into their store. Be prepared to just walk past, avoid eye contact and be ignorant. Just for fun I responded to their basic English in my basic French. Funny looks ! Quality is generally poor n the cheap looking stalls , but there are some better boutique shops to be found (more like a mall than a market) selling jewellery and clothes. Samsonite and Patagonia branded Backpacks seem OK quality for around 100RMB. Got offered two ‘under the counter’ Breitling watches for 7000RMB (for both) and they dropped all the way to to 1000RMB before I walked away but the store owner followed me for 50m before giving up. If the store owners were less hawkish I would probably spend more time browsing and spending instead of walking by. I bought what I came for but not an enjoyable shopping experience.

This was fun! You really need to be OK with bargaining (a lot!), but then you'll have a great time. It might be frustrating sometimes that it will take time to understand when you are bargaining for the right price. Sometimes vendors offer you an extra small 'present' or they keep on offering you to buy more - then you are sure you have paid too much. Make sure to walk away a couple of times, and play the game with them

This is a better marketplace in comparison to Beijing Silk Market. One section is for custom tailors. Rows of many shops full of fakes but better quality as they made for local market. Overpriced, so get ready for bargaining. Always offer close to one third of asking price. Beware of the hawkers waiting at the Metro entry as they approach specifically foreigners and accompany you to the shops which they could get a commission. If you know what you are doing, there are bargains. So explore.
