The area
Neighborhood: People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
How to get there
  • People's Square • 2 min walk
  • Dashijie • 8 min walk

Raffles Square

There are a number of these types of malls along and round Nanjing road. They are well stocked with all the brands and goods of all types to keep any shopper happy.
There is also restaurants and coffee ( Starbucks inside and outside.)
The place is well signed.
Only interesting thing was at Charles and Keith they couldn't use my credit card or my Commonwealth cash cards. So they missed a sale. This has only happened once or twice in our numerous trips to China. So some cash is still advisable particularly if you go to the market.

Trusted mall brand from Singapore
Nov 2018 • Family
Raffles City run by CapitaLand Malls Ltd is just a brand that works - for Singaporeans it's a brand that you find familiarity in a foreign city just like how Golden Arches just work for many Westerners who do not know what to eat when they first visit a non-Western country. With this brand comes the association - nothing too exciting, but a minimum standard of mid to high-end is always maintained in terms of the overall ambience and retail mix. A place you'll look forward to visiting because you know it'll always be clean, posh, and certain reliable brands will be there.

That's how it worked for us when we first arrived in Shanghai, with our hotel right opposite, young kids in tow, simply looking for somewhere clean and reliable to rest our tired feet and feed our overtired/ over-excited children. The food court and restaurants on the top floor provided a good enough late evening dinner, the smaller food kiosks and cafes at its basement provided the much needed Singaporean fare and baked goods at Bread talk to sooth the little ones. Starbucks and KFC are right on the ground floor and forms an inviting mall front for both international and local visitors too, especially on an unexpected chilly evening.

Beyond the comfort, the convenience of the location doesn't need more mention but here's a summary:
- lying right above a metro station of three intersecting metro lines
- 100 metres to Nanjing shopping street
- 300 metres to Fuzhou historical eating street
- 500 metres to YunNan street foodie street
- being directly opposite People's Park and Urban Planning museum gives it an open, welcoming feel too
- probably walkable to the Bund, Yuyuan etc. but you need to know where and be prepared to walk long.

It's where the office workers congregate, where the tourists amazes around, where the elderly chat with their companions, where young parents bring their little ones out for a walk, it's where you look for food and shopping and watch how all the dynamics just work.

Nicely kept 7 storey shopping mall is central location, opposite peoples park and near Nanjing raid. Most stores are single brand, well presented and a nice shopping experience. Toilets on most floors.

Usual Mall
Aug 2017 • Solo
This is a typical shopping mall. I wouldn't say that I saw anything special or out of the ordinary. Of course, the size of this shopping mall is impressive, but I don't recommend going out of your way to visit this place. You'll find very high end stores here. The basement level has a food court. I saw very appealing quick bites, but there was no English menu and I had trouble communicating. There's a Carl's Jr. that had western selections.

Why not take a break from the heat and enjoy some world class shopping at Raffles Square? The mall is located close to People's Square and Nanjing Road. It features tons of food options and shops.

Typical modern shopping mall
May 2017 • Family
So a Singapore property developer built a mall in Shanghai and named it after a similarly named mall they owned in Singapore. In terms of retail mix, there is definitely a good assortment of goods in different genres as well as food outlets on every level. Having said that, shopping in China for non-China goods tend to be an expensive affair given the taxes on such products. I might visit the mall if I'm passing by, but it wouldn't be something on my must-do list of things if I'm visiting Shanghai.

If you like shopping…
My wife certainly loves to shop and she was drawn to this place and spent a good amount of time looking at things that she could have looked at right in our city of Beijing. I don’t know why tourists come here when they have the same shops at home. I can understand locals shopping here because of the western labels but seriously foreigners? In any case my wife loved it and I’m glad she was happy.
