We went there during lunch time. Beautiful part of town. Very chic. Nighttime it probably gets very busy and noisy with all the bars. Lots of restaurants and shops to browse.

Xintiandi is a small area of up market restaurants and shops presenting a modern face of China in an old word setting. Created in the shop-house style, this great dining and shipping area has opportunities for all but the fussiest traveller.

This is a very westernized area with western restaurants. It is for local people to hang out. No need to go there if you want to learn or taste traditional Chinese food. All the restaurants offering Chinese cuisine are overpriced.

The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a
carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled
with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area
below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most
fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can
afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and
shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park
provides the area with green space and is also home to

Jiujiu Holiday Hotel is <5 mins walking distance to Xintiandi and no more than 380 RMB for the most expensive rooms. Drop me a private message with your dates if it sounds like what you're looking for.

Accommodation near Xintiandi (9 Replies)
Hi everyone, I will be taking a short course at Xintiandi for about 7 days. Due to tight budget, and need to travel to Xintiandi everyday, I need a walking distance accommodation but nearby hotel are pricey. Am looking at JI Hotel but is fully booked, another choice is Marvel Hotel. My parent will also be travelling with me. Appreciate your suggestion on the hotel, thanks:)

Search Peace hotel's legendary jazz bar to see if you will like. The musicians are in their 70 or 80's. Actually, it's a tourist attraction. The hotel is now called fairmont peace.
